  • We are thrilled to share we have another bright orange baby for you to see at the Zoo! On August 30, our Francois Langur Mei Mei gave birth to a healthy baby boy. However, Mei Mei wasn't attending to him, so our vet staff took the baby to our onsite animal hospital to care for him and make a plan to reintroduce him to mom. After a few days of bonding behind the scenes, he and mom are doing great and the entire family, including dad Chester, aunt Ling, and sisters Quy Bau and Lei, are obsessed with him! His birth is a huge conservation win for this species, as they are classified as Endangered by the IUCN. The Zoo supports New Nature Foundation’s habitat protection work in Northern Vietnam, so by visiting the Zoo, you are helping conserve the forests that are their habitat in their native country! Our partners in Vietnam have helped us name him Ông Cụ, which is a term that means "very old man" and is used when a boy is speaking wisely beyond his years.
So, why are these babies born bright orange? In Francois langur families, all females in the group take turns caring for infants. That's one of the reasons scientists believe the babies are born with bright orange fur, making it easier to see who has the baby!

Can you make your first video about changing the zoo Lily? If you don’t have to, you could just do a spider house.
