Always good to see the the love Fn2 deserve !!! They tick so many boxes ✅ Affordable, super reliable, practical , looks modern and really fun to drive.
Yeah they are very different to other cars, you either love them or hate them. For example in the morning they will rev so high for the warm up phase that when you shift you don't even have to apply revs. Also the throttle is a little off and on so you can jump a bit in lower gears but i love it.
How's it as a daily? Road noise when just cruising on the highway? I've driven an ep2 and thought that the car was just too noisy. I wonder if the fn2 has better sound insulation with the extra weight and how's the suspension, is it too stiff like other people are saying? I used to own a ek4 with stiff coilovers and a loud exhaust, a very fun weekend car but as my only car that I drive daily all year round? It was just too much, I want a sporty car, that's modern, has a/c, is a practical and usable daily and also can handle spirited driving and maybe even the occasional track day. I feel like the fn2 could be a solid contender and the prices for them are still reasonable, unlike ek9/ep3 prices which are through the roof.
I test drove one of these back when I was in the market for a fun little Honda. Really enjoyed the drive and the creature comforts it had. I ended up getting a DC5 instead because of the “raw” feel that they have. If I didn’t have my CU2 to daily drive though I would have gone with the FN2 over the DC5.
Great review!!! I got my Championship White Edition for 3 years now, and the car is amazing 😍. It’s my dream car and I can’t see myself without it. At this point the perception of the car has changed and people do realize the enormous potential and versatility of the FN2. The car is beautiful and got an unique style, great chassis and flawless engine. Love it ❤️
The same here bro, mine is deep bronze pearl, have it more than 3 years and and I love it,everyday puts a smile on the face 🙂 it's super reliable, never had a car who would survive 3 years without a problems
At the time it was way ahead of itself in terms of asthetics and design. I remember when the car was released I couldn't get my head around the strange look. Now some 15 years later it sits comfortably among modern cars and is getting the appreciation it deserved, timeless design. Who cares if it only had 1bhp more than it's predecessor - it's still basically the same great engine- which I might add isn't hard to extract more power from if u desire. The interior and all round general design Honda provided was a great package above and beyond its predecessor. The guy hits the nail on the head - a more refined version.
I can't say I've seen any for $10k recently but you really need to spend closer to $20k to get a super clean low k example. I do like the styling of this model to be honest. The FN2 and EP3 are the best value Type R Civics. Anything prior or after is double the money.
I bought one brand new back in 2011 I think it was the last red one in Nsw. I still have it sitting in the garage most of the time. It currently has 34k.
Fn2 love world wide.... Please check out my content... FN2 civics are thrashing the boosted cars.. We can etune your Fn2.. If u need a reliable fast tune.. ✌️
Fn2 is such a under rated car a few mods and your set to go with a brilliant engine and a timeless design still looks modern today in 2022 had mine coming on 3 years now and have 0 plans to get rid of it future classic 💯
I had a lightly modified fn2r for about 6 months loved the noise it made and the way it felt planted in corners but could also feel how much weight it carried, so I moved it on and got an ep3r as I wanted something more fun, raw and a bit more old school, nonetheless the fn2 is a great little hot hatch and very affordable can pick one up in the uk for around £3k-£6k mugen or champ whites demand a bit more
I honestly love this cars even over older vtecs even standard civic 1.4 the inside and the layout is well beyond its years its more comfortable than any of the other vtecs for me it's my fav
Finally, a good review about the FN2. Was debating about the EP3 & FN2 before i got my FK2R and i think i regret going for the EP3R instead of the FN2R. Atleast these boys don't rust while you stand next to it.
If you've never driven an FN2 trust me it drives nothing like the EP3. The EP3 is lighter, feels sharper and faster and also more involving even at slower speeds.
This week I saw a video from JDM Master and he said this car is made on Honda Jazz/Fit chassis. According to Best Motoring FN2 does 1:13 on Tsukuba. About 3 seconds slower than a Prelude. Prelude is underrated . Fn2 is not so overrated like most Civics but still very expensive just because is Type R. Anyway I have to admit this modified car in the video is impressive
The FN2 is not 3 seconds slower than the Prelude on Tsukuba. As its a relatively short track that time difference would be ludicrous, the listed time is 1'12.22 for FN2 and 1'11.25 for the Prelude Type S, which has 20 more hp and is around the same weight. These times were done years apart as well, to get a true measure you'd have to compare them on the same day with equally skilled drivers. Not sure what you mean by Civics being overrated relative to the Prelude, but the FN2 is almost criminally underrated even within the Honda community. I don't know where you are from, but the FN2 as well as the DC2R were both cheaper than the Prelude in Australia.
It took some time for me to come around, but I like the way they look. It's futuristic in that it's simple, but still at the cutting edge. It dresses the sharp lights with the overall egg shape nicely
I have to say that the 140hp version is insanely fun too, this car gets its fun from the chassis, steering and revving that feels like kicking a lion. It's my first car and I have never been in love with something this much. I want to give it a stage 4 tuning and a new exhaust system in some years, even tho german tuning laws are a pain in the arsch, instead of grabbing something new. Hyped for it already.
the review from top gear just ruin all the first impression for people who want to buy this FN2.... I think FN2 is very good from outlook and handling .... I dun think most driver will take it to track to find the different of the rear suspension.... I love this review... and i love FN2
jeremy clarkson is known for being Biased for his reviews !!! He was saying how ep3 is so great while fn2 is not then it turns out fn2 was faster than their ep3 in the top gear track !!! Not to mention Fn2 won the hot hatch of the year in their magazine which was rated by stig.
FK2 Type R, Megane RS Trophy R and a lot of other hot hatchs got the same rear suspension set up. With the LSD this works really well on the FN2. The biggest advantage of the independent rear suspension is that makes the car more comfortable.
The Stig reviewed it and said it was an absolute gem, so I bought one. Fucking awesome car. Still have and probably won't ever sell it. It's too fun to dick about in. Jeremy is potato. Have the Champion White unicorn.
I don't think it's fair reflection if you've swapped out the bottom end from K20 to K24. The stock Fn2 is abit slow but once you do some minor breathing mods, headers and exhaust, the car performs alot better. Nevertheless, pretty decent review.
The only people I've heard complaining about this car have never owned one. Is there an owner who doesn't like it? I've had mine pretty much stock for 5+ years and love it more and more.
I had 6 accidents on my 2009 fn2 well my insurance fix it after all that messy accidents I still like my fn2.The steering wheel is so precise bang on😊😊😊😊.

I wanna get one in a couple years, as I nor have my license neither enough money yet, but my friend's parents own a regular FN2 1.8 VTEC and that thing is already super fun to be driven in, and probably even more fun to drive. I really appreciate you for making this video, and I'm sure other FN2 lovers also do! Keep up the great work! Edit: I even know someone from Canada who wants to import an FN2 there, I'm kinda lucky to be able to get one easily since I'm from Germany and we have a bunch of them here for around 10-15k, but that case really shows me how people all around the world love the FN2
My dad bought one of these back a few years ago 2011 championship white with the factory lsd. Paid 10k for it because it wasnt in the best shape cosmetically despite the low ks. Bargain of the century I reckon. I think if you look at the car in a vaccum its great, it just doesnt stand up to the titans like the dc2 or ek9 honda came up with in the 90s.
