- Welcome to part 12 of this series covering the restoration progress on the Chesterfield Canal.
In the last few episodes we've been building up to the installation of the Trans Pennine Trail bridge over the canal at Staveley. After a false start the previous week, we finally got to see the new bridge lifted into place. This was originally the Great Central Railway between Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester and London. Now the Trans Pennine Trail.
The installation of the bridge allow the canal to be restored for the next section through the Bellhouse Basin and onto the Staveley Puddlebank.
The bridge is 38m long and weighs 40 tonnes and is the first phase of the canals involvement in the Staveley Town Deal.

Bridge looks great, well done to all who was involved.
I really appreciate what you 2 do to keep us up to date and for you personally to give me information on how the railways of your area have developed and what they are like now. Caroline
You're welcome Caroline. It's great to document the history 👍😃
Thanks.
This was brilliant to watch well done. It felt as a viewer we were standing there watching. Inspiring project and really good to see good news.
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it.
Very nicely done. Great to see it in these early stages of its life 👍
👍cheers Mark
It looks really good! Really enjoying the progress on this restoration. Great to get to walk over it as soon as it was fixed too.
It's so exciting to see things happening isn't it. It was such a pleasure to walk over.
thanks..I'm glad you got to walk over and get behind the barriers. You've faithfully recorded this project so far. Deserved
Cheers 👍😃.
I wasn't expecting that. Was a real treat.
So cool....
Thanks Paul, excellent update. This project is going from strength to strength. Looking forward to seeing the next stage progress 😊👍
Cheers. Me too. It's great to see progress.
Nice video thank you. I meant to come down and film but wasn't well on the day. Glad you got the event covered.
Hope you're feeling better
Pretty sweet! It looks great, and having a canal pass under it will put the proverbial icing on the cake. Thanks, Paul!
It looks a lot better in person than in the drawings 😊
So glad to see it come together.
Excellent, so glad it's painted and not just rust like a lot of new structures
Great that they let you have a walk over it
The red looks fantastic Russ. Looks even better close up. Great choice of colour.
AWESOME!!!!! Onto the Puddle Banks next 😊
Yep :)
Thanks Paul really enjoyed that…..clay move….lock build and Bellhouse lane bridge build….plus archeological dig…an enormous project what with the bridge and all the services to alter….a expensive section to complete
The next few years are going to be so exciting
Get you Paul in your hard hat & high viz jacket! What a proud moment it is for you & all the volunteers & others that have supported the project. The beautiful bridge is in place. Fab drone footage Paul, I'm glad it fits! 😅 & you got to walk over it one of the first. Awesome. ❤❤❤👍
Thanks very much Carol.
It was great to witness it all. The canal trust have been so welcoming
Hard to believe but the site of that bridge was once a main line railway with express trains running from Sheffield to London. The original route of the Master Cutler.
Walked round that area several times recently. It's amazing what the canal society are achieving. Hope to see it finished in my lifetime.
Great stuff isn't it. Lots of work to do, but it's going on the right direction. 🙂👍
Never seen so many youtubers filming a new bridge 😂😂 great achievement, looks.great

Cheers for the shout outs :)
Another great video Paul, I wonder if it’ll open tomorrow

To drive up for the open day tomorrow, my wife definitely wouldn’t appreciate it though 😂

Looks great doesn't it. Felt so much bigger
If Gordo was there, he probably would have 'christened' the bridge - lol - "Ruff... no doggy smells on the posts, I'll soon remedy that, woof.. arf..".
:D hahaha well that's Monday's plan ;)
Great that you and Steve both got to go over the bridge together. Watch both your channels with interest. caroline
Thanks Caroline. It was a real privilege
Thanks Paul - another brill video.
I wonder how long it’ll be before your stood on the bridge filming water under it.
I can't wait for that day 😃
I was particularly taken by the fact a multi-million pound lump of precision engineering was guided into place by a couple of big lads and some blue rope. 😂
Coming along great, though. 🙂👍
😄 sometimes it's the simplest things in life.
I actually raised a smile at that whilst it was happening.
❤💪
