My favorite fun fact about the Barbie movies is the guy that voices Ken for most of first movies also voices L from Death Note in the dub. Talk about range and character whiplash. Ngl love the man's voice and wish he was cast in more anime.

Coming from a 22yo dude with zero nostalgia for Barbie: they were unironically some really solid films. Definitely had some scuffage due to a lower budget, but the stories were really well done and they were unexpectedly dark at times.
It was indeed gold, actually really solid movies not gonna lie. It was even more a surreal experience for me because the watchalong was at 4 am so I stayed awake 24+ hours, and by the end of it I was drunk-like due to sleep-deprivation.
Bae and Bettel are wondering what Vesper was ranting about the wizard and losing his powers. Vesper might be thinking of an internet wizard who attains powers by remaining single and kissless his entire life. So by way of marriage, the wizard would be sacrificing his attained powers, and Vesper (as a self-proclaimed wizard) would believe it to be BS. That, or gramps is just drunk lmao😂
I think Bae had a zoomer moment there, while Betsy seemed to understand after a bit of time processing what Gramps said.
@@theoverlordbear True, there was a shift in tone from Bettel wherein it could be in the sentence of "What the hell talking about Vesper?!" to "Don't think about it too much." Awesome trivia for the chaos rat to be such an authority on all things barbie, truly powerful indeed.
Honestly, it was a fun interaction between the three, hoping there could be more with other members but best we just let it happen naturally, gradually, not forced, that would be cringe.

They really made me wanna watch Barbie movies again. My favorite ones as a kid were always that fashion one with the glitter fairies (I forgot all the names lol) and the one where Barbie is a rainbow fairy.

Unironically though, I'm nowhere *near* anything approaching a fan of Barbie at all but like the movie is *fascinating* from the casting and approach and look, I'm willing to see it just to see what the fuck it might even be.
I remember when I was a kid during holidays the local tv stations would air these Barbie movies, as I am a person who holds the principle of "don't knock it till you try it" I very much enjoyed watching them. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy Barbie products still but if it's right in front of me I'll just enjoy what I'm seeing.
Also I remember hanging out with girls just to talk about Barbie movies so that's a thing.
The live action one looks like. I don't know how to describe it... demented in a wholesome way. Like if Wes Anderson did The Matrix. Like if a dragqueen directed a Lynch script. Existentialism... for kids! (debated).

@@vgc_ivan8391 they wanted it to have a more "realistic" look rather than modeling them after the actual dolls. Unfortunately, it just aged terribly while the older ones still still are fine because they do resemble the dolls, so it's ok they're kinda plastic-y
