- Imagine enjoying your favourite meat only that this time round it is not from a cow, sheep or goat. That is the technology developed by Redefine Meat an Israeli company that is keen on reducing over-dependence on animals for meat. They do this by using plant-based ingredients and technology to produce meat. Another technology is the use of sound waves to transform male chicks into functional female layers that can lay eggs. And there is more, a system that monitors your cow’s health and steps on a daily basis while you’re kilometres away from the farm and sends you feedback. Our reporter Gatete Njoroge recently travelled to Israel where he interacted with the latest technology used by farmers to enhance their yields and solve farming challenges.
Kenya needs to tackle water shortages before they even think of anything else.

Thank you boss, finally someone who thinks critically. We have garbage water management, am so certain that if we improve water management we can solve 50% of our farm issues then we need the remaining 50% on technology and the rest.

Sad thing is we have all the resources we need even water. Look at all the rivers we have that can be used for irrigation. We can not even get Galana Kulalu irrigation scheme right after years since its inception. The other day Galana river was flooded the amount of river water flowing was mind boggling and this river passes through millions of acres of Arid land all the way to the coast. But do you see any activity on both sides of the river. Thats potential millions of agricultral land going to waste. Yet Israelis grow crops in areas as dry as the chalbi desert and make it into an oasis.
Am always convinced in Kenya we do not luck resources from land to water what we luck is imagination, will, leadership, determination and all we focus on is politics, mandamanos, whos up whos down, who is joining which party, spending billions on politics and wasteful govt appointments to please the political class. all the while Israelis are innovating into the next big thing and Kenya is caught up in a food crisis and forced to beg because we ignored the most important things.
Lets keep eating poltics because thats what is going to feed us and make us a prosperous country.

we have many students who have been trained in Israel through the exchange program that have students staying in Arava desert to learn these skills ... however the absorption plan has been unfruitful back to our country .
