Gday, awesome progress, the soda blaster certainly does a great good, that’s a brilliant setup, always look forward to your videos mate thank you, Matty
I’m rebuilding my carbs on a xs1100 Yamaha ,and I’m truly impressed with your video ! I’ve watched about every video on utube for carb rebuilding and your the only person who has stripped his carbs down completely !! No one else did . Your cleaning of the carbs was very thorough, well done ! One thing to make your video PERFECT would have been close ups of the parts as your tore them down …. You make me a fan , good to see a REAL professional.
Do both the xj750 and xj650 carburetor's have the metal plate that fits over the jets? It is located underneath the diaphragm. My xj750 does not have that plate and I am wondering if I need to try and locate 4 of them.
Hi Tim, no that plate is not on all versions. Take a good look at the hole where the hold down bolt goes on yours. If it’s blank with no thread then your bike didn’t have the plates. If threaded id assume it originally had the plates… my 750 didn’t have the plates but early 650 did, not sure what they do
Hi Nathan, I got some parts in Australia from my local Yamaha dealer, the rest was online on ebay and other places. Its just a matter of searching the globe to find what you need. Its not easy but everything is out there, sometimes a premium needs to be paid too for the rare stuff if you want new parts like I did.
@@Mezzmoengineering yeah cool, thanks. I’ll have a hunt around and see what I can find. Thanks for the vid. I’ve got no idea what I’m doing but I’m feeling like I can at least give it a crack now.
Theres only one place i trust to do this job right in Mezzmo Engineering. He is a gifted and brilliant mechanic and restorer. I feel honored to be able to learn from him. What year bike is this XJ?
They are difficult to get out but I used some new bit ends that fit the screw heads properly and just applied a good amount of pressure. It you support the shaft carefully from the other side giving the screw head a tap with a pin punch also helps.
Hi mate, possibly not. You need to adjust with them as per the video as the most important thing is the closing position rather than where it is fully open
Hi mate, my compressor is only 8cfm. Works but is a bit small for the blaster as not enough supply to run it continuous. Ideally needs to be more like a 14cfm….
Good day. I just got me Xj 650 Seca R '82 and don't know what causing gasoline to constantly leak from carbs in airlifter chamber. Bike is running well, but when is off, gasoline leaks no matter in what position peacock is. Any help, please, will be greatly appreciated. Previous owner told me that he redone carbs ,but unfortunately not good ,obviously! My whole garage stinks as pump station. Thank you,Des
Hi mate, sounds to me like the fuel valves (needles) inside your carbies are leaking. This will cause that issue. These shut off fuel once the float is at the right level.
Great videos, I am about to remove my carbs off from my XJ650. I purchased almost all the replacements as you have shown, thanks for that . I have also bought an ultrasonic cleaner and I am not sure what stuff to use to clean the carbs. I have seen videos of people using a mixture of water, dishwasher liquid and vinegar. Some people says vinegar would damage the alluminium from the carbs... what mixture of liquids did you use in the ultrasonic cleaner? How many degees did you set them on? Is it also possible to clean the needles? I am afraid it could damage the plastic and rubber stuff. Many thanks and greatings from Spain Marcos
Hi Mate, I used hot water as I'd blasted them with baking soda before that and the water dissolve it all. The needles I cleaned using 1500 wet and dry. I completely removed all carby parts before cleaning so there was no rubber. I think its best to ultrasonic clean individual parts and nothing that's assembled still.
Awesome content Mate , would be cool if you Put a few on the barby and film the lunch breaks for sentimental DUNDY FANS LIKE MESELF. SORRY IF THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE MATE.
Excellent commentary and vid! xj650 carby on the bench now... here we go. thx for the motivator.
Thanks mate

Thanks Richard, more builds coming so I'll continue to build the channel
Love watching this stuff, all the things I'm too shit scared to do. Gets the want to do stuff juices flowing
Thanks mate. If this motivates you to get in your shed then I've achieved my goal...

I'm assuming that this process would be the same for the xj1100?
Correct, pretty much the same for all carbies of this tyoe
I’m about to tackle this on my XJ. Any recommendations on places in Aus to get all the gaskets and bits? Or just go eBay?

Thanks mate, its 1981. XJ650 went from 1981-1983.
Nice work.
hi how did you remove the butter fly screws as they have lock tight on. this is best vid out there

When you hold the carb up should all the floats hang at the same level

@@Mezzmoengineering Thank you! So my 6.7 is gonna just about do the job. But im guessing ill be stopping every now and again for the tank to fill.

What model ultrasonic cleaner is that ?
Hi Mate, not sure as I borrowed it from a friend. I believe it was just from Ebay.

Not a bad idea, I regularly stop for a barby so easy to add...
How do I get to the part where you are at the beginning of the video??
Hi mate, not sure what you mean? Part 1 is the beginning of the bike build and carbies are here
