It's really sad that Blizzard never gave the Furbolg a redemptive storyline. Playing Warcraft 3, you get the impression that prior to the Burning Legion's invasion of Ashenvale, the Furbolgs were close allies of the Night Elves, and their corruption was such a big theme of northern Kalimdor in Vanilla WoW. I really wish there had been quests and ongoing stories to make the Furbolg's a kind of unofficial Alliance/Night Elf race, a bit like some ogres are for Horde, or better yet, like the Dryads and Ancients for the Night Elves.
Haven't played WoW in so, so many years, but I still love watching these videos. I don't remember my gear, or what the numbers on my fancy rare belt were, but I do remember all the pointless things. Some of the stuff I loved most about this game.
I always felt bad killing furbolgs, they've had it pretty rough. They're only hostile because they've either been corrupted by demonic magic or because they're traumatized from dealing with demonic magic.
6:38 Azuremyst Isle is my favorite zone in the game. It's beautiful in a kind of alien, ethereal way, and it has the absolute best ambient music of any zone. It's just a really relaxing place full of potential pointless top ten placements. I'm sure Crendor must have already done a top ten fishing spots... but the little "river" between the starting level 1-5 area and the rest of the zone is my favorite spot to fish.
I really hope that Alliance get Furbolg in the future. Maybe they could do a revamp of Azuremist Isle while they're at it and show the Stillpine now prospering alongside the Draenei and they then decide they have recovered enough with the help of the Draenei that they join the Alliance. Would be pretty awesome.
Fun fact, the rod is given to the player before they accept the quest. If you don't autopilot and never even take the quest at the stone in the first place, you get to keep the rod and not have a dead quest in your quest log!
Biggest thing I love with the Winterpelt is their language is cross-faction in /say and /yell, and available to anyone who goes and does the short grind to cap it out. It's a fully accessible means to communicate across the faction language barrer, and I think the first time an additional language has been available to permanently 'learn' in game, to anyone.
No Teldrassian furbolgs? Such a shame. One of my first memories of WoW was getting lost in Ban'ethil Barrow Den and being unable to find my way out. Good memories...
Just started playing Classic and made a night elf, I was in there with another guy and thankfully my memory of decades ago saved us a lot of time running around and getting lost. Still brutal for a low level area!
So I just discovered your videos and have been binging the hell out of them. I've worked in video games for a decade, and your videos showcase what I love the most about game development. You highlight these little details, whether it's interesting environment art, environmental storytelling, or small little narrative choices that would seem like a waste of time for a developer to put in, but you show how these little things can add such depth to the world and create curiosity in it's players. We see so many negative videos tearing games apart these days, so seeing a ton of videos praising the little things does make it feel worth it.

Furbolgs are just peak Warcraft imo. There's just something about Furbolgs that make me feel idk, at home? I'm not sure how to explain it but I always get happy whenever we go to a Furbolg area.
What's cool about the Winterpelts is that you actually can learn and speak Furbolg after their questline, which is one of the only methods to communicate with another faction players (if they also can speak Furbolg)
I remember one thing I and guildies would do : the Timbermaw Hold Death run! Basically get a lower level character to the Felwood side and see how far we could make it through. Back then they attacked, now they just do nothing.
The failed world tree that is Grizzlemaw is actually the primary reason why the Emerald Nightmare exists in the first place. As Crendor said. The roots went so deep that it touched Yoggys Prison, and through that interaction. He was able to reach into the emerald dream and corrupt a portion of it, turning it into the nightmare that we know today.
I know some hidden lore about the Furbolgs. I thought I'd include these tidbits here. 1) Inside Timbermaw Hold, a path leads down to a wooden blockade covered in claw marks. This can be found in both Classic and Retail WoW. It is unknown what it was ever meant to be. While Furbolg are often on a discussion for Alliance race candidates, they often were the unpopular picks, and especially fell off with the Pandaren being playable. A similar entrance is near the Blackmaw camp in Azshara, suggesting it's a location under Hyjal. 2) The Drogbar, as they exist in retail, are a re-design. The original intent was a Furbolg variant, that explained their origins more, and were the "ancient Furbolg, but different" referenced in the War of the Ancients novels. Art for the original design was in the Legion Artbook. As a nod to it, the new Furbolg models in Dragonflight used the Drogbar animation skeleton. 3) Ursin is a realm in the US. All realm names are WoW related. There is no Ursin that we know of in World of Warcraft - the bear wild gods are Ursoc and Ursol. It might have been a misspelling of Ursine, the Furbolg language. Season of Discovery recently added Idol of Ursin Power, which is its first official reference. There is some speculation Ursin might have had a larger role that's not happened yet, such as another bear wild god, but Blizzard has never clarified.
I really have to wonder if Blizzard was considering adding Tuskarr and Furbolgs as playable races in an earlier draft of Dragonflight. They certainly setup the lore for both and I could absolutely see Belameth as a starting zone area for Furbolg heroes.
I actually think I would play WoW again if they made a "pre-sundering", a completely new game; and actually worked with people and other game creators/companies to make it good. 2004 wow was so clean, but unpolished and gameplay was better than many of the 2014-2024... including the retail, that's so tiring to even watch for an old man.
I still find Ursoc so sad. Gets corrupted multiple times and we have to kill him multiple times. And when he's finally in his seed for rebirth thinking that we finally got rid over everything that could corrupt him again and can finally lead a normal life, the Winter Queen decides to sacrifice him permanently.
While I think there won't be a fourth update on the furbolg models, I do think Blizz went wrong direction with the Dragonisle ones. They just made them into bear-man-gorillas with five fingers! Five! Buuuuuut, I guess they can use the same reasoning as with the centaurs over there, they are distant cousins with little in common with the continental furbolgs.
And then, having saved Ursoc's sprit twice, his spirit traveled to Ardenweald, to slumber until it was time for him to be reborn. Until his anima was drained by Aralon at the order of the Winter Queen and his spirit was destroyed forever. Gee, I wonder why people get so mad about Shadowlands.
I remember exchanging OC backstories on an RP server and absolutely losing my shit and immediately feeling bad when a friend told me his OC's family was massacred by corrupted furbolgs... and that is all I think of at first when anyone talks about them lmao
Since I learned furbolg language from winterpelt now my tauren speaks taurahe, orcish and furbolg that's kinda cool haha very underrated aspect of an adventure game
Obviously, quests are just content for players to do, but the fact that they made the uncorrupted blackmaw tribe leader to be completely idiotic is kind of unfortunate. In Burning crusade, the Alliance gets a quest in zangarmarsh to attempt to "save" a lost ones encampment. The feralfen tribe, worshipped arakoa, so the dranei quest giver was all like, ok, lets make you a spirit of the arakoa and trick the feralfen into being chill. It didnt work. The elder was like, no fucking way our spirit will tell us to be friendly with the dranei, promptly called us fakes, and then said that they just wanted to be left alone, and allowed us to walk away in peace. Yet the furlbogs, nah they get treated like this.

There are a lot of unique quests there as well. The zone deserves more love.
Azuremyst Isle music is my go-to tune for falling asleep to. Makes me feel so at peace and drift off, not a thought nor care in the world.

A shout out to Dartol's Rod of Transformation. people would start the quest but not finish it so the could turn into a furbolg every once and a while.

I love Furbolgs! Winterspring is one of if not my favourite zone and I have such vivid memories of taking their tunnel down from Felwood to get there.
