      Hey Heath!
      Have you heard anything about issues with The Boogens 4K release? I just received my copy and honestly haven't even opened it yet, because it sounds like (from online reports, so grain of salt) there are issues with the master they used. No worries if you have no info, but I know you may have a contact there. :)
      Take care.

    ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW is one of my absolute favorite examples of film noir. I've watched it more times than I can count. In addition to the top-notch cast, I love the location shooting in NYC and upstate New York (where the bank heist takes place), as it perfectly captures a very real late 1950s atmosphere. I plan to buy this new re-release if only to get the new extras added to it.

    Kino-Lorber is the best. The reason is the sheer number of great releases and also because of the number of audio commentary tracks released with their films.

    Out of all these titles, the thing I am most stoked to check out is the John Alton book you recommended. I do film photography and love finding older books on the subject that I haven't encountered yet. Thanks Heath!

    Not seeing anything that really pops the cork for me this month(*)
    But I'm still working through a stack of Kino releases I recently purchased, and each one is a gem of presentation. I love these guys. A friend of mine dropped me a line as soon as he saw "The Road to Hong Kong" was arriving - (*) that's one I'm likely to go for myself, especially after hearing extras had been added to the disc. Hope to see more former Olive titles start sliding in the Kino release schedule. The out-of-print resurrections are always wonderful news. Thanks, Kino! And thanks for all the reporting, Heath

    Always enjoy these Kino Lorber updates. Man, there were a lot of blu-ray reissues this month (originally released by KL, Olive, and ClassicFlix). Don Rickles was in RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP.

    I'll probably pick up Road to Hong Kong next time I place a Kino order. I have the original release from Olive, but this will put my "Road To" collection into a bit more order, having them all from Kino :) Boogens looks like a fun one as well, might grab a copy. Thanks, Heath!

    The Star Trek episode is "Balance of Terror", and, yes, Mark Lenard (i.e. Spock's father and Urko in the TV version of "Planet of the Apes") played the Romulan Commander.

    I look forward to your move to do diverse topics too ! Like yourself I love comics and music !! Along with Cherry Red for old music reissues , Madfish is another favorite for complete catalog music box sets . The main labels do good work too , but the music boutique labels are also good (just like for movies / home media.)
    Kino keeps doing amazing work with new editions and new reissues of prior catalog releases.
    To circle back to run silent run deep / Star Trek ….. Balance of Terror (and I think Run Silent) featured “evil” captains who weren’t evil , but dutiful to their nations - but realized the folly of war and regret of being adversaries to opposing military leaders they had enormous respect for ….. while having to control overzealous/ overly patriotic subordinates.
    I’ve been debating getting Run Silent new reissue for my dad ( a huge WW2 fan ….. he has a lot of WW2 films , mainly on dvd …… he has this already , and doesn’t care whether he has the most recent updated version.)

    The Boogens is really fun. I learned about it from Good Bad Flicks and was able to pick up the Olive realese. Im interested to hear how the picture looks on these.

    • @CerealAtMidnight
      @CerealAtMidnight  9 месяцев назад +1

      The picture on The Boogens is a little soft, but that's inherent in the source elements. Daylight shots look a little sharper than night shots, which is often a characteristic of film. The whole thing does look very filmic and is a moderate upgrade over 1080p HD. Lower budget movies often bear some of these characteristics, even in UHD.
      Kindergarten Cop looks fantastic. Effects shots and composite shots, such as the credits, are a little soft, but most of the film looks crisp, clear, very filmic, and the Dolby Vision HDR adds a nice depth of color that doesn't seem revisionist, but adds to the film.

    Hey Bro. I’m having hard time buying my movies 🍿 lately. I’m having hard time organizing everything in my memory. Like a few days ago I got like 40 titles and I apparently bought a movie that I already had. 😳 are there any apps you can recommend that I can download and know what I have and don’t have. By the way the dvd sleeve covers was such a great idea. It’s working for me.

    I hope Kindergarten Cop was handled well. I've only purchased one BD title from Kino Lorber and that was "Career Opportunities". Previously I only had the DVD in 4:3 pan & scan :(.
    I was very disappointed in Kino Lorber "Career Opportunities" because the lip sync was clearly off / out of sync. Very hard to enjoy like that. Otherwise, the KL release looked really good.

    • @CerealAtMidnight
      @CerealAtMidnight  9 месяцев назад +4

      I've watched that Career Opportunities disc several times and never noticed any sync issues or heard anyone else talking about them either. You're probably noticing ADR dialogue that was post-synced into certain scenes that had poor audio.
      Kindergarten Cop looks great. It's imperfect (film is an imperfect medium) but the movie has never looked or sounded so good on home media.

    For the most part Heath, Kino puts out great releases but sometimes they REALLY screw up like with To Live and Die in La. The 2.0 audio track is abysmal!!!

    • @CerealAtMidnight
      @CerealAtMidnight  9 месяцев назад +1

      This is the first I've heard anyone complain about the audio on To Live and Die In L.A., and in fact, most people have lots of praise for it. There's also a 5.1 track.
      I'm not sure what's up with all the "Kino Lorber screwed up" comments from fans these days. These distributors get the elements directly from the licensor/studio.

    • @garymoviefan4294
      @garymoviefan4294 9 месяцев назад +2

      The 5.1 track isn't great either. The 4k transfer is hit and miss. Scratches and dirt. Maybe from the source. The DVD and Arrow blu ray are better and the best and truest audio is only to be found on the Image laserdisc.

      @griffredux9966 9 месяцев назад +3

      It does come with a blu in the 4K package. You can always wait until a sale and get it for about $18 as well. At least that way you have both in case you ever upgrade.

    • @CerealAtMidnight
      @CerealAtMidnight  9 месяцев назад +1

    • @CerealAtMidnight
      @CerealAtMidnight  9 месяцев назад +3

      I would encourage you to always give the distributors you enjoy the benefit of the doubt. They love the movies as much as we do, and if there's money to be made, they're going to try to make it. Kindergarten Cop just got a Blu-ray release from Universal in 2019 and you can bet conversations were had behind closed doors about Universal not outsourcing a film they so recently issued on Blu-ray. Universal doesn't want to compete with themselves. But since they had no plans to release a 4K, they let Kino Lorber license it. It's amazing that there's a Blu-ray included, all things considered.
