Is hyper mobility really a good thing in dance? It seems like being able to do that would cause more injuries as your body fails to limit you in the correct direction?
@@CSEmberyeah it can mess you up. Im disabled from hypermobility//eds but as long as you build muscle it can usually help. Be careful with your kneecap with those stretches..
Makes me happy how when it's already an acceptable position and they don't feel a stretch he doesn't force them to go further. Ballet, gymnastics, you name it. Big change is coming for the better
Yup! When I was a gymnast, we did oversplits which is putting your front leg on top of a mat or block or something and split past the 180°. When we did that with no pain, our coaches would either find us a taller mat, or pull our front legs higher themselves.
@fenderr because flexibility is a huge component of the sport and it's easier to show that off during routines when you practice stretching with over splits.
@fenderr because with a greater over split, the easier the dance skills are. It's not like they hiked our legs an extra foot. It was just enough to add some stretch instead of being easy. When you do 180° splits, eventually it stops hurting so it's good to push a little bit past whats easy. It's like doing 30 push ups and feeling like you can't do more but if you do a couple more, you build muscle and stamina. Same goes for stretching. You push for that extra half inch or so then go back to where you are comfortable. Then the next time you do the same thing until that extra half inch is your new normal. If you are already warmed up and are used to flexibility, it doesn't hurt to add height, it just feels like pressure... then you back off.
Not unless someone teaches her how to control that degree of hyperextension. Never learning how to control my hypermobile joints because it was encouraged in ballet and gymnastics is one of the reasons I've been stuck walking with a cane or a crutch since I was 21.
