A great scene. Kimble puts himself in danger of getting caught to save Joel's life. You can literally feel the emotion Kimble displays, masterfully portrayed by Harrison Ford, knowing that the diagnosis was wrong and then correcting it. It makes you feel just as good as Kimble by simply watching it. Very rare in movies nowadays.

It's cute how he chats with the kid calling him "pal" and all that while he's terribly stressed, scared and justifiably paranoid. Even in such a pressure, he still manages to act like a real doctor. What an amazing character.

The comfort, compassion, and humanity that Richard Kimble gives to young Joel (who had to be scared out of his mind as well as being in terrible pain), shows that he has the true heart and soul of a healer. I love the calm, assured tone he gives Joel, and how he gently rubs Joel’s head after checking his pupils. Harrison Ford is a master of his craft. This scene reminds me so much of my own dad, who was a medic in the Air Force, and displayed the nurturing and humanity that Ford does in this scene

Speaking as a former training family doctor I can tell you that the child had a punctured lung- a pneumothorax - which would have killed him. The chest film gave that away in seconds. What I find incredible that Kimble put himself in terrible danger to save the life of a child,. He risked getting caught and being taken back into federal custody. Even Deputy Gerrard would have noticed something when he asked "how is the boy doing?" The junior female doctor said, "saved his life." A real hero in every sense of the word.

Retired ER doc here. I don’t see a pneumothorax on the X ray (which hf is reading backwards, btw😂). Possibly a traumatic ruptured thoracic aorta (widened mediastinum on x ray)? Although I don’t recall being presented with a mechanism of injury, the reddening on his chest suggests blunt trauma of some sort. This would be a true surgical emergency , whereas a pneumothorax can be treated in the ER.

Best scene in the movie. I've never considered Harrison Ford a great actor, but there was something divine in him for this role. In his face and voice and body language, he gets across the determination as he decides to look at the film, the panic (of being too slow and also of being caught) as he tries to catch the elevator, his nerves as the doctor looks over the tampered paperwork, and brief feelings of satisfaction and normalcy being back at a hospital. Always loved this movie.

It was a very touching scene. He risked getting caught for a chance to use his expertise and managed to save Joel's life.

In the film, Julianne Moore would be a romantic interest for Harrison Ford. But the director thought it did not make sense for Dr. Richard Kimble to get involved with a woman while seeking revenge for his wife's death. So they deleted most of the scenes with Julianne Moore. At least that's what I heard.

I've heard that in interviews too. That explains why she's listed so early in the credits despite only being in two scenes.

he was right to do that perv producers can ruin things by wanting to throw sex into everything .Russel crowe said when he was doing a movie where he was a gladiator and seeking revenge for his family the producers wanted to throw in some random sex scenes and he said it didnt make any sense .for the guy to stop in the middle of the through line of the story for some ass which didnt add anything to the story .This movie is a really great story it doesnt need shock or ham handedness or to brow beat people the way all movies and tv do today its very direct and involving story told very well .With great actors like ford and Jones

Great scene of the movie. The whole movie is a great cat and mouse story but takes break to reveal Kimble's altruism. Makes me choke up how he could not deny his oath to help others as a doctor.

When you're in America, the country that thrives financially off illness, it's probably a shitty place with bad doctors. In the UK, I couldn't speak higher of the doctors. My girlfriend is quite ill and every doctor we've ever seen has been better than anything we could imagine... And they don't get paid much.

This may seem like an irrelevant, insignificant scene, but it’s anything but. Kimble is a doctor, after all, so we see him willing to risk his freedom to save the life of this kid. And the limited screen time they share serves to demonstrate Kimble’s exceptional bedside manner.
We were told he’s a brilliant surgeon from the beginning, and have no reason to doubt it, but they made a point to show it, and did so in a way that makes the most of tension and suspense.

Just as they said Jesus, the night before his death, he continued to serve people. All the while knowing and anticipating his own death, this scene really portrays that some people even when you've sent them out to the Wolves alone and afraid, they will still put others before themselves knowing this could have ruined his entire mission. When this movie came out I was about 15 and it was an EPIC tale. I didn't learn much from my 'parents' so I relied on movies, bits and pieces and this janitor scene always stuck with me. Help others worry about yourself later.
