Blue mage is a very ...unique class, in that it's job identity does not match the MMO trinity so it's not allowed in any story content or instances outside of premade groups, as it does not learn spells by leveling but instead by witnessing specific monster abilities and slaying said monster with a chance of that ability "dropping." The reason it's not allowed in matchmaking, besides being level capped at 10 levels below whatever the current expansion is at the time, is that with the right spells the blue mage is hilariously overpowered (or uselessly underpowered) and can completely break the game in ways no game designer would allow players do to outside of ancient MMOs like Ultima Online or the original Everquest.
Hey, given that you’re in the 2.X patch quests, there’s a rite of passage every XIV player needs to undergo:
When you have time (and if you haven’t done it already), head to Uhl’da and take a Blue quest called “The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen”.
I know this is an odd suggestion, it’s probably not going to be what you’re expecting, but there is a reason for it.
(And, tempting as it may be, DO NOT skip the dialogue/cutscenes if you start down this path)
(PS. Blue Mage is kinda an oddball in that it’s a ‘limited job’. It’s WAY more powerful than any other class, and is thus barred from doing MSQ stuff)

As you guessed, the arrival of your new friend Yugiri did in fact coincide with the addition of a new class and job. I'll leave it to you to figure out what and where.
Unfortunate that nobody helped you with Ramuh's stun mechanic - someone else needs to run over to you when they're targeted with a lightning AOE. You'll take damage, but the shock also removes your stun.
Combo of old fight design philosophy and having so many sprouts. Many of the old fights don't communicate mechanic intentions all that well. It's only recently that the devs went back to visually change certain things to be in line with current design philosophy. But mechanically, they haven't changed much if at all (Thornmarch is the one exception I can think of, as it's completely different from it's original inception). For example, the last boss of Syrcus Tower has a stack marker. Mechanically it's the same, it just used to look different, not communicating at all that it's meant to be stack. Luckily there were usually enough veterans to prevent unnecessary deaths when it was the old marker. Even now, I still see the occasional sprout run away with the stack marker, not understanding it's a stack. I'm sure there are "veteran" sprouts that probably never learned certain mechanics properly and when they do roulettes, they don't help despite being "experienced".
Don't be afraid to pause and take stock of the situation. In fact, many fights have debuffs that require reading its description to get an idea of what you should do. You can mouse over the debuff and read the tooltip, or you can browse through your combat log and click on various buffs and debuffs to read said descriptions when you have more leisure time. Only problem is that the combat log can be annoying to read through since it logs every instance of damage, buff, debuff, etc. I've never used them as myself, but I believe parsers (aka meters) can make the combat log more readable. Just keep in mind that they technically violate TOS, but they have no way of checking, as all the software should do is read the text files that the game saves to your computer anyways.
Extreme is among the "hard content" if the game. Unlike others type of hard content, it is doable by a roulette, but only mentors have that roulette. Wait times can be really long due to that and you may get people that immediately leave once it pop. For hard content like that, it's better to do it in party finder or unsync it by coming with a stronger player or coming back later when your item level is higher.
That kind of content can take dozens of attempts or more to clear depending on the fight, it's pretty hard but fun if you are in that kind of thing.

For a Physical DPS, I suggest Dragoon, but after the Dawntrail Release you should try out the new Monk!
For Tank, after you reach Heavensward, try out Dark Knight!
Will definitely try them out :) We haven't heard of any changes in Dawntrail, we try to go in blind also (wherever possible).
