Your review didn't disappoint however I'm surprised you didn't cry while watching it to quote a song "my heart is cold and hard and petrified" and even I did.
The manga was a bit more clear about it, she was working as a prostitute to pay her debts, but she really wanted to buy her daughter a nice dress as a gift for her birthday, but it led her to miss the deadline for her payment.
@@BROWNSMAGIC Another thing that isn’t well known is the stigmatization of single mothers in Japan. It mostly applies to women who wind up pregnant from a man they aren’t married to, but it’s been known to happen even in cases of the husband passing away as well. A lot of them end up disowned by their families, and have trouble finding work because a lot of the childcare facilities require two parents to accommodate the child. Leading these single mothers to have little recourse or opportunity to find work. This is likely why she was in debt and working as a prostitute to make ends meet. It was showcasing the very real stigma and hardship that many single mothers face in japan. A lot do get help, but not all. It’s a pretty big issue over there.
@@AesirUnlimited wowwwww that makes it all the more tragic. And so do you think that woman died the night her daughter was taken and Aira interacted with her ghost? Or did she survive those wrist cuts and was just walking around all bloody like that?
@@BROWNSMAGIC That’s another thing that the anime made a bit less clear in favour of artistic license. But the scene where she jumped off the roof was immediately after her daughter was taken, then her despair and negative emotions turned her into a yokai upon her death. The scene with Aira was unique to the anime, but it’s almost certainly while she had become a ghost. We don’t know how long she was a ghost at the time though, but it was long enough that she had started to forget her daughter, so maybe a few years or a decade at least.
@@BROWNSMAGIC Also another clarification in the manga they've shown a panel at the end of Aira's guide them to a kinder world speech they showed a panel of acrobatic silky and her daughter moving on to the afterlife together so she is confirmed dead.
Sorry for posting a lot but clarification yes she did do that kind of work at night while also working multiple jobs during the day to pay off I'm assuming the Yakuza
Clarification acrobatic silky is not the mother Aira's mother died separately while she was very young also the little girl from the flashback is dead the manga makes it clear.
Clarification she did die the night the daughter was taken. The manga made it clear she jumped off a roof the anime also implies that but it's a blink and you miss it moment.

I was really close ngl but ig I was more triggered by the POV so it made me anxious more than sad
Thanks for reviewing this show. It totally mirrors my experience watching for the first time 😂

Okay so that’s why they kept showing the envelope with the money getting thinner and thinner
