Loved Trooper. Saw them in Hanover, Ontario in 1980 or so. What a great concert. As for this song: a beautiful, melodious description of insecurity in love. Gorgeous.
This was the best song to dance with my baby son when he was 10 months old, now he's 19 yrs old and I can't carry him in my arms to dance. I don't know where the time has gone but when I hear this song all my memories come flooding back of when he was a baby, such happy times 🤗
Great song from my late teen years. I listened to it tonight while sitting in my pickup with the snow gently falling. I felt a great wave of sadness come over me....for what might have been with a sweet girl I let slip away at the time.
Born and raised in Canada but now I live in the US....whenever I hear these songs, my mind drifts back to the wonderful days and nights of living in greater Toronto and visiting my relatives in Montreal. God, I'm so homesick!!!!
I was born in the US and moved to Canada in 1978 at the age of 14. I couldn't believe some of the great music from bands I had never heard of. Trooper and April Wine were my favorites. This album and Thick as Thieves are outstanding.
Emily J Blunt ...They r very underrated. Its sad with so many Great/Brilliant songs they didn't make it big across the border. Maybe they didn't have the right Promotors/Managers at their Peak to make them North American Big.Its safe to say that We can pretty much turn on any radio station across Canada that has played a Trooper song and that's a Feat In Its Self. With that being said I'm proud they r Canadian and so am I....
This is my favourite Trooper song too and one of my all time favourites. Canada has had a vast amount of musical talent considering how small our population is.
Aww.. So sorry to hear that and she is in heaven looking down on you as I lost my baby sweetheart of 30 years to cancer and this song makes me really think about how much I miss her as you do your sweetheart. 😪💞
when this song came out, i was living in Sawlog Bay Penetanguishine Ontario Canada, a girl not far from me, was named Janine, i asked her out but she said no, she was beautiful, and broke my heart lol, i still listen to this song all the time because its a great song, and because of her
I was named after this song... My parents thought it said Shaneen rather than Janine.... Lucky Shaneen is still Irish.... However, Super Cool to be named after a Trooper Song... I swear my parents were not Hippies 🤣😅
I caught on practicing this rock song 🎵 from jukebox requests then went home writing all the songs i kearned by listening to my own voice instead of the original name band members.
@@marsbar2020 You might enjoy the Daryl McLean's Beach Party radio show on Friday and Saturday nights. 1580 CKDK and 92.9 The Grand This song is on Daryl's playlist. Ppl call in to hear it (& other Canuck rock greats)
Last of The Gypsies is probably my favourite Album from this Stack of pure talent called Trooper Unfortunately I never even heard this song or 3 dressed up as a 9 until about a year ago when a local radio station drastically changed their Play List..Q104 Dryden On.......One of my older friends said this came out when he was in High school.. Creed and Bands like that were coming out when I was in High school but we preferred Trooper,Dire Straits and stuff at the time.. Kinda worked out good because Creed, Pear Jam,STP and what ever else is kinda new to me now and I love it. New Music is Garbage.... My 8yr old loves this and Iron Maiden. Go Figure!!!
There's a multitude of great, and good, tunes out there in all types of music. I think this tune is up there with the great. Go back to it every once in awhile, love it
I got jumped by 3 guys that year on the way home from school , I got the boots , just for talking to a guys sister ,,,,,awwww to be young again , every time I hear this tune I remember the beating like it was yesterday ,,,,thanks for sharing
This song has such a haunting beautiful melody but does anyone know it is about depression , or bipolar and manic depression or a whole host of other mental illnesses? It is a well done, well sung beauty of a song. So touching and sweet at the same time.
Wow really? Didn't know these facts but still the same it is a memory I have of the song that just puts me in so many great places in my life growing up in Northern Ontario....with of course good friends and good moments....
Overall, "Janine" portrays a story of emotional distance and the struggle to connect with someone who appears disconnected and aloof. The narrator's persistence in reaching out and offering support demonstrates his unwavering dedication and love for Janine, promising to be her anchor in a confusing and difficult world.
Funny story, I shared an office w a friend named Shaneen. We were always both responding to people saying either of our names cause they’re so close. I finally asked one time, how’d she got her name, she said it was from this song Janine that her mom heard wrong and thought sounded like Shaneen. I laughed, I’m named after that same song! And we both listened to it for the first time together and laughed. I can see how her mom heard Shaneen too. ♥️
Of all the great canadiens rock bands from the sixties to the present time trooper was always a great band who always had wonderful songs, I was lucky enough to be able to see them down here in south Florida years ago and they were fantastic!!
1970..19 yrs old. Having a sit down with my girlfriend. Just found out she's pregnant. What do we do? Oh, the grandiose ideas but nothing practical. Face the music, in every way. Painful...very painful but after 4 yrs in different cities, different U's, we both eventually moved on. Thanks Trooper. It's one part of life that was as painful as much as I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Just checked the old record collection and sure enough ...I still have a pristine copy of Flying Colors...gonna go and fire up the record player and give it a spin...cd's r nice but nothing beats the hiss and pop of a vinyl record...80's forever...lol
Trooper was ubiquitous in the last half of the '70's when the scourge of disco was upon us. Ra McGuire's vocals soared through my teens. It's difficult to beat the combination of McGuire and Smith. I hope they're both doing well today.
I was 14 years old when this song came out , The was a Derry Qween in Scarbough my older brother would bring me , this song was playing on his car radio 10.50 CHUM I believe ,when we pulled into the parking lot there was a women yelling at a guy , then she started to rip his hair out I could see the hair in the air , my brother was laughing his head off , I remember my brother looking at me and saying ," I bet he's wishing he should have stayed single ,,,,awwwww memories 💔
I was told a group called Rhodes & Curry did Back Up Vocals for this and I have to say the most Hauntingly Beautiful Effect has stayed with me since the very first time I ever heard this Tune! Awesome!
Saw them for free at Clear Lake Manitoba this past weekend. Great band and one of their songs had piano music that sounded like it was Queen or maybe Mozart.
I'm 72 years old and I love love this song
