The lamp shade ties the whole design together.
This lamp could be part of a high-priced designer apartment in a real estate catalog.
Nice to have a shirt in your signature hair color. 😜
I like how your projects usually don't require super fancy materials or tools and turn out unique and often high-end looking in the end.

Independent of the finished lamp, which I happen to really like, this is a good technique video - or techniques!
If making another, would you drill the board first before routing, risking less rework if it went wrong?

This is gorgeous! 😍 It looks like the original picture is from a lamp listed on Amazon as “PUFEIDS Living Room Table Lamp”. I wonder if it might be easier to drill that middle top hole before doing the radius and round over to have a square edge to reference. Love this project!

A great "step by step" video for a cool lamp! Quick question, is there a reason why you couldn't use the forster bit before you rounded over edges? I would feel more confident using it first into a flat surface!

    Lovely lamp!
It seems like it would be a bit simpler to drill the hole for the stem before doing the rounding. I also think just fitting the lamp cord into this before the final glue up would work well and make that step a bit easier as well.
But your process worked and you did make a beautiful lamp!

I love chunky round overs so much, very nice work! I’d love to see more builds with that stunning 3/4” round over! Btw wouldn’t colored or clear acrylic work instead of the blinds?! Colored or clear acrylic in thin enough sheets not only can be cut like most acrylic with the tablesaw or scored many times with a sharp box cutter, better yet it can be formed permanently into shapes or bends using heat! Make a block of wood in the shape or with the right curve as a blank or a form, heat up the acrylic with a heating gun and bend it to your wood blank! It’d be stunning in multiple colors or just one but either way after applying each curved strip of acrylic to another with acrylic glue… you have a one of a kind, permanent or long lasting lamp shade or art that no one else will have! Check out David over on Make Something here on YT as he cuts and makes custom colored acrylic and wood lamps and also has a project where he heat bends custom pencil holders out of these vibrant acrylics. Fascinating and would go beautifully with your lamp which I have to try myself but perhaps with hickory and an array of acrylic colors as a lamp shade… we’ll see

Mill the hole for the pipe fitting and the cord slot before the round over and bull nose. Square edges are easier to work with. And if you screw up you have not wasted the work. This was a real treat of a project

    • @jewdd1989
      @jewdd1989 8 месяцев назад

Great idea but there’s a problem with drilling out the large mortise prior to routing her large round over which is the bearing can and most likely will fall into the hole causing the rounded edge to dip in messing up the perfect rounded over profile. The bearing follows the edge exactly so any imperfection, divots, bumps and in this case hole will be matched if the bearing rides exactly where the mortise is (I assume it will because the round over is large and so is the mortise) as it cuts with this type of router bit. One way around that is to use a perfectly fitting dowel (cut to match the shape of her rounded edge) pop it in and then proceed in routing this 3/4” round over. I know this because I made this mistake with a build and unfortunately the bearing followed a mortise I had made prior to routing an edge profile and it can’t be fixed easily or hidden. Tamar on 3x3 Custom explains this exact issue on her video of making her beautiful end grain cutting board when she decided to wait to add her large round over till after routing out the handle shapes into both ends of the cutting board and after she mortised a groove for her brass inlays. Luckily she caught herself before it ruined her handles

And you asked so, most of the rental homes I have lived in, since the 90's, in Australia, still have vertical blinds! 2 sliding doors in my current house. They are a revolting pinkish peachy colour that doesn't quite match the paint, but it's close. What's the modern alternative to covering sliding doors?? Vertical blinds obviously allow light through when turned, unlike curtains that are either open or closed!

Nice lamp. We had vertical blinds in our last house but not since we moved 3 years ago. That was a groove, not a dado. A dado is across the grain and a groove is with the grain.

Maybe you should have cut the mortise before rounding the edges of the board??
Also, I don't understand why you didn't just thread the Electrical cord through to start with? Was it because you didn't want to get spray on it?

The topic of the video title begins around 13:00. It was a long wait to get to the topic I wanted to watch. It's very admirable that this woman can do this wood working, but not relevant to what I wanted to watch. I think the wood working part would've been better to have in a separate video.
