It's good, but it's summarising a lot of details in a way that could lead to pretty bad misconceptions. Just to pick out one, this documentary mentions correctly that the Panzer IV was designed to complement the Panzer III, but it wasn't to kill "tougher targets". The Pz III was a tank hunter, the Pz IV was there to support infantry and destroy entreched defensive targets with it's short, low velocity 75mm assault gun, not the long barrel gun shown in the video. The only reason the Pz IV got the long barrel gun was because it's larger turret ring could support it, unlike the Pz III, and a bigger gun was needed to fight soviet tanks. This Infantry support tank, with it's armour focused forward in limited places (a singular strip of 80mm armour at the front centre, with paper thin 20mm armoured sides), was significantly less "all round reliable" than the Pz III's armour was (50mm front and sides, 30mm rear), on top of the tank also being less mobile. The Pz IV became the successor tank hunter because it had a bigger turret, not because it was better suited for the role of fighting tanks.

I heard these fairy tales for multiple times. About "1 german tank per 20 Soviet tanks". Still now Die Welt is continuing its Goebbels propaganda writing such articles as about the battle of Kursk. Germany "lost 6 tanks and the soviets - 300--400 tanks". The battle in which fascist Germany was broken its backbone and after which it just was not able to push forward. 70 years later and the fairy tales are the same.

Germany and Sweden are two great industrial nations when it comes to war technology. Take a look at Sweden's Archer Howitzer, for example. The 40mm Bofors gun. Bofors is a town in Sweden.
Christopher Alvarez lmao you clearly have no clue. After the war the engineers where forced to educate the Americans about everything they knew. And many stayed there developing stuff for the Americans.
@Christopher Alvarez Right, they weren't caught because they went to the Americans themselves, nobody wanted to work for the Russians, I had the best history teacher, my great grandpa "SS-Hauptsturmführer Alexander Su *** SS-Jäger-Bataillon 500/501"
They still don't have an army regardless of the state of the art technology they successfully develop. That's why I always use the joke "now all Germany needs is an army".
How can you not admire the germans and their engineering knowledge. It's a shame all that time and money wasn't put toward a lofter goal. We as humans spend entirely to many resources doing the exact opposite of what we should..
My dad was a tank seargent in the u.s army in the 60s in Germany, he was front line service against Russia also if war ever broke out....he told me different good stories over the years.....he told me when JFK got killed, that they all had to stand at attention for many hours with out moveing and he said a few guys passed out
The 16 ton Pz-III was slow into service because the poor suspension system had to redesigned 4-5 times before they finally settled on a suspension similar to the 19 ton Pz-IV in 1939. As it was >100 of these early Pz-III models were scrapped in 1940 , even though they only had 359 medium panzer at the time.
Right off the top I just want to note that actually the first tanks used in battle were absolutely beat. Their armor was actually too thin and they had no radios at the time. The commander in charge of them actually put a bullet through one of the tanks with his pistol when he tested it.

although both of these tanks are the most advanced MBTs, you forgot to mention the German Leopard 2 tank, keep in mind it was the Germans whose tanks were the most feared tank during WWII. If these tanks were to duke it out--it depends on the crew abd their training which will decide who will survive.
They were the scariest until the reinforced KV-1 and T34-85 appeared. There is nothing worse than a tank that almost does not break, is repaired in the field and rushes to the Reichstag without stopping
One of the best books on tank doctrine between the world wars was by an Englishman known as Liddel Hart which was ironically effectively applied by the Germans at the beginning of WW2 giving a new dimension to the concept of highly mobile warfare.
I did have to chuckle when I was learning tank history and I saw the British, despite being the pioneers of the tank, completely devalued it and essentially handed the manual to Guderian. I can't remember if it was Hart, names escape me, but Guderian gives thanks in his book "Achtung, Panzer!", explicitly acknowledging that the core of the blitzkrieg was developed from a British idea. We threw it away, he put it to good use.

@@0lionheart Well I recall a British army exercise on Salisbury plain in the 1930's demonstrated how well the Tank concept the Germans used in WW2 would be.. sadly the British generals thought it bad form and chose to ignore the results..
As regards British WWI tanks, many broke down and others stalled in the rough terrain. A number were captured and used by the Germans. Most "breakthroughs" were sealed and then eliminated by counterattacks. The Germans also discovered that the good old 77mm field gun could knock out British tanks. Development of specialized AT weapons like the T-Gewehr and early 37mm guns followed. Early tanks were also very susceptible to mines. British propaganda would have you believe the "panic" stories, but the Germans adjusted pretty quickly. Mind you, British propaganda would also have the uninformed believe that the Germans were being destroyed by attrition. In reality, as John Mosier points in the "The Myth of the Great War," using official German and Allied casualty figures, it was the other way around. Plus, German stormtrooper tactiice based on mobility and firepower were being worked out as early as 1915 and were alleadt=y in widespread use by the 1918 German offensives. The US Army saved the Allies.
For those who wonder why most MBT`s raise their guns when they shoot it to make the reload much faster and the loader doesn't have to bring the shell up to head hight
That's because in America documentary it is all about how good American products are and how superior there soldiers are no matter what real history has to say they will just change the history
The best German tanks the world has ever seen in WW2. Most superior armor Fantastic gun Most powerful ammunition Great engine,.. most advanced The most advanced communication The best navigation,.. Superior soldiers' training and skills And what,... the battle of Kursk,... 2500 tanks at each side, the Soviets equipped with T-34 tanks had won
At the end of the fighting in Kursk, the German forces had suffered 200,000 casualties and lost 500 tanks, while Soviet losses amounted to 860,000 casualties and 1,500 tanks. The Germans started with 2700, the Russians with 3300
German engineering is constantly improving foundational designs. IMHO I drove 4 VW’s over 50 years, from a 36 HP to 65 HP boxster engine designed by Ferdinand P.
A bit confusing when the T34 is mentioned. The Panzer IV was upgunned after the T34 was encountered and was a match for the T34 in gun power until the T34 with an 85mm gun was introduced. By then the Germans had other tanks to deal with the new T34 and the Panzer IV was still leathal against the upgunned T34.
Good documentary. As has been observed, the A7V had very poor mobility, the overhang causing it to get stuck and some of them actually tiipped over on rough terrain.

The Treaty of Versailles gets signed during the summer of 1919. The world: With this, you won't start the next war. Germany 20 years later: Halte mein bier.
The treaty of Versailles was produced without the Germans to discuss the paragraphs. when it was presented for signature, Germany refused because of the conditions put there as well as the claim, that Germany was solely responsible for the war. Signature was only done because the resumption of war was threatened, where Germany ghad already surendered its weaponry and would not have been able to fight. Despite the versailles treaty definition, only germany reduces its army and meterial, all other signatory nations did not do so, USA and UK even increased their marine and airforce. It was clear that Germany would not hold still for long.
And now the world forgot WW2, apparently. Here's their military industry in full swing. People were cheering when the Berlin wall came down, this is what it means.
The Treaty of Versailles was an unjust PRIME definition of Abuse of the entire country and the people. The Germans unfortunately didn't know what they got themselves into until it was too late after signing.

The electric motors provided the actual torque to the final drive and hence the tracks, the IC engines generated the electricity for the motors - its a technique used in Desiel electric submarines and some railway engines.
A 42 year old tank still being one of the best out there really says alot about the great german engineering. The Leopard 3 will once again be the best out there when it gets out of testing.
Christopher Alvarez you are comparing newer tanks with an old tank. Wow you clearly know how technology works. And the abrams is not better than the leo 2...
go to kursk dig around in the mud, and eventually youll find a completely destroyed tank, all you'd need to do from there is take it out of the mud, clean it, repair it, and have enough money to do that
Mobile protected firepower will ALWAYS be an integral part of warfare. Those who say tanks are no longer relevant in modern warfare are simply incorrect. The form of mobile protected firepower may change slightly from what we have become accustomed to, but it will certainly remain a powerful force on the battlefield for generations to come.

I heard these fairy tales for multiple times. About "1 german tank per 20 Soviet tanks". Still now Die Welt is continuing its Goebbels propaganda writing such articles as about the battle of Kursk.

Bofors is a town in Sweden.

although both of these tanks are the most advanced MBTs, you forgot to mention the German Leopard 2 tank, keep in mind it was the Germans whose tanks were the most feared tank during WWII. If these tanks were to duke it out--it depends on the crew abd their training which will decide who will survive.
They were the scariest until the reinforced KV-1 and T34-85 appeared. There is nothing worse than a tank that almost does not break, is repaired in the field and rushes to the Reichstag without stopping
did you not watch that doco?

Because people can't be trusted.Their nature is cruel than animals.Thats why digital or paper currency can be always manipulated what ever the technology is you may say block chain tech is even made by humans and can be manipulated when needed..
@@0lionheart Well I recall a British army exercise on Salisbury plain in the 1930's demonstrated how well the Tank concept the Germans used in WW2 would be.. sadly the British generals thought it bad form and chose to ignore the results..
Liddel Hart didnt write the best tank tactics book in the world. That was Rommel.
I've been waiting for this! Thanks WELT!
