Yes Eva was from DC area and this is THIS Blues Alley. Her cover of Over the Rainbow reinvented this classic and the new generation is now singing it that way. But Eva’s version ins the absolute reference. She did the same with many other classics: Fields of Gold, Autumn Leaves, … The manager of Blues Alley told they have hosted some of the greatests but that Eva was something else, the staff was in shock from the first notes and staring at each other in disbelief. She sang in duet with Chuck Brown , the go-go godfather, and he told in an interview that she showed him how to sing Jazz and Blues, that he never met such a natural and creative talent. Eva sadly passed away only 10 months after this video recording. She was rediscovered a few years later when Over the Rainbow was played in the BBC in UK and it created such a buzz that her records when directly at the top of the charts and matched record sales that were only reached by The Beatles previously. Eva is one of a kind.
Thank you for saying this. Eva was spectacular, and did not get the wide recognition that others received. It’s such a shame that she died young…the world missed out on so much when she left this earth.

We all know Eva was a great singer. But I don't want anyone to forget that she was a great arranger ( a skill many don't appreciate ). She was a very capable guitarist. She had a great band. Keith Grimes on lead & Lenny Williams on keyboards. And I believe that Chris Biando put all this together to allow us to see her incredible gift to music.
T Bone Walker and Bobby "Blue" Band's versions were generally regarded as the definitive recordings of Stormy Monday. But wow, Eva took the roof off the place with this live performance. Utterly incredible, so different from her soft, sensitive versions of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Fields of Gold. If you closed your eyes you would swear the voice belonged to a black lady, truly amazing. Also kudos to Keith Grimes for a tasteful, beautifully constructed guitar solo. So sad that Eva was taken from us just as she was making waves in the music world. At least we have these few recordings to enjoy as her legacy.
Blues Alley, DC. Not much recorded by Eva, too bad she had a cold when this was done, she wasn’t satisfied with the concert. The labels didn’t like that she refused to stick to a certain formula but did the songs she liked. She passed away in melanoma before she reached a larger audience. Some other songs: Fields of Gold, Songbird, Over the Rainbow. Or just anyone you can find, she never misses.
One take, live, and she had to pay for the recording, the album finally got air play two years after she died. Eva didn't live out the year this was recorded and couldn't get a record contract.....life isn't fair. To hear her full range check out the high energy Blues in the Night
