Carly Rae Jepsen’s career summarized: Pre 2012: Not known by anyone 2012: Call Me Maybe 2012-2014: Call Me Maybe girl 2015: Releases “Emotion” (album) and became a gay icon who now has amassed a cult-like following as a pop legend 🌈💕
Scooter Braun is a piece of work for only promoting Justin Bieber and Ariana grande when we had/has Carly Rae jepsen, CL, amber riley, tori Kelly and Asher Roth right on his label. Emotion is still one of the best pop albums of the decade.
carly rae jepsen is one of the best Pop artists of this generation EMOTION and dedicated were critically acclaimed and her music isn't that kind of generic radio friendly pop music, she's heavily inspired by 70s and 80s synth-pop which fits her so much! she's probably my favorite female pop artist
Scooter has ruined the careers of many. He has a tendency to sign artists that are trending and have huge potential, and under promote them. Honestly, he has more flops to his name than he does hits. Tori Kelly, Rixton, Who Is Fancy, The Wanted, CL, Psy, and The Knocks could have all been huge, but had their careers mismanaged by Scooter.
To be honest, the issue with CRJ in my opinion is that she has too many down-beat slow songs. Her upbeat music (even when it's about serious subject matter) is what really shines, but it comprises little of her discography.
her career isn't ruined. she's still living her best life and putting out amazing bodies of work, and I'm sure she's much happier now. a lack of mainstream chart success doesn't equal failure.
She has established her own identity. She is loved by loyal fans. She's got a cult following her who truly appreciates her. She's an unbothered queen. We love her
A big part of her downfall was her management. Scooter controlled everything up until I Really Like You. Apparently, he left an intern with Carly after that song didn’t do good. It was managements decision to release Emotion in Japan way before the US release date. Plus the record leaked around that time and didn’t help at all. Scooter dropped her not long after it was released in the Us. A friend who is a huge Carly stan gave me this tea.
Carly didn't want to be a pop superstar. Wasn't into the intense attention. She let her management and co-writers know this. She likes the cult status. It's an intentional strategy.
I really like I Really Like You, but it takes a while to build. Run Away With You slaps you in the face and says "I'm back bitches". It kicks off the album and it should have kicked off that era.
I kind of think Carly's in the best position she could be in though. She has a ton of creative control, she works with amazing co-writers and producers, she's a critically acclaimed indie darling with a devoted following and is a gay icon. To me, that seems like a much better outcome than being a really huge pop star, what with all the baggage and restrictions that come with that.
She is more real to me, she is sweet and positive and showing her emotions in such a powerful, unique, and effective way. All of those things on her is balanced and shows her own charm of personality.
I think she's ok with where she is at in the music industry. She once commented that the CMM success was overwhelming and that kind of fame was uncomfortable for her.
Carly Rae Jepsen, Lorde, Charli XCX, Tove Lo, etc. are all artists with at least one very recognizable hit and then has proceeded to create so many masterpieces that don’t even chart and I fail to see why. Like even if the promotion is week, don’t people get curious about where these people ended up? And Carly has such a huge fan base with the LGBTQ+ community so I’m surprised her later songs aren’t as well known.
I think it’s good that they aren’t mainstream and don’t chart. It prevents the music from being overplayed and losing the creative edge that it has. They are the few pop artists that are keeping the genre alive and it’s a good thing that mainstream media hasn’t tainted that.
benjamin jackson Well she at least deserves to earn more revenue and accolades for her albums since they are much masterpieces. Even if she doesn’t see the charting performances we think she deserves.
Carly Rae Jepsen, Lorde, Charli XCX, and Tove Lo all have largely-gay fanbases (and I'm gonna throw in Allie X here because more people need to find her). What is my takeaway? Gay people know good music.
Call Me Maybe was huge, but it wasn't the kind of song that made you interested in the artist who sang it. Didn't help that her followup singles were nowhere near as memorable, and by the time EMOTION rolled around, any interest in her as a persona was completely gone. She's found her niche and seems to be much happier now than when she was under Scooter's wing, so I say just let her thrive in her own lane
She’s actually playing the long run. No one’s going to notice her getting older and consumed with fame, which is a nice thing for a change. Her faithful fans will be there to support her artistic integrity instead of just remembering her as the “Call Me Maybe” girl.
@@captainayaaya28 not to be liased, taylor has also betrayed people but in this scooter case scooter betrayed her, by selling her music without permission
I feel like Carly Rae falls into the emerging group of artists that gain huge gay/pop fan followings, and even have one or more hits, yet never hit the mainstream (such as troye Sivan, charli xcx, Tove lo, etc.) it’s a real shame because she is BEYOND talented, and also so so sweet in person! emotion is such an amazing album, one of my favorites!
Sir Snakespeare at the end of the call me maybe music video, it’s revealed the guy carly’s crushing on in the video is gay. (also I’ve seen a lot of drag queens do lipsyincs to her songs lol.)

I saw Carly Rae perform in Philly. It was a sold out show, and the venue was packed to the point of not being able to move. The crowd was absolutely wild for her and they sang along to every song. You never would have known that she was considered "underrated" by the love in that venue.
I just listened to E•MO•TION yesterday for the first time and it’s a bop. I also somehow forgot she was Canadian until right now lmao. Edit: Apparently I saw her live when I was younger😳
She deserves so much better. Her music progressively gets better and better, it’s so hard to top your latest work (quality-wise) but she keeps doing it with every other album.
She's not that one hit wonder 😔 I'm so sad that she's so underated 😭 She makes music for the soul. Please give her a chance, listen to her albums. She deserve so much. One of the best songwriters in this generation (for me ✌️)
I really love her music. She was greatly misrepresented! Her music is fun ad great to listen to. I hope she gets the right management who will really support her .
She’s making consistently great music. Who cares if she doesn’t make another monster hit. Her body of work is substantial and she will keep growing if she doesn’t succumb to the pressure of trying to repeal such a monster hit. She needs to work on a more impactful image. Her music is great.
It’s hard for people to give someone a chance if they aren’t into the big hit. Call Me Maybe is by far her worst song. That doesn’t help. However she is super popular underground bc many did give her a chance
I feel like Carly Rae Jepsen is on the cusp of being a major name again. Her music seems to be aligning with pop artist right now like Dua Lipa or even some of the things Lady Gaga is experimenting with right now. Great Video !
I've listened to alot of her later music, she is phenomenal! I remember when Call Me Maybe was everywhere and I wish people would take a listen to her new stuff. The music is amazing! Hopefully, if she keeps making good music and if the critics have anything to go by....I hope eventually gets some grammy recognition. She really has grown as an artist. Give her a listen!
Seen her in concert last year and let me tell of you that CONCERT WAS STANDING ROOM ONLY PACKED AS HELL SHE WAS AMAZING VOCALS WERE ON POINT AND SHE'S SOOO FRIENDLY SHE IS POP PERFECTION
She's got so many good songs on her last two albums, it's just ridiculous! 😅 Run Away With Me, Your Type, Let's Get Lost, Favorite Color, Warm Blood, Gimmie Love, Making The Most Of The Nighy, Feels Right, Want You In My Room, Now That I Found You, Party For One, I'll Be Your Girl, Automatically In Love, Comeback, Solo, Fake Mona Lisa,... (probably forgot a lot!) She's criminally underrated!
*EMOTION* was basically was *folklore* & *Future Nostalgia* before they ever dropped. I say that bc *EMOTION* was originally titled *Eternal Summer* & was meant to be a indie-folk album this was later scrapped but sounds similiar in that sense to *folklore* which was released after. The sound of the final product is similar in the sense that *Future Nostalgia* is more throwback just like the project itself. So, I guess her music was just before its time, yet, those that came after did better.
To me Carly Rae is one of those artists who didn’t set out to be a pop star but had a surprise hit and after some financial success just did what they wanted. I don’t see anything wrong with that career path.
Ahhh thank u so much for doing a video on her! Ur the BEST! Carly is literally one of my favourite artist! Her new album slaps big time in my opinion...
I forgot about her right after "call me maybe" went down the charts and I appeared to listen to her again after 3 years when she dropped "EMOTION". it was a great body of work but I still wouldn't give her Grammy worthiness for the whole work tho cuz it lacks cohesiveness but individually, each track is amzing.

I think she does this intentionally. She said that she hated hearing her song everywhere and maybe thats why she tries to avoid getting high on the charts.
I really don't understand music industry sometimes like i never really liked Call Me Maybe but Run away with me is God tier pop song. RUN AWAY WITH ME is perfect and call me maybe is meh! I love Carly so much
Her official best songs are these: (Without specific order) Cut to the Feeling Run Away with Me Gimme Love First Time This Love Isn't Crazy Comeback The whole Dedicated Side B Happy Not Knowing Want you in my Room Making the most of the Night I Really Like You Your Tipe Boy Problems
I don’t care what others say, Carly is a pop icon! Her music is unlike any other and she’s proven that with her releases after Call Me Maybe. She’s underrated yes and she deserves more but I couldn’t be more proud for how she and her music progressed over the years! 🗡
Social media is the new medium for artists and how they can continue a career without the need for a big label pushing their content on listeners. I love Emotions and was shocked that it didn’t chart better, however, there are loads of fans who are dedicated to her music. You don’t need big wigs at record companies to help with your success. You can do it on your own.
She may be a one hit wonder in the eyes of the world. But she never sold herself off to being that. I actually got into her when EMOTION was released and I have been a fan of her ever since.
Nothing happened. She may not release a single as big as Call Me Maybe anymore but she's doing just fine. E.MO.TION was a cultural reset. Its Side B was also a masterpiece. Dedicated and its Side B were awesome too! Too bad the general audience slept on her after CMM. But now, she has a cult following. We will still be supporting her no matter what happens.
I remember hearing I really like you for months due to my participation in my school fancy footdrills.. It remain my favourite song from Carly Rae Jepsen.
i love carly and i am currently trying to find time to listen to her albums, because i think she really deserved more. also i hear call me maybe all the time here in canada
E.mo.tion is flawless. and then we have the b-sides which are amazing too. I had that album on loop for months. Dedicated is brilliant too and she dropped the b-sides for us this year. She's doing just fine.
She is more real to me, she is sweet and positive and showing her emotions in such a powerful, unique, and effective way. All of those things on her is balanced and shows her own charm of personality. She can take your heart and mood into her songs, then she and the audience are all in the same world. She might not be a huge pop music artist soon, but ask people who like her, they keep a soft and special spot in their heart because they share and bound together by mood and memory. And not even mention that her music recently is very good to dance with, and easily make you want to sing with her. It's just like, she knows my feelings, and I know her feelings too.
I feel like the music that she makes now is much better then her old music, and yet, she is mostly recognized for her old music
That’s what’s mostly with big 2010 artists. They make generic pop in their early career and mature over time with their sound
Don’t forget taylor swift and Katy Perry’s new music sounds very similar to Carly rn
NAGISA SHIOTA yea true, although Katy and Carly aren’t getting the acclaim that they deserve
Her new music with the bleachers is pure gold.

Her "Runaway with Me" should be a big hit over the world, but it's so sad that the song is way too underrated
just like meghan trainor with all about that bass getting diamond certification
I don’t care what others say, Carly is a pop icon! Her music is unlike any other and she’s proven that with her releases after Call Me Maybe. She’s underrated yes and she deserves more but I couldn’t be more proud for how she and her music progressed over the years! 🗡
I feel like pop music drastically changed around the time Carly released Emotion and that she is a relic of the fun early 2010 pop
I honestly think that Carly has a really strong future and she'll gain back her success over time.
Emotion is still underrated -- literally the best pop album since Michael Jackson's work. Should have won a grammy.
THE CONTENT I NEEDED! THANK YOU✨
She may be a one hit wonder in the eyes of the world. But she never sold herself off to being that.
I actually got into her when EMOTION was released and I have been a fan of her ever since.
She reminds me of another Canadian band that never got airplay but sold millions of records and has a huge following worldwide Rush.
Carly Rae Jepsen is QUEEN and everything she's released from Emotion onwards is AMAZING.
I love Carly so much, she is one of my fav artist, she is talented and nice, deserves better.
i love carly and i am currently trying to find time to listen to her albums, because i think she really deserved more. also i hear call me maybe all the time here in canada
Runaway With Me is iconic tbh
I really like you could’ve been a huge hit hasn’t it been for the stupid music video and little promotion
I loved the Emotion album!
her singles are still doing great in Japan... at least radio airplay charts
She did tour Canada for the Emotion tour, but she was opening for a Canadian band called Hedley. I saw her live in Toronto at the beginning of 2016
i’ve seen her in perform in concert twice. she. is. amazing!
E.mo.tion is flawless. and then we have the b-sides which are amazing too.
I had that album on loop for months.
Dedicated is brilliant too and she dropped the b-sides for us this year.
She's doing just fine.
Run Away With Me not being the lead single to E•MO•TION was a true crime.
REQUEST: how Lana Del Rey made alternative music new pop
