Black Eyed Peas will probably be remembered for all time for their 2003 single with Justin Timberlake, the amazing “Where is the love?”, the song which for many perfectly captured the mood of sombre post 9/11 America. It took the band from the level of hugely well respected and successful alternative hip hop group to a level of mainstream success that they could never have imagined. Turning the album Elefunk into one of the recording sensations of the year, and picking up MTV and Grammy awards as if it were for fun. Sweeter still the their success came at a relatively late point in their career, Elefunk was their current album at a regular as a refreshing alternative to hip hop’s more fashionable tough gangster image. They even had one failed incarnation behind them as a tribe called Nation, an earlier alignment that had been signed earlier with Easi E to his ruthless record label and which featured founding members ‘Will I am and Apple D....’.
