- just finished rereading oots and dovewing is such a dear character to me. she was subject to so much at a young age and the way dovewings silence explore her depression and PTSD following the great battle means a lot to me. the fandom only seems to focus on her relationships with ivypool and tigerheart and ignores a lot of what makes her such an interesting character which is why i wanted to make this pmv.
also sidenote i haven’t done any pmvs/animations in over 2 years but i’m back now. hi. this is the longest project i’ve ever done, it took about 3 weeks.
TW: animal injury/death, mild flashing sequences at 0:51-1:09 and 1:52-2:06
0:08-0:25: dovepaw, very newly apprenticed, finds out about the prophecy. she’s initially excited about her powers and the special treatment by her mentor, lionblaze
0:25-0:34: the journey to dam. what starts off as a fun adventure with her new friends turns dark as they find the beavers
0:35-0:43: dovepaw watches as rippletail as he slowly bleeds to death from his wounds from the beavers.
0:44-0:51: the journey back to thunderclan. dovepaw is initially in shock, but starts to grow more upset and resentful. she’s returns to thunderclan, and her mother, whitewing, tries to comfort her even though she doesn’t understand what’s happened to her daughter.
0:52-1:00: dovepaw is training with lionblaze, still stressed and nervous from the journey. during battle training, she has a flashback to rippletail’s death.
1:01-1:04: dovewing journeys to the mountains and watches as swoop is carried away and killed by an eagle. she feels responsible for her death.
1:05-1:09: dovewing returns from the mountains, but is still haunted by swoops death. the prophecy feels oppressive, like she can’t live up to these expectations.
1:10-1:17: hollyleaf returns, and the normally stoic and uncaring lionblaze and jayfeather reunite with their sister. dovewing suddenly realizes they never actually cared about her, just the prophecy.
1:18-1:34: dovewings relationship to her sister, ivypool, has completed dissolved. she can only watch as ivypool continues to train in the dark forest, unable to do anything to stop her.
1:35-1:38: life continues on in thunderclan, but dovewing has no attachment to any of it. she’s isolated and depressed, unable to participate in clan life.
1:38-1:42: dovewing is still haunted by the deaths of rippletail and swoop, unable to move on.
1:43-1:51 the battle with the dark forest has come, and afterwards, dovewing loses her powers.
1:52-2:04: dovewing feels she’s let everyone down- starclan, lionblaze, hollyleaf, her entire clan. she remembers being an idealistic kit when she first learned about the prophecy, and how it’s now ruined her life.
2:05-2:10: disconnected from her clan and her family, dovewing decides to leave to join shadowclan. there’s nothing left in thunderclan for her now, because of the prophecy

These are the type of posts about Dove that get my head screwed back on rather than rotting in the fandom hate for her. This was her lore laid out and not misconstrued so she looks like a monster. She deserved much more recognition for being so young and brought up into a prophecy.. any kid would not do well.
This was beautiful. The storytelling communicated the buildup of stress and hurt so well. My heart broke at the shot of Whitewing hugging Dovepaw because it's such a clear reminder that during all of the prophecy drama, Dovepaw was just a kid. You had such strong visuals, like at 1:51. This is truly a special PMV. Thank you for creating and sharing this!!

Honestly, it's such a breath of fresh air to see Dovewing's character focused solely on herself rather than on her sister or lover. Dovewing is also such a special character because as a child, she was one of the first ones to whom I truly began to relate when reading the books. Dovewing Silence was such a great book that it had to be placed in the S tier for me. I can relate to dovewing a lot because I'm a whiner and complainer a lot, It's too bad that people only see Dovewing in this way; it makes it seem like she doesn't have a reason to be upset or isn't allowed to be upset, and it hurts a lot and is too personal. When people first started describing Dovewing in this way, I quickly read the books until I reached the point where she begins to exist. I completely understand why Dovewing left, and she had every right to do so. It just confuses me how people are making her out to be a bad person for choosing her own happiness over a clan that doesn't even treat her fairly. I myself live in a toxic home, which is something that brings me absolutely no joy.
I'm delighted I'm seeing so many more people love her; it might be because they're getting older and maybe even starting to relate to her, but who knows, haha. You did her such honor.
But in all seriousness, your beautiful PMV and excellent song selection definitely gave me the motivation I needed to keep working on own projects.
I’m the same way. For a long time I hated Dovewing because I hadn’t gotten to OOTS yet and wanted to fit in with everyone else. But reading the arc, I’ve come to love Dovewing and not understand all the hate she gets.
I really like Dovewing but I I hate Tigerstar with a passion (yes, I do really love Bumblestripe, I liked him since the moment he was introduced as a kit and still do, and no, I don’t like Ashfur or any other character the fandom likes to compare with Bumblestripe) so any time I see someone tune in on DoveTiger I immediately want to hit the dislike button, which I refrain from doing so each time because the art is awesome 😂 I’m so glad this was JUST Dovewing 😌
I’ve always leaned more to liking Ivypool because personally I related to her heavily, flaws and all, being jealous of my sister who was seen as better, etc and I never really cared for Dovewing all that much but I never disliked her. This PMV really gives me a whole new perspective on her character honestly. So much was expected of Dovewing from such a young age and she was treated so special until her powers were gone then she was just a regular cat and was treated as such. She honestly went through so much and she’s heavily misunderstood and overly hated by the fandom and it’s really sad tbh. Dovewing honestly deserves better :/ At least she’s happier in Shadow clan now.
Dove paw was the “it’ll get better when I’m older” mentality a lot of kids and teens like I was latched onto. You’ve made something so touching and close to that, and while I’ve seen a lot of talented artist none of them have made me feel the way I did the first time I read out dovepaws life. Dove paw is this lonely used character and sadly the authors almost seemed too scared to say anything that us the readers perceived. We know dove wing felt set aside when hollyleaf came back because a lot of us at that time felt her story in our lives. Her dying relationship with her sister because of her gaining attention and powers she didn’t and as far as I can tell, never wanted because feeling unwanted even with the attention you got is a huge experience in my and the younger generations. You tell such a story in the way you draw hers, it’s so beautiful and painful and I can’t thank you enough for sharing this. I used to be a little bit of both of Ivy paw and dove paw when I was younger. You’ve reminded me how far I’ve come and I haven’t felt that way about myself in a very long time. Your art work feels so raw and good and it makes this story and song feel like they were made for eachother. this is absolutely gorgeous!! dovewing was a character i never paid too much attention to as a kid, but coming back to her and all of the fandom pieces made about her reveals an unintentional depth to her character. she’s such a social and friendly character, but is an outsider in basically every environment she finds herself in which creates almost a profound loneliness with her. that was captured perfectly in this pmv

This is absolutely stunning, and just proves to me how much I related to Dovewing, and how she was shit on by the fandom and her Clan. No one truly cared for her (except her parents and SOMETIMES Ivypool), they just liked the idea of her. I'm glad she's in a place where she's loved and appreciated now.
IM IN LOVE oh my god. Dovewing is such such such a tragic character. this song i SO DOVEWING CODED. "my brother says he hates me and satan is his master" for Ivypool?? GOD. she didnt want any of this. She just wanted to grow up. The fact she was forced into this role, only for her son Shadowsight to also deal with SO MUCH GRIEF at the hands of a prophecy?? WAILS
DOVEWING IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED CHARACTER AND IT'S SUCH A SHAME HOW PEOPLE GLOSS OVER EVERYTHING SHE WENT THROUGH AND JUST GO 'Oh she's so boring/she has no flaws'
This pmv is actually great, it really shows everything she had to endure and honestly she was right in leaving ThunderClan. Dovewing deserved better. Both writing wise, character wise and from the fandom. Good job with this.
I also recently reread oots and dovewing is such a heartbreaking, wonderful character. It makes me sad that she was so hated in the fandom, because I think a lot of us missed the point of her character. She was overwhelmingly pressured to be perfect and grown up from the moment she was apprenticed and as an eldest daughter I really related to her struggles.
not only was she burdened with a prophecy with nobody understanding in her life (and anyone that tried to be there for her simply couldn't understand) but she watched the prophecy take away her relationships. she was able to hear every bit of swoop's death because of her power, and it was so traumatic that she lost her abilities for a while. Dovewing was constantly expected to solve everyone else's problems and be there for everyone, all while being simultaneously attacked for it.
ive been seeing more of a surge in positive dovewing content recently and im so glad to see it. that being said, i dont think ive seen a dovewing pmv that captures her feelings and translates them as well as this one did. you can practically feel the raw emotion in every frame, and im so glad this was in my recommended. can't wait to see more from you :)

I love the part where dovewing returns home and her mom hugs her literally so well done.. the way she feels jealous when holly returns like this is literally so great!!!! you did so well!!! literally lowkey inspiring me to sit my ass down and animate something myself I love this

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUS....the colours are so warm and comforting but the song gives it such a heaviness, similar to what dovewing goes through. it's also interesting to see how her expression remains downturned for most of the pmv, appearing as sort of 'emotionless' but the song gives away her true emotions and feelings. i'm obsessed with this and will be coming back to watch it every day
Dovewing means so much to me, her suffering is widely misunderstood and this highlights her pain and fear so well,, god gorgeous art, perfect song.

This is so lovely and sad. I think you really capture the sense of trauma, and Dove's childhood being ripped from her. She's so profoundly lonely, and this really encapsulates the way the prophecy dominated her life.

The books with Dovewing in them aren't even translated yet in my first language, but this animatic made me feel for her so hard... I had to go outside and walk it out like a wery complicated and nuanced thought, the combination of the song and your wisuals and storytelling is just so strong

Dove and Ivy's eyes changing from blue when they were kits to a different color later is a very nice detail. Much more realistic to real cats

i remember despising Dovewing when i was younger because i was upset on behalf of Ivypool and Hollyleaf. I hated her personality, her relationship with Tigerheart, all of it. now that i'm older, i have no idea what i was on. she's awesome

Woah, this is just incredible! I love the poignant, earnest scrapbook-y atmosphere to this, I think it really enhances the feeling of Dovewing being a kid stuck in her own head to escape everything stressing her out in the real world. I'm so glad people are giving her the attention and stunning fan stuff she deserves, away from Tigerheart and Ivypool.

I simply cannot describe how much this made me love Dovewing. I love the chosen song and how she is so small compared to everyone else, showing how truly young she was when everything started going down. I never hated her by any means, but I sort of overlooked her. She practically couldn’t have any sort of relationship with her sister, so caught up in the prophecy, and she’s seen as a hollyleaf replacement since the very moment she was born, a cat to continue on the prophecy and do the bidding of a bunch of dead cats. I enjoy the designs as well, with their general fur shapes being the same and it’s very easy to tell they are siblings. It’s so beautifully executed

WOWWW I ADORED THIS!!! The soft coloring with moving lineart and lyrics mixed with entirely black and white scenes were absolutely perfect. Dovewing is such a wonderful character and this captures all of her emotions and hardships. Made me feel so sad… especially how small she is at the start. I think this might be my new favorite warrior cats video :]
Just want to say how much I love all these designs. Dovewing's is just lovely, simple and nice, yellow eye Dovewing is massively underrated. Lionblaze is very blocky, large, intimidating, fitting! Tigerheart is only in a few shots but I love his design too, his colours contrast each other nicely. All the characters with stripes are really pretty as well, you do stripes in a very appealing way.
ALSO THE SHOTS WITH THE DAM AND THE BEAVERS? Extremely unsettling, really demonstrates how Dovepaw probably felt confronting them
dovewing is one of my favorite characters and this is the best video about her i've ever seen!! you capture her story and character so well! i agree that people focus too much on her relationship with ivypool; there's so much more to her character than that. i think this is the first time i've seen someone depict her anxiety about not only having to fulfill a prophecy but also having to replace hollyleaf in a way, which is one of the more interesting aspects of her character imo. your style is beautiful, the backgrounds are fantastic, the song fits perfectly, i just love this so much!! i also make pmvs occasionally and this is really inspiring to me, thank you for sharing this amazing video.
Wow! your animation is very good! and she portrays it well in a way that the story is understood only by observation. The song fits very well with Dovewing's life, especially Ivypool's part that says “and Satan is her master”, it fits well with Hawkfrost.

This is really beautiful! I've never read her book(s) and know the story just from animations and the wiki and stuff. I think I have never seen her like this, so miserable and sad, and I didn't know she had ptsd or depression, that was never the focus. I also never realized how young she was when all of that prophecy and beaver drama began, poor thing. Now I can understand why people actually like her and can relate to her. In most maps and pmv's she was like a little "special princess", more like that girl in school that's super popular and loved by everyone but actually it's the biggest bitch of them all.

I have always loved dovewing, she’s one of my faves for sure.I like how this pmv shows how truly alone she was feeling. Omg one of, if not, the best pmv I’ve seen all year. I haven’t read the books in year and just had my own interpretation of Dovewing based on what other people have said about her, someone who is far less interesting than ivypool and is someone quite forgettable. But you definitely just opened up the depth of her character to me and I now see her as someone who is far more complicated than they appear to be. Not just that, but your style is so soft and simple, reminding me of nostalgic kids book. Love how the lyrics look like cut up words from a book! You are amazing and this pmv is amazing
