I used the airzound for awhile. After it failed, I've decided to fit a Wabco D-5 airhorn from a retired NYC subway car with a custom air system to my bike for a portable horn system. It strikes an octave lower than the airzound. Definitely something that most people wouldn't do, but it's fun. If you want to go extremely overkill, you can build a trailer with train horns and an air compressor with manual horn valves (Which I've done lol).

Overall, I was not that impressed with this horn, and yes, you are right about the time between refills. I gave it away ... never really needed a horn anyway!

We purchased rechargeable battery horns and have found them very effective.

I have found some other horn options on Amazon while searching for bicycle horns. I am sure that a battery operated horn would be much more compact than this AirzoundXL, which requires tinkering to figure out a mounting solution on a recumbent trike. Your horns are probably more appropriate for a trike!

@@EZSteve the bottle would make you less aerodynamic, probably not an issue when you carry all your luggage though

@@DemiGod.. Yeah, I was going to put the bottle in my frame bag, which hangs from my front frame member. It fit perfectly. But since I decided I didn't want this horn, I gave it away and didn't worry about it any more.

So Steve, did you end up returning it?
I read your comments to Tom, and I agree with you as to not really being able to mount it on a trike. Due to the air line not really being clean looking aesthetically, and the airline needing to have enough slack for turning the trikes handlebars.

I'm not going to hassle with a return. I got in on eBay. I would rather take the financial hit than mess with a return. I'll give it away to someone who needs it, or donate it to the local bike shop for Tim (the owner) to sell or use. I also have two pairs of near new clipless pedals I need to dispose of, along with my LAKE clipless MTB shoes, which are in excellent condition. I have too much unused cycling stuff under my work bench. It's gotta' go sometime!

I've been interested in the Delta Airzound horn. But I was a bit concerned about where to mount it on my HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS26 Plus Scorpion. I'll be looking forward to your mounting video to give me ideas. Keep on Triking!

    • @EZSteve
      @EZSteve  Год назад +1

I decided not to mount this on my HP Scorpion Enduro Tom, so there won't be any follow-up or actual evaluation. I tried a number of different mounting options, but just wasn't satisfied with any of them, so I have abandoned the idea. These are best suited for bicycles in my opinion, very simple to mount, but trikes present some challenges. I suppose the simple explanation is that this trike is a very classy looking rig, and I thought the Airzound detracted from the appearance. I know, it's kind of a eccentric reason, but hey, that's just me talking ... I am sure many other trikers are using these quite successfully, and totally happy. Mounting ease varies with the type of trike, and these Scorpions are very tight in their cable routing and tolerances, which made me realize (after buying this thing), that I didn't want to put it on the trike. BUT, that's not so say that you would be totally fine with it! So, don't let me discourage you!

Thanks for letting me know Steve. I had very similar thoughts about mounting it on my Scorpion. I haven't been able to locate any RUclips videos of it mounted on a recumbent trike (?).

    • @EZSteve

@@tomboyd9053 Nor have I Tom seen a mounting on a trike video. The horn part is kind of long, and on a bike it hangs down under the handlebar, so it is unobtrusive visually, but I found no counterpart on my trike. For me, it's simply a matter of personal aesthetics, nothing more, not to mention that if I mounted it on the handlebars, I would have a moving air tube as I turn the bars, and I just didn't care for the idea.

Hi Steve. I was considering the air zound because of riding in my subdivision. Why did you not choose to keep it? Did you find a better alternative? There’s a need to have this noise to defend ourselves. Thank you for your help.

      Hi Calvin,
After spending a couple of days trying this and that manner of attachment to the trike, and routing of the air tube, I simply was not satisfied with how it would fit and look. That's the bottom line really. I wanted to give it a try to stop aggressive attacking dogs (fortunately rare), because I had heard a cyclist say that a super loud horn like this had a dramatic effect on loose dangerous dogs, but I have personally never felt the need for a horn as far as motorists are concerned. So now, I just carry a small canister of pepper spray on the trike, and sometimes a battery operated "stun" device, neither of which I have ever had occasion to use.

I never ended up mounting and using this horn myself after buying it. I do not ride in big cities or high traffic situations anymore, and just don't have a need for a horn. Only one time, on a cross country trike adventure years ago, do I wish I had had this horn, when a huge motor home cut me off on Highway 395, but even then, it was not a close call (I was just mad at the driver's actions, and would loved to have scared him, haha).
