It's for rural areas.. everyone keeps going on and on about ditching Comcast or Charter or what ever.. no.. you can't.
If you're in an area that has broadband, you won't get this service.
Odds are, they'll do like current satellite services do, and check your zip code, see if wired services exist, and then they will tell you it's not available in your area.
Everyone needs to get it out of their head that they can get this anywhere they live even cities.. no.. you can't.

It's for rural areas, especially in the US.
The US is sorely undeserved, because ISPs refuse to expand outside of cities.
There MIGHT be a few areas in the EU as well which wired services do not reach.

Starlink isnt going to replace the internet we use today atleast for now cus in urban areas it's too dense to even really work well so it's gonna change the way rural people get connected but I highly doubt it's suitable to replace Comcast any time soon but ig we will see (me wanting to replace current Comcast bc throttling but realizing in in a dense area)

I fear that 1 gig speed is a little misleading. Elon has said a few times already that his service is designed for sparsely populated areas. That means they probably designed each satellite to handle an average 1 gig per X amount of customers per satellite. For example if they calculate that 100 per people per satellite with average usage will allow for 1 gig availability on average then they can say 1 gig is available but if u try to do the same thing over a city with 2 million or even 3 hundred thousand it may break down like a cell tower in a crowed stadium where the node becomes overwhelmed.
