The grin on your face during the test drive made me smile. I know you have to be giddy that you finally got to this point. Your perseverance is paying off. And who doesn’t love the sound of that turbo spooling up? Anything special with the driveshaft - HD u-joints, special tubing, etc? I was expecting something beefier looking. I’m still hoping for a 4x4 mod, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy whatever direction you decide to take this project.
Thanks! It's more exciting than I can even begin to explain! The driveshaft is just a basic setup, nothing very special or HD. I'm not too worried because shes still under 200hp. But once I start getting closer to 300-350hp I'll be looking into better stuff. But I'm also hoping /planning for a 4x4 conversion! I got a few things in mind that I'm doing some research on to see what we can whip up for Bessie, but it probably wont be anytime super soon unfortunately. But you're definitely thinking in the right direction! Thanks for the support!

Congrats on a successful mission!!!! Nothing like that first ride after all the wrenching. I remember my first build. Still makes me smile 30 years later.
So, that square block that you pulled off the firewall is actually a "sandwich block". One part of it bolts to the front of the firewall and the other part bolts to the inside of the firewall on the inside of the cab. And it sandwiches the firewall in between it, hence the name "sandwich block". The inside sandwich block connects to the wiring harnesses inside the cab and the external sandwich block wires up to the battery and all the terminals inside the truck. I just tore apart my 1st Gen. Dodge and it took me forever to realize what that did.

I've watched this truck build from the first video I think it's probably the coolest build I've seen on RUclips in a long time if I was going to build a truck I would have probably built a square body Chevy also. I think my dream truck would be a 73 Chevy or GMC with a 5 9 Cummins and the standard transmission I think that's why I enjoyed this build Series so much. I'm a new subscriber.

Man I love your videos!! I’m currently in a square body swap myself and before I started tackling any of it I decided to RUclips some videos. I bought a 1989 gmc 6000( 2 ton grain truck). Put the cab and front clip on a shorter wheel base 1 ton frame. Im about ready to start test fitting the 12 valve and nv4500 in it. I’m not putting a bed on it just some polished and clear coat steel to give it that clean look. Hide a way gooseneck ball. Dual miter cut smoke stacks and I’m picking up some fuel tanks off a semi tomorrow for it. I’m so freaking stoked!
It depends if it is a gm nv4500 or a dodge nv4500. Once you know that, "Advance Adapters" sells adapter plates and bellhousing kits for pretty much every combo. Average price looks to be between $250-$500 depending on the configuration
It’s a year bit too late but for future reference on the clutch pedal set up. There’s a booster kit that still allows you to use an 84-91 k20-30 and 84-87 k10 hydraulic assembly that takes 5 minutes to drop in. I used one on my cummins swap c10 about 3-4 years ago and the hardest part was punching out the hole in my 76. But was still easy to get done

I highly doubt that long term the radiator will survive without a expansion tank but there is space on the front of the grill if it ain't too hoaky for you. I can't believe the prices that people will pay for hoods I through in the trash. So congrats to this custom build that most won't touch..... are you related to the man mentioned>??? Thanks for making these awesome videos buddy. I'm at the tail end of my Cummins swap into my 78 C20 I converted to 4x4. What slave cylinder kit did you go with on rockauto? I bought one for the 95 donor truck I used but it didn't come with bolts that would allow me to attach it to the fire wall. It looks like it slides in and twist locks somehow.

If you grind the paint off is what you're welding it bonds better. I had a idea cut the front off of bessies old hood and make Bessie a rat rod themed sun visor lol
Anything new going on these days, Chuck? Just curious. Finally got my Cummins installed and running in my 98 K3500. Still needs a cooling system and intercooler, but it's getting there. I keep watching your vids to stay motivated to get my truck on the road!
Congrats on getting it on the road! I've really been enjoying the series, I might've missed it somewhere but what are you doing for an alternator? Stock one with a regulator added? Or a stock chevy one modified to fit on the motor? Or maybe an aftermarket one? Thanks, about to start the swap on my 1962 chevy k10 and just collecting all the pieces right now
Thank you! I'm running a stock dodge alternator for the 1996 ram 2500, and it's been converted to a single wire output with an internal regulator added. If you get the stock alternator from a parts store, an alternator shop will usually do the conversion for you for fairly cheap. Good luck on your swap and keep me posted! I'd love to see how it turns out!
Fun fact: the pin on the clutch pedal that the push rod attaches to is the same as the Dodge Ram. I know this because I did the nv4500 in my truck. The clutch pedal is easier to install if it's a chevy pedal set, but it still sucks.
Honestly better than I thought it would. However it would probably be smart of me to replace the bushings and tierod ends just to be safe (they're still factory originals) but for now the frame and suspension are holding up great!
@@trojankid4252 I honestly dont really know. I'd have to say just put it in the c10 itself. If you try to match the chevy body to the dodge frame I feel like you're gonna have a ton of fitment issues with body gaps and things like that. Plus you would have to adapt all the brake lines to fit a chevy master cylinder and dodge brake calipers. It seems like no matter what you're gonna have a decent amount of adapting and fabricating to do. But it just depends on what kind of fab you want to do; cosmetic fab (body mounts, front clip, bed frame and mounts, etc) or mechanical fab (engine mounts, crossmembers, frame boxing, etc). Either way, I'd be more than happy to help in anyway that I can if you get stuck on something along the way.
Ok I’m coming straight out of high school planning on doing this to my truck. Is it worth it. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 and I want a 12v in it. Is it worth the money and work?
I honestly wouldn't really know. Given the fact that it's not only a different make, but a much newer truck as well, I don't think it would be as simple as my swap was. You're going to have to deal with the existing computers, different sized engine bay, possibly a less robust frame and suspension, etc.. I think you would be better off just buying a Dodge with a factory Cummins. But that's just my uneducated opinion. For all I know it could be even easier than my swap lol but I don't have any experience with those trucks to give you a solid answer. All I can say is, if you have the desire, I believe you can make anything happen, and you have my full support. But if you're worried about wether it's financially worth it in the long run, it's honestly really hard to say, but I don't think it would be.
Might look at a 24 valve commonrail so you can used a wiring harness out of a dodge 2500 or 3500 cummins diesel. And also find a set of 3/4 ton axles cause the half ton axles just won't last long on it
X_fxnesse_X 2k I'd look into it deeper. A 12v in a 1500 is usually too much for the components in the truck. If you look at Deboss garage's channel he knows all about swapping a 12v and he made a vid talking about when he would and wouldn't do swaps.
Unfortunately not for this project. Having ripped out and rerouted so many wires, I'd be better off getting a whole new harness and starting over lol but I'll see what I can do about retrofitting some aftermarket gauges into a factory panel if theres any interest!
Thanks! Right now I believe it's getting about 25mpg city. Im not sure what the highway mpg is because I don't take it on the interstate enough to get any good calculations
Manual is just all around better for me. I think they're fun to drive, no computers, and easier to rebuild if the need ever arises. The brake system is 100% brand new, and it's been working great for over 1000 miles so far!
I wish I kept mine lol I was so quick to tear mine out (and destroy it in the process) and now standing back looking at it, I think it would have fit just fine lol
@@nathanvictorson3353 never had it in the first place, so nothing for me to really miss. I would like to do a 4x4 conversion sometime in the future though

Well thanks anyways ✌🏼
Great channel! Dude your awesome!
Lol thanks man!
Fun fact: the pin on the clutch pedal that the push rod attaches to is the same as the Dodge Ram. I know this because I did the nv4500 in my truck. The clutch pedal is easier to install if it's a chevy pedal set, but it still sucks.
This guy totally reminds me of the guy from the Netflix show "You"
Know this is a older video but what power steering pump are you running. I have a 94 k2500 that is 12v swapped but running into ps issues
The ps pump is from a 1996 dodge 2500
@@ChucksCustoms thanks for quick reply. I'm using a 97 which is same. Thanks
No prob!
Bravo sir!!!
Thank you!
How’s your frame holding up with the extra weight?
Honestly better than I thought it would. However it would probably be smart of me to replace the bushings and tierod ends just to be safe (they're still factory originals) but for now the frame and suspension are holding up great!
ChucksCustoms I’m thinking of doin a swap like this. And I was wondering whether to put a c10 body on a dodge frame or just out it in the c10 itself?
What rear axle does your truck have ? And do you happen to know the gear ratio?
Right now it has a 12 bolt rear, and im not 100% sure but I believe it has a 2.73 ratio
Thank you.
I need some help, I'm trying to swap my 4 speed on my Chevy Silverado dually to a nv4500. What do I need, no one around me seems to know
Dope! #Besty "If you think my hair is stupid" lmao
😂
And also find a set of 3/4 ton axles cause the half ton axles just won't last long on it
Ok thank yall
@@glossy_5.3 no problem
X_fxnesse_X 2k I'd look into it deeper. A 12v in a 1500 is usually too much for the components in the truck. If you look at Deboss garage's channel he knows all about swapping a 12v and he made a vid talking about when he would and wouldn't do swaps.
That was Awsome..!!!
Lol thanks!
do happen to have a part number for that master cylinder slave cylinder setup?
Go to rock auto and search this part number: 13667514
@@ChucksCustoms thanks dude.
@@tinsano6030 anytime!
What kind of work do you do for a living
I'm a carpenter right now, but hopefully I'll be able to say "full time youtube mechanic" pretty soon here lol
Sweeeeeet. Plans on rewiring a factory dash?
Unfortunately not for this project. Having ripped out and rerouted so many wires, I'd be better off getting a whole new harness and starting over lol but I'll see what I can do about retrofitting some aftermarket gauges into a factory panel if theres any interest!
Thanks you helped me learn how to put a hydraulic clutch in my 78 c20👌 #mint
Glad I could help!
Dig your videos man!
I appreciate it!
What do you do for a living??
@@aaronhobart4249 right now I'm a Carpenter, but I want to be a machinist someday!
That is a half ton truck correct?
Yes
Love truck 😍😎 what mgp city/hw cummins 6bt. GOOOD VIDEO.
Thanks! Right now I believe it's getting about 25mpg city. Im not sure what the highway mpg is because I don't take it on the interstate enough to get any good calculations
Why a manuel and not a auto rh47.?? And are going to put better brake on her
Manual is just all around better for me. I think they're fun to drive, no computers, and easier to rebuild if the need ever arises. The brake system is 100% brand new, and it's been working great for over 1000 miles so far!
I absolutely love the build, I want to do something very similar. (My only difference is I want air conditioning😂)
I wish I kept mine lol I was so quick to tear mine out (and destroy it in the process) and now standing back looking at it, I think it would have fit just fine lol
ChucksCustoms Do you miss not having 4x4?
@@nathanvictorson3353 never had it in the first place, so nothing for me to really miss. I would like to do a 4x4 conversion sometime in the future though
That's was fucking awesome 👍🤓
Could we have a update on Bessie?
I'm going to try and put one out this weekend 👍
