NY had some whack rappers, but they were always better at gatekeeping for talent. Most NY artists of the 90's had classic albums. That falls off heavily in other regions without local bias. Every Rapper in Wu Tang has a classic solo album. No disrespect to Goodie Mob, but they just didnt have that. I'm from the South. NC to be exact so we had some east coast sensibilities while still being southern. During those times I remember growing up and hearing my older cousins playing Wu Tang and Onyx, then turn around and put on Pastor Troy and Master P.
Because in NC we always had southern and northern/East Coast influences in our fashion, styles, slang, and hip hop. Plus, a lot of us have families and ties to the Tri-State area. That's why we never participated in this NY hate, North vs South, East Coast vs North stuff. Overall, I agree with your comment. I love Goodie Mobb, Master P, No Limit, OutKast, Scarface, Eightball and MJG, K-RINO, David Banner, UGK, T.I, Jeezy, Jermaine Dupri, Getoboys, MC Shy D, but other than that, Southern Hip Hop isn't that great, even when compared to the West Coast which is far superior. The overall talent level, quality, content, and lyricism is no way comparable to NY/East Coast rap. I remember in the mid 2000s to go from Canibus, Busta Rhymes, Lost Boyz, Big Pun, Mobb Deep, AZ to Franchise Boyz, ShopBoyz, D4L, Webbie was terrible. I even prefer the Midwest over Southern rap; they have Common, J.Dilla, Obie Trice, Bone Thugs, Slum Village, Royce Da 5'9", Do Or Die, Illa J, Binary Star, Lupe, Tech N9ne, Da Brat, etc.

Gipp doesn’t understand the criteria for great MC’s. It’s not record sales. It’s lyrical ability, style, flow, originality etc. I don’t agree that Jay is number one I personally think Nas is a superior MC but top lyricist are respected regardless of where they are from.
Hadd???? there are so many wack Brooklyn/Chiraq/Drill/South-influenced rappers in NY right now. Super trash.

It'd the mecca. No one down South perhaps wayne yeah wayne. Can touch meth or red facto.
No Atlanta rapper has ever never laid a verse like jay z God Did.
Thus the guy said Gucci is in his top 5. Top 5 ever.
He probably thinks Boosie is the best rapper ever. 🤧
Gip. My man. I was with you until you said nba YoungBoy and drake sold more. Nas is a 3 point shooter. Jay z is a 3 point shooter. Andre 3000 . Kurrupt. Eminem. Jadakiss ,styles P On and on. These are spitters. Real rap. Not mumble mouths or love song rappin kats. Salute goodie mob but come on folk. Jay just raps. He ain't making these list etc etc. Of course you'll think your right if your the only talking. Every time. Salute king.
I didn't know Jay-Z is one of Art's favourite rappers. I assumed he wasn't a fan😆
same cuz he keep interviewing ppl that bad mouth Jay lol
🤣He kept his mouth shut about it and just let Gip run off. Gip tried to clean it up a little after he said. He got his clicks tho.
He distanced himself accordingly. The site was about to get flagged for hate-mongering. WTF? Lol.

To me Ludacris is the one who really set the bar for the south to go mainstream. Lil Jon as well they started that rush and us in New York always respected that and bump their shit
Cash Money was before Ludacris and Lil John tho Never heard of Ludacris or Lil John performing in the Tunnel.. Cash Money Hot Boyz did tho
@@statusofmyown9829 New Yorkers only think of Atlanta when south is mentioned them as a whole dominated more than any other “southern” spot other than Memphis my boy. Cash money did their thing but Luda and Jon opened doors to go UP!!!
@Status Of My Own i agree. outkast were dope Luke and them had there thing even Scarface and the ghetto boys did well but Cash Money really blew the south up. EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE was tapped in to them
OutKast did

Radio wise, the South blasted through the speakers.
But real Hip Hop is heard from lyrical rappers.

Y’all some clowns for thinking that Gip has an issue with NY! He just broke down why NY isn’t the best …and y’all still hate! Like it or not, he spit facts and it can’t be denied! Live with it!
