I'm so glad you took the fun way, because I walked every step with you! I used to be a real Outdoorsman when I was younger, spent my career in construction so I was always outside! Thanks for taking me places I can no longer go!!
"The fun way," always best. My mother used to say, "The scenic route," meaning the long way, take your time, and look around all you want, just don't bother anyone.
Recently discovered your channel, and I’m so glad that I did. Love your depth and style of delivery. I lived in Pam Springs for 10 years, working as a Fine Art Consultant and Representative, so this video had special meaning for me.
Another cool video! Love the comparison pic from 100 years ago to today. We think of a hundred years as a long time, but it’s really just a blink of the eye in reality. I believe it’s disturbing to most folks that in a hundred years there may be no trace of us left. The earth doesn’t care and moves at it’s own pace. Thanks again for your videos, always interesting.
I feel like I just found a treasure by finding this I miss the canyon so much. I don't miss the heat of Palm springs, the stuck up people, any of that. But I sure do miss those mountains and the magic that are there
We lived in the Palm Springs area for over 3 years. Brings back numerous memories of that amazing desert enigma. Never knew about this cabin or its history. Thanks for bringing back some fond remembrances.
Explored the site earlier today after seeing your video. I had lived in this area for several years but never knew these ruins existed. What a great little hidden treasure of history for the PS area. Thanks again for the great content Steve. And yep, we took the 1 minute route. ;)
I love your channel. You travel the same roads I have traveled for the last 40 plus years and cover sights I missed in my own travels. I remember my family’s first drive through Palm Springs in the Late 70’s . Palm Springs was a necessary stop on the way north to LA and it was much smaller then. Keep these great videos coming.
Enjoyed this vlog! So much history all around me. I attempt to appreciate all the trials and tribulations early people endured before I got here. Thanks.
I thank you so much for your videos. They are so interesting. I like the way you are explaining everything, with lots of references to history of your beautiful country. And your humorous flashes are always so funny! Thanks again!
Nice find, Steve. I’ve been to cabins in that area a little higher up the mountain. I always marvel at how hardy those people were. Plus I admire how peaceful there evenings were. Thank you for seeking forgotten pieces of history.
This makes my heart so happy to see. I've lived in the desert (cathedral city and palm springs, respectively) my whole life and I absolutely love learning more about my favorite place, home. Thank you so much for this!! 💓💓💓
I often think about how rough life would have been 100 years ago. Even though you would have worries or concerns I believe life would have been better. Thanks!
I don't understand how people possibly survived there unless they lived in tahquitz canyon itself. It's the only water for so many miles, other than Indian canyon
Literally this morning I was wondering about this place. I've lived in Palm Springs for 9 years and have visited this old building quite a few times over the years. I've always wondered about its history.. thank you for this video!
Wow! That is one of your better Sidetrack Adventures for sure and getting to the cabin the ‘fun way’ is definitely the only way to go. 🥾🗺 I liked the rocky trail up. I was wondering if it would be a good place for metal detecting. Thanks for sharing. 👍☮️🌞🏜🏚❤️
Found your channel a couple days ago really Been enjoying it, Can you look into the dam that broke in the back of otai lakes somewhere around 1906 There was a barn down stream of the dam with proof in a safe that someone flew a plane before the Wright brothers
I have lived in Palm Springs since 1995. Hiked the Lykken Trail many times but had no idea the field cabin ruins were there. I never went that way because it was too close to backyards. Thanks for the video.
Wow! Impressive find! Isn't it interesting how the fireplace and chimney are always the last to go? Kind of haunting really. And holy cow! The before/after images of the area! 😯
Saw a couple of your videos previously but lost track. Just got this video and glad I did. I subscribed so I can get back to your channel easily. I am impressed by your style and the depth of the information. I’m in the Pacific Northwest but when I do occasionally travel south, if I’m in the vicinity of where you have shown in your videos I might just attempt to visit some of the locations.
Wow Steve ! Thanks for another great trek into history. Wondering if you had to take the fun journey back to the car ? Thanks for taking us !! Cheers from Detroit 🇺🇲
Thanks for the video. I live about 100 yards from the cabin. You are right it is relatively unknown. The Historic Tennis Club neighborhood is a gem just a block from downtown. Many of the homes are bordered by rock walls built by local Agua Caliente people.
Spent 17+ months there and went through the worst Flooding and Rain Fall that area had seen in 400 years ! White Water Wash was just a Raging overflowing river ! mFollowed that up with huge fo=ires up on the mountains and ASH fall all over the basin . And here for 30 years I had heard nothing but comments about this Palm Springs ,Palm Desert area ! WOW, WAS I EVER SURPRISED and NOT READY for what hit me !@
Cool video! The wifey and I have lived in Southern AZ for the last 3 decades and like occasionally watching one of your vids on things in the area. :) Found you due to the piece on Ms Orcutts driveway. :) Thanks for the vids!
Thanks for an interesting video. I’ve mostly lived in California since the 1960s but have never been to Palm Springs. It looks like they’ve got a lot going for them there.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I find myself pulling up the location on Google Maps to see exactly where you are. So not only am I learning interesting history, I'm learning geography, LOL!
I just discovered your channel and love it! I lived in PS in the 70's. I rented a studio guest house in the tennis club neighborhood (but didn't know it was called that) built in the 20's from a lady who had been in vaudeville. I worked at the Old World Restaurant downtown. I doubt I'd recognize it now! I loved Palm Springs- even in the summer!
Around 1930-1940 my Uncle and his wife owned a motel in Palm Springs and ran it until early ‘70. They loved the area but I’ve not had the opportunity to visit
Thanks for the video. I lived there for a few years, and never knew about the Avery Cabin. I have been to the tomb on the side of the mountain, and you should check out the concrete pads used for parking planes during WWII. A few of them are still visible near the airport.
Thanks.. Going to check that out... ride my bicycle past that area all the time.. There is also this private native american subdivision to the south of there. It's good time to year to explore Coachella valley.
A very interesting find I like historic site,s and places ,,but you need to be careful of rattlesnakes when you're on the trails ,,there are .any places to discover ,,so happy hunting ,, enjoy your channel ,,have a pleasant journey where ever you go
Glad it appeared to be cool weather. Many hikers suffer snakebites doing bushwhacking in the Santa Rosas including the trail you were walking on. Awareness is important when messing around those places.

Another lazy Sunday binging on your videos, next best thing to being there!

Glad you enjoyed it. The Palm Springs area is so nice, at least 75% of the year anyway.
I met Avery Field in 1936. Nice guy.
Explored the site earlier today after seeing your video. I had lived in this area for several years but never knew these ruins existed. What a great little hidden treasure of history for the PS area. Thanks again for the great content Steve. And yep, we took the 1 minute route. ;)
Very cool!
What is the name of the Road??
Wow, really enjoyed this. I've had a vacation home for over 20 years in Palm Desert and never knew this.

Great video, Steve. If you would have taken the easy way, we would have missed out on all of those spectacular views. Thanks for sharing. 💜
That's what I think too. Though we did just walk through the wash to get back haha
Nice find, Steve.
I’ve been to cabins in that area a little higher up the mountain. I always marvel at how hardy those people were. Plus I admire how peaceful there evenings were.
Thank you for seeking forgotten pieces of history.
Peaceful, yeah, but Rattle Snakes, Scorpions, Spiders, everywhere. 😆😆😆
Nice video. You find the most interesting places and since I live in the area I'm planning on visiting some myself.
This makes my heart so happy to see. I've lived in the desert (cathedral city and palm springs, respectively) my whole life and I absolutely love learning more about my favorite place, home. Thank you so much for this!! 💓💓💓
6:32 Nice save! And kudos for not editing out your mistake.
That plaque was dedicated in only Jun 2019. Surprising.
I lived in the area in the late 70s .I'd love to see more about the area such as Taquitz Canyon.
Excellent job overlaying the old photograph. That added a lot to this video. As a native San Diegan, I really enjoy your channel.
Thank you very much!

I grew up in Palm Springs in the 50s-60s. I never knew about this place. Excellent report and very interesting. Thanks
Thank you for watching.
Sorry for your families loss. RIP.
Loving this channel
Steve is a fine jewel in our beloved California,We are glad you are teaching us some good History
Another excellent sidetrack and funner adventure, Steve !!! Thank you for taking us along !!!
My pleasure!
Thank you for this! As a native Californian, I had no idea bout this bit of history. Beautifully presented.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice, love the Desert.🤎

I don't know about metal detecting, I always assume that every place that isn't hard to get to has been gone over a dozen times, but I'm not sure.
@@SidetrackAdventures You never know til you drag the metal detector there and give it a go. 😊
Awesome! Bet those mansion dwellers don't like sharing! 👍🇨🇦😎
Let’s go let’s go adventure 💕🌺👵✌️
I love it kinda reminds me of a documentary on Darwin ca
Just moved to this area earlier this year, so we'll definitely have to check out this hidden gem!
Your climbing mountains again Steve.😁 Very interesting history.
Somehow it keeps happening...

Yeah! Its always interesting be driving in the middle of nowhere and to come across a random chimney sticking up.

Thanks, I appreciate it. My grandparents lived in the Pacific Northwest and I spent a lot of time up there. Hoping to get back soon.
I saw it long ago used to live in palmDesert
Fascinating video on Palm Springs.
Neat! Gonna add this place to my list next time I'm in downtown Palm Springs!
Thanks for all your hard work putting these vids out for us to enjoy!!!
I really enjoy your videos. The history and music. It feels very "homely"
Love your exploration adventure & sharing
Glad you like them!
Great videos. Well done as always. Great voice. But history is not forgotten, its just ignored.
Thanks again Professor…I’ll probably never get there in person , but I have via this side-track adventure…
You do such a great job with this please keep it up! AND THANK YOU
Wow Steve ! Thanks for another great trek into history. Wondering if you had to take the fun journey back to the car ? Thanks for taking us !!

We just walked through the wash back to the car, so not as fun.

The neighborhood was wonderful. I was surprised it was so close to downtown.
Is it where the abandoned church is?
Yes, I can tell the Field Cabin withstood the Test of Time!!!

I'll bet that the residents of Palm Springs were relieved when you finally left! 😋
Nice work getting to the cabin ruins. Good that this history has been preserved in the area. Continued safe sidetracking ;-)
Love you taking us on your adventures
We live in Palm Springs and hike through he often and just now discovered the ruins
How cool ! What a great presentation.
We are going to go out to the Painted Forest and see the sights! Thank you for the information about the area and I enjoy your videos 👍
Wow! 😍 That was a flash to the past.

Very cool! Hopefully I should have more stuff in Arizona soon.
always enjoy you and the places you go
Great video... nicely done.. my girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place last winter, never knew it's history
Always appreciate your videos. You don't try to hide the location of your highlights as some people do.
Thanks for an interesting video. I’ve mostly lived in California since the 1960s but have never been to Palm Springs. It looks like they’ve got a lot going for them there.
It's paradise here.
Only in the winter
@@tiogacaltelcom More like end of October to end of April. The remainder? Pure hell. 🔥😈

I live here in Palm Springs and I try to look for new things
I lived in Palm Springs in 1980. I lived at Calle Papa Gyoe ct. There's was nothing past that except the Airport

I like your videos. Thanks.
Thank you.
Huh,been to Palm Springs numerous times and never til now knew of this🤔Thanks
Interesting place and history in Palm Springs. It's kind of pretty place.
You're right, going uphill is a constant battle against gravity, but going down is a constant battle against gravity.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I find myself pulling up the location on Google Maps to see exactly where you are. So not only am I learning interesting history, I'm learning geography, LOL!
Beautiful view 😍
You should explore the old racket club
Thanks for this. I may go check the ruins out.

Great video man!!!

WOW, that was a rough trail. I've hiked a bit in PS but I believe I've never done that trail....and probably won't. 😬
I really like your video's mate. Greetings from downunder.

Always make noise when walking in Snake infested areas.
