Setting up a spreadsheet makes this so much easier. Create one cell for the ratio number (33, 40, 50, etc) then reference this cell in the calculations and all you ever have to do is change that ratio number to fit whatever application you need. You then create other cells for any amount of gasoline you want, .125 (1/8) gal, .25 gals (1/4), .5 (1/2) gals, 1 gal etc. The calculation cells then calculate the proper oil qty based on the content of the ratio number. Print it out for your application and you have an easy, at-a-glance reference pinned to the wall or in the equipment case. The neat thing about this is you can also easily calculate it backwards to find out how much gasoline to put into a fixed amount of oil if you find yourself with limited oil availability at any given time. Works the same for liters, just add more cells for that type of measurement and apply the appropriate calculations. Done right, the only number you would ever need to change is the ratio number and you wouldn't even need to do that if you just add more columns for each standard ratio.
Something to note, before you fill up your fuel tank in your equipment shake the jug of fuel to be sure its completely mixed up as the oil can settle out a bit if it has sat for a while. You don't want to dump in a bunch of regular fuel by mistake because the oil had settled out of the fuel. Learned this the hard way...its really bad on your 2 stroke engine if it doesn't get any oil for a while they tend to seize.
Excellent video. To the point, easy to understand. I will be purchasing a 2-stroke engine for a bicycle soon and was wondering about the ratios. Now I know an easy way to calculate it.
very nice video, i wrote this down and will throw it in with the other "smart" tools. I run an old McCulloch chainsaw and was told they like the 40:1 ratio. this was the greatest ratio problem solving tool ever! thanks alot and nice tool box by the way
It seems so much easier to use metric units. I can't even remember what an ounce is (grin). I just use one of those syringes sold at wallmart for the oil, and stick with a fixed single volume in the form of a small gas container dedicated to the device. Doing the same volume each time frees the mind of calculations, and lets you concentrate on the job at hand.
I have fun issues- I have a weed wacker that takes 50 to 1 mix. I have a LawnBoy lawn mower that takes 32 to 1. I really don't use that much gasoline and I'd like to keep it fresh, I can't justify keeping two different gas containers for these. I usually mix for 50 to 1 and guess to make it 32 to 1 for the mower. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
As much as I like math, I do the mixing the hard way. I go to the gas station and put a gallon of gas and a 2.6 ounce bottle of oil in my gas can, shake it up and I am good to go. LoL. All joking aside, very good explanation of the ratios.
Hello, how much oil fits in a capful of these small bottles? The Super Tech has a chart on the back, but it doesn't say how much is in a capful if you need to use less than a gallon (1-2 small tankfuls).
google search engine has a built in calculator that does this pretty easy. so for instance if you want to do 5 gallons of gas at a 32:1 you simply type "5 gallons / 32 to ounces" into the search box and it gives you the answer "20 US fluid ounces" in the results
I am trying to understand the mixing process. What is a part? Im guessing if i want to do 40 part gas to 1 part oil i would take 1 cup of oil and put it in a container and then take that same cup and fill it up 40 times to get the 40:1 ratio? Would that be an easier way?
bostnpro1 A part is a unit of fuel or oil. If your working with gallons of fuel and a 40:1 ratio of fuel to oil, than start by converting 1 gallon to ounces. We know that 1 gallon is equal to 128 ounces. Divide 128 ounces by 40 to break 1 gallon of fuel into 40 equal parts, so 128 ounces of fuel divided by 40 is equal to 3.2 ounces. So a 40:1 ratio of fuel to oil is 128 ounces of fuel to 3.2 ounces of oil, because there is 40 times more fuel than oil, or 40 parts of fuel to 1 part oil.
bostnpro1 LOL I guess if you want to spend all that time trying to fill up a gas can you could. The rest of us just use a bottle of 3.2oz oil to 1 gallon of fuel for 40:1 ratio, or a 2.6oz bottle of oil to 1 gallon of fuel for a 50:1 ratio.
So i just had a chainsaw given to me with no paperwork or anything. I bought a 3.2 ounce bottle of oil mix but how do I figure if it's a 40:1 or 50:1 mix?
What I have wondered is I know the effect stabil has on gas but what reaction (if any) does it have with the oil in pre-mixed fuel does it dilute its lubrication properties? have no effect etc.
I would like to see someone come up with a mix chart for pints = 16 oz of fuel and quarts = 32 oz. I'am tired of mixing up a gallon of fuel and next time I go to use it the stuff is sour and the engine runs bad. I use less than 16 ounces of fuel month in my weed eater 40:1 and it's really a waste of fuel. I get my fuel a a Marina and it's ethanol free at 4.99 a gal it's a waste. Good video bro nice info. Keep'em coming.
would it be possible to use plain edible mineral oil as an emergency 2-stroke oil?? some say it can be mixed with the current oil for the break in period of any engine. my engine calls for the 20:1 oil/gas ratio for the initial break in period, calls for the 40:1 after break in. i did however use a 20:1 mix of vegetable oil long after break in for a tankful with zero problems. low ash buildup on piston/dome. whats the deal with these expensive oils when they dont seem to do much more?? whats the secret in mineral oil??
Whats the adjustments for an Evo 2x Big Wheel 50cc Gas Scooter ? I would like to get one. But, I'm afraid my dyslexia might get in the way of understanding. Can you please simplify this for me. ty. oh, yeah. do I have to mix it everytime i refuel?
if you have a small premix bottle , 40 -1 using 1 gallon of gas ,,,but you need 50-1 can you use the 40-1 mix with 3/4 of a gallon and achieve a 50-1 mix
Nice explanation. However, given RUclips is global, be sure to express your units fully. That is US Gallons not Imperial (UK) Gallons as they differ in volume. I find recalculating always. So thanks for your video. John from downunder
nice mathematics I have question i know that you working with gallons and liters i m try to mix gasoline with alcohol and oil for my RC redcat how much oz amount I should used to let says i want to make 3.5 oz mix with gasoline alcohol and oil how much will be
Not uneducated and graduated 3rd in academy but this seems an attempt to make this as complicated as possible There should be simple language and formula with our math.. The metric system was forced upon the U.S. guiled and placed in plan by the media..If one would ask a proponent to show by metric lengths or depths they become dis-orientated, almost wanting to reach back for footage or inches. show us gallons vs pints and how to mix just one tank on machine .. Got it one gallon=2.6 oil or 1 gal.=128 ounces. It's just the media have played the masses with perfection.
one gallon of fuel mixed with 3.2 ounces of oil will yield a result of 40:1 fuel to oil ratio. If you only have a 2.6 bottle of oil use .8125 gallons of fuel. so; 0.82 gallons of fuel (or 0.8 gallons of fuel) lf mixed with 2.6 ounces of oil will also yield a 40:1 fuel to oil ratio. or switch to metric. 40 ML of fuel with 1 ml of oil,,,400 Ml of fuel with 10 Ml of oil,,,,,800 Ml of fuel with 20 Ml of oil 1600 Ml of fuel with 40 Ml of oil.... or.... a 2 litre soda bottle washed AND dried, with 50 Ml of oil will ALL yield a fuel to oil ratio of 40:1 50 Ml = 1.35 ounces. Good luck,,,,double check my math,,,,I will not take responsibility for any errors in my arithmetical calculations or advice....this is only a guide, not God's honest truth. I did my best, but that doesn't mean I didn't make a mistake. Good luck. If anyone would like to give feedback, I take correction and redirection very well,,,,please don't be shy, the only way I can learn is by people pointing out my mistakes or shortcomings. Thank you all....Happy Thanksgiving
+David Robitaille (robitaill3) Be careful with that 1 little bottle per gallon of gas, not all of those little bottles have the same amount of oil. Some are 2.6oz, some are 3.2oz.
1. take off the cap on the 2 stroke bottle, fill with oil, dump in the gas tank. 2. fill up tank with gas 3. go to town, those little engines have a wide tollerence. 4. If its too rich, it just smokes more but the engine is fine and its bad for the environment 5. You are cutting your lawn with a gas engine, who cares about the environment.

1:17 there you go ! Plain and simple. I sat through 3 or 4 canadian dude videos working on the decimal system ....ugh! Thanks for this video !!!!

perfect. to the point. no blasting lousy annoying music. TU
Proof that the metric system is so much better.
This is the best that I have seen, thank you.
thank you very much for this clear explanation..I was a bit confused but now I get it..good work
Very good vid. Just wanted to mention that Lawnboy had an oil injected model under engine designation of 'M'.

Have you ever used reg motor oil to blend to get u by. I know it not right just wanted your opinion.
i use yamalube right now but i like castrol 2t however i cant find it.
Hi I was wondering how do I mix oil in a 2 gallon gas can. I have the 3.2 fluid oz oil do I add 2 of those to to every 2 gallon or. What.
Very Informative Video.......Thanks

They do not need to be mixed mopeds have the oil chamber
Thank you sir, now I know the math!! Always winged it... Killed a couple trimmers along the way!!
if you have a small premix bottle , 40 -1 using 1 gallon of gas ,,,but you need 50-1 can you use the 40-1 mix with 3/4 of a gallon and achieve a 50-1 mix
25ml for 1 liter gas gives you 40:1
what is the best oil for pocket gas power bike? i need synrthic 2-stroke oil? Could quaker state in big oil cainter work
Thank you for the formula.

Thanks for watching!
Good job easy to understand thanks
if you ever need help with lawn boy id be glad to help ya!
Good Video!! I'm a Valvoline man myself. :O)
I need 24/1 with 100ml of oil to 1 liter of gas , how much oil do I add ?
nice mathematics I have question i know that you working with gallons and liters i m try to mix gasoline with alcohol and oil for my RC redcat how much oz amount I should used to let says i want to make 3.5 oz mix with gasoline alcohol and oil how much will be
what does it tell you when blue smoke comes out too much gas or too much oil? Thanks
Too much oil

Does anyone know how to make 25:1 and 16:1 gas mix ?
this work with motorized bikes?
Is this mixture for a 2 stroke bicycle kit?
+WILFREDO RAMOS The 2 stroke engines for bicycles I've seen are using a 16:1 or 20:1 ratio for the most part.
How much oil would I use per gallon for a 2005 kdx 200 2 stroke bike
You need 2.56 ounces of 2 stroke oil to mix with 1 gallon(s) of gas to get a 50:1 gas to oil ratio.
how would you make 40:1 gas using sthil oil. it has 2.6 oz of in one container.
one gallon of fuel mixed with 3.2 ounces of oil will yield a result of 40:1 fuel to oil ratio. 40 ML of fuel with 1 ml of oil,,,400 Ml of fuel with 10 Ml of oil,,,,,800 Ml of fuel with 20 Ml of oil 1600 Ml of fuel with 40 Ml of oil.... or.... a 2 litre soda bottle washed AND dried, with 50 Ml of oil will ALL yield a fuel to oil ratio of 40:1 50 Ml = 1.35 ounces. thanks for the info.
Thanks very much for that man.
What if you added too much 2 stroke oil ?, ie; 50/1 when it should be 35/1...
thanx much apreciated!
Thank you.
What determines the ratio of gasoline to oil? Example: 28cc weed trimmer
The manufacturer
is one liter to 25 ml of oil is that 40 to q
I have a 1 liter gas tank so how much oil would I need
Zohaib Ali Check out this calculator: thesmallengineshop.net/gasoilRatio.php
Zohaib Ali 40:1 is common ratio. This is how I remember: 1 little bottle of oil per gallon of gas. Exp: 3 little bottles in 3 gallons of gas
+David Robitaille (robitaill3) Be careful with that 1 little bottle per gallon of gas, not all of those little bottles have the same amount of oil. Some are 2.6oz, some are 3.2oz.
Thank you for a nice video. My brain hurts.
I ilke the premayshuered containers myself! ;)
1. take off the cap on the 2 stroke bottle, fill with oil, dump in the gas tank.
2. fill up tank with gas
3. go to town, those little engines have a wide tollerence.
4. If its too rich, it just smokes more but the engine is fine and its bad for the environment
5. You are cutting your lawn with a gas engine, who cares about the environment.
get your self a ratio cup problem solved
You will never see an auto mixing system on power equipment, gravity only works one way, down.
would prob work on a smartphone too if you have one
So basicaly 2.2 oz of mix to 1 gallon of gas for 50:1?..
2.56 ounces of 2 stroke oil to mix with 1 gallon of gas to get a 50:1 gas to oil ratio. A gallon might be a different amount in Europe.
5 liter gas mixed 2 stroke oil 50:1..only 2% oil mixed
understand who
cant for get about the cursed lawn boy M and its oil injection!!
i always mix 20 liters all the time,so this dont apply to me..lol
Young yobaa
meisur
lol
the way he pronounces measure is just irritating
thanx much apreciated!
