Hope you enjoyed this one, I sure did. Please like the video and write me a comment, I read (and try to respond to) every one of them. Also, please consider sharing this video on your social media streams, it sure helps out the channel a ton and I'd greatly appreciate it. Check out the video description for a link to the other version of this stand I made, that one turned out cool as well. Also in the description, you'll find the link to download the stencil if you'd like to try this project for yourself. On another note, you may have noticed that I never put in the hand-holds into the guitar stand that were in the original design. Once I got to that point, I had a change of heart and decided against adding them. However, it would be easy enough to put them into your version if you'd like to. Simply drill out the ends with a forstner bit and then connect them using a jigsaw or scrollsaw. Round over the edges on the router table and there ya go.
Hah, thanks Orv! It's a lame joke, don't worry... you didn't miss anything. One of Brian Ferry's best songs was entitled "Let's Stick Together". See?... lame. lol
Theres not much that feels better than to give someone a gift like this that you have made with your own hands from something that would otherwise be discarded. I love doing this for family gifts
Thank you for your awesome video! It was great to be able to follow as you showed every step from start to finish and without loud music through the video. Love your sense of humor and the the little outtakes at the end ☺. Even though there isn't a free pattern, there isn't a need for one, as we will just follow your video. We will be making one for our 39 yr old who plays guitar! He will definitely love this stand!! Thanks again for sharing, it's Beautiful. Donna
Thank you very much for the kind words, Donna. But there IS a free pattern! Just follow the link in the video description and you can download the stencil that I designed. Print it out and get busy building! Thanks again for watching!
Hey drew. I have just drawn up some templates for this stand as im making one for my brothers 50th birthday. Thankyou so much for the inspiration, and the out takes so I don't have to say "oh crap" around my kid when I make the same mistakes.
I am having a really bad run in life at this time of life, l thank you for putting a smile in my soul and some really great ideas for projects that l may adapt for my sucky shoulders before major surgery
Hola! 🖐I watched your "other" guitar stand video and really enjoyed that one as much as I did this one. Had to watch the "Brian Ferry" video (thanks for linking it), that was hilarious :D I would have liked for your buddy to play a little something since he had to go get a guitar anyways. Even though he says it's too nice to take on the road, I hope he gets a lot of use from it. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
Thanks for sharing. Both the guitar stand and the video are well-crafted. I'm also fond of your use of "imperfections" in the maple. Those boards could have ended up in someone's fireplace. You saved them for a better future. Hot licks!
Nice build, try sharpening your router bits with a diamond card and also leave about a business card's width of material to rout that way the router doesn't have to work as hard. I really dig the stand you made, the knots make it look killer.
A Brilliant build and it looks Fantastic, i would love one of them. A slight problem, i don't play any musical instruments ha ha, still a great build. Well Done. Barry (ENG)
Really great job! I will have to make myself one of those as long as it can hold an Acoustic guitar.........Thanks for posting..............As an aside, I would suggest making a strap (or holding device) that wraps around the guitar just to be on the safe side........... :) Steve
Yes, the stencil provided has a 5" depth that will easily accommodate an acoustic guitar. You can add a "safety strap" if you want, but honestly... with the non-slip cushions, it takes a lot to bump the guitar over. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just watched the video today. At the start of the video there is a sausage shaped detail in the stencil that I thought was going to be a handle. My OCD mind won't let go of "Why didn't he add that detail into the piece". For my sanity is there a reason you didn't add that detail? In all other aspects it is a really cool project and it is very cool to see how your shop has grown since 2017.
That was going to be a hand-hold for carrying the stand but I ended up drawing it way too small. Once I redrew it the size it would need to be, I realized it would be too big to fit inside the piece so I just nixed it altogether.
Bryan Ferry, Stick Together? You were right, the knotholes added so much character to the piece. It came out fabulous. I DO want to know why you did not notch out for the hinge? Am I being picky?
You're right about the Bryan Ferry song, Let's Stick Together. :) Since the stand can't close completely anyway (due to the leather cord), I didn't think it was necessary to notch out the hinge. Thanks for the comment and for watching!! See ya next video!
Hey Drew, beautiful work. I've scaled it down to ukulele size and embellished it slightly for the little wifey for Christmas. I'm about to finish it but I was considering beveling the base surfaces to the angle of the floor beforehand. Do you think it needs it or does it stands fine on the rubber feet? Once I get my crappy version video online I'll send people your way to see how to do it properly ;) Cheers!
I'd say that you probably don't need to bevel the bottoms as long as you're using rubber feet. If you're not, then the additional surface area touching the ground will help keep the stand from sliding around. Looking forward to seeing your version of it!
I am thinking of making one of these for a friend who lives in Europe. I don't own a guitar so I don't have one to test the opening width with. Do you have a rough idea on how wide I should set the string to keep it from opening too wide? I want to send it to him for Christmas this year. Thanks.
Scott, I also don't play the guitar and had the same concern. I simply tied the knot only on one end and told the person I gifted it to to tie the other once they had sized it to their guitar.
Fisher's Shop ok thanks. Good idea. I like your flip cart design over the one I built a year or so ago. I plan to make it for my 2nd shop cart. Thanks again
Love the stand! Looks great. Can anyone tell me what sort of guitar was put on the stand at the end? Looks kind of like a Les Paul shape, but acoustic.... I like it....
Hey Johnny! Not sure if you mean to contact me (Drew), or Stephen (He's my friend that provided the music for other guitar stand video). I'll send you a message on FB.
Hahahahahaha average strength of a nine year old girl! Loved this video and actually one of the best on "how to make a guitar stand" that I've seen. Great job. thank you
I love this idea and I like the final product, but wouldn't it have been better to level the bottom of the stand in the open position instead of the closed position? It will be operated in the open position and the edges are not flat against the floor.
Haha yeah, I'm not really big on putting music in my videos. I only do it very rarely. I guess this video could have been a good exception, oh well. Thanks for the comment, KSFWG!
Was your Bryan Ferry reference for Let's Stick Together? Wasn't familiar with that one. Slave To Love is the song I remember by him. ruclips.net/video/Z9EbR0ckb40/видео.html
I'm impressed you got it. Yeah, it's from his album of the same name. I love that song even though it's so simple. Just sticks (pun intended) in my head. :) Thanks for watching!
I love obscure references to songs. I just subscribed a week ago. If I can expect more of these kind of references and your sense of humor, I'm sure I'll be sticking around and likely go through your back catalogue. Have a great day!

Hi
Well, hello there.
great video. Love your sense of humour, even if I didn't get the Brian Berry joke...

I made one of these for my brothers 50th. He loved it. Wish I could show a picture here.
It is refreshing to hear a wood worker share, to many, just want us to watch them saw wood while we listen to their favorite looped song!
Those knots really do pop.
LOL! I love your humor! Also, great planning and execution. Gonna try this myself for my own guitars and my bass instructor.
Rock on!
Thanks for including the presentation of the gift. It gives the video a personal feel.
Glad you liked it, shooter! Thanks for watching
Very cool gift, turned out nice. Love your sense of humor!😅Nice touch filming the presentation to your friend.
Thank you 😁
This guitar stand is VERY cool. Looks pretty easy to build, as well. The best part is that it folds flat for travel too. Good job.
Thanks Mike
@@FishersShop I'm planning to build one very soon.

Thanks Barry! You always have the nicest things to say, I really appreciate it and it keeps me motivated to make more. Thanks again!
grandioso!!! justo lo que buscaba
I had to make a leash for my dust extraction remote because I always suck it up with the shavings so I get that outtake for sure.
I've read that maple and cherry need a slower rpm at the router to not burn. Maybe try that? Great video, Drew!
Thanks, Bruce! I didn't know that... that's a great tip! Now I need a variable speed router in my table I suppose.

Reminds me of a Taylor t5 standard but pretty sure it's not exactly that model, maybe a copy or something similar..sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Tried three tape pieces at once... the dog and I are now considered Siamese twins. Lesson learned.

You could. But with the rubber feet it doesn't really matter.
For some reason the template doesn't download load correctly. It spans 7 pages
That's correct. Print it out and piece it together
@FishersShop oh ok. I didn't realise that was required. Thanks
Can you share the template, so i can prin it?
Someone know if the stencil is still available? If so, where it is? Thank you.
