I know you were probably asking just as a joke, but the D&D nerd in me cant resist answering: So the first Gnoll was created by the demon lord known as Yeenoghu. Yeenoghu is always hungry and always on the hunt, and his main goal is to pretty much eat everything that exists. So he created the gnolls, who are cursed so that whenever they eat, their food is teleported into Yeenoghu’s stomach. It’s pretty gruesome but also if I have to be honest pretty amazing and very metal. Yeenoghu power wise is on the same scale as Lolth and Orcus from this set, two other demon lords.
I literally paused the video to come to the comments and explain how fuckin' metal gnolls are, especially that this guy is a Demon Fang, the chosen of Yeenoghu.

Do you get to kill this in DND? Well, you get to try. Tiamat is the strongest official monster in dnd and has challenge rating 30, meaning it should take a party of level 30 adventurers to kill Tiamat without dying. Unfortunately, the max level is 20...
One question, and let me preface it with a compliment: While I respect y’all’s stance on ‘Uniqueness’ with regards to rating them with usefulness in mind, my question is that if new cards come out that make certain cards much more useful, would y’all go back and adjust your ratings? Do your ratings of older cards update every new set with this in mind?
with Acererak you don´t want to complete tomb of annihilation, you venture into another dungeon he goes back to your hand, you play again to venture again. so you can either take advantage of the mad mage dungeon and get free stuff or the mine to drain everyone, his deck would have a focus on reducing it´s cost yso you can play him over and over again.
I still think having these signpost uncommons be legendary is exhausting.... gimmie my baloth nulls and river hoopoes back wotc. It was cool in dominaria and immediately got old after that.
Grazilaxx's ability is the card Cunning Evasion. It's actually a really good card because if they double block your creature and it dies, you return it to your hand instead
43:37 Throwing a token (Myr or whatever) away for a Sol Ring, Skull Clamp, Altar of Brood, Codex Shredder, Esper Sentinel and much more. Oswald is awesome.
How could you say that drizzt coming from the "Underground" and his eyes adjusted is about it for LORE!!! Have you never heard of R.A. Salvatore? Drizzt is in like 60 novels man! Lore out the ass!
44:00 Fiddlebender just means he can play a fiddle. As a D & D gnome that would be part of a really long family name that wouldn't fit on a magic card.
There are like 30 novels around drizzt, he was supposed to be sacrificed at birth but basically lucked out of it at the last second when one of his brothers killed the other, he then graduated top of his class at the warrior school in his city, he lived alone in exile for years in the underdark, he's slayed demons, traveled between planes, been blessed by his god, hunted pirates, helped bruenor battlehammer reclaim his childhood home that was lost during a duregar (deep dwelling dwarf) raid. And oh so much more. He's even an unlockable character in neverwinter nights 2 If memory serves. If you guys like fantasy novels you should pick up the legend of drizzt books by R.A. Salvatore. Also drizzt ends up wielding icingdeath in the novel, it's a scimetar found in the treasure horde of Icingdeath after wulfgar killed it.
Icingdeath can be fixed by changing two things: 1. ) Change the LTB to an ETB so it's flickerable 2. ) Make the artifact either non-legendary or allow a uniquely specific number of them (kinda like how Seven Dwarves allows exactly seven copies), with perhaps a limitation of 1 sword per creature Icingdeath could then be a Voltron style commander or you can generate a bunch of swords to pass around to your army.
Spicy, me and my friends are all making dnd/fantasy themed decks, one is a shopkeeper that gives you weapons, ones a boss fight, ones a guy that gives quests, and ones the queen that passes the monarchy
IDK where you were looking for Lore, but Drizz't is a VERY Prominent character in the Forgotten Realms. He's a Drow who escaped the underdark because his family was evil (as most Drow are) and went on to defend the realm as a good guy.
51:00 it’s been a while since I’ve read up on the lore but I’m quite certain that Green Dragons are among the most intelligent chromatic dragons, and possess the ability to polymorph into humanoids, which they often use to infiltrate and manipulate others into gaining something they want. So Old Gnawbone would be able to transform into a regular sized human woman
In term of social inteligence Green are top notch, but chromatic dragons seems to rarely develop ability for polymorph. They can, but it is rare. Ironicly Green Dragon could be White, Black or Blue in term of mtg colors. The only one animalistic dragon is white dragon.
I had to rewind your guys shuffles, they had me laughing good. It was also so funny watching Beezy referencing little mermaid and Joe just not understanding. This video had me smiling even more than usual!
I can’t believe you guys gave Drizz’t only a five for coolness. He dual wields magical scimitars and can summon his friend, a magical black panther to fight for him. Raised in an evil matriarchal dark elf society in the under-dark, he fought his way out to the surface to escape (as he was one of the only good-aligned dark elves). He has starred in multiple New York Times bestselling book. Originally he was just a supporting character, but he was so popular that he soon became the main protagonist of the series. I think at this point, there are like 50 books and multiple video games starring him. I think the only minus to coolness is that he is sometimes seen as a bit of an edgelord (in a similar vein to Batman) and that his popularity has made some people in the community tired of him. That being said, he definitely deserves more than a five in coolness.
I think with Bruenor, the intention is kinda built around Commander Damage. You put him out, slap on a free equipment, and then he hits for seven. I kinda think he works like a 'build your own elder dragon' kinda commander on some level. I have been surprised at how well a friend of mine does with a Bruenor deck. He's been a more consistent pain than I would have guessed
Icingdeath, the dragon, was actually killed by Drizzt and his friend Wulfgar. Icingdeath, the sword, was one of Drizzt’s scimitars he found in the same dragons treasure after slaying it. It’s little bits like this lore on the dragon’s card that remind me how much I love this game.
Just starting off you 2 seem extremely negative towards this entire set from the jump, makes it seem like your not going to like anything from this set simply because you don't like D&D? Or you just don't like it cause you don't know anything about D&D? Maybe you just don't like that D&D and MTG are mixing together? Idk but I'm going to watch the entire video and see how it turns out. I am a huge D&D nerd so yeah I like this set alot. I totally understand you having issues with card abilities but these characters are important to use D&D nerds, its like how would you feel.if someone was reviewing a MTG book for D&D and just making fun of Chandra or Liliana calling them unless and dumb lol This comment is stupid but this is my nostalgia! Lol
I have to say Kalain is my favorite, I'm already desinging some weird Tavern treasure/chaos deck! :D Mtg history's first? bard telling, painting and singing stories about hidden treasures and dragons, gambling (rolling dices and playing cards, The Deck of Many Things, ), drinking and eating and of course tavern fights (Brash Taunter, Disrupt Decorum and Last One Standing)! :D
For Inferno of the Star Mounts there is an equipment card that gives creature +X/+X, where x is equal to the number of counters put on the equipment when it comes into play and when you want to equip it to a creature you remove a counter. You can bounce the equipment around to other creatures and then back on to Inferno and pay into his twenty each time wiping the board if you have the mana for it.
Just wanted to comment on the Art of Asmodeus. As the rule of the Nine Hells, he must remain in the deepest layer. To contrast him, Zariel is the Archduke of the first layer of the Nine Hells, Avernus. Each ruler of the Nine Hells is a prisoner of Asmodeus, who is himself a prisoner of the whims of the very cosmos. While Asmodeus has managed to influence the material plane (Forgotten Realms Earth, places of mortals), it is exclusively done through other agents who have made Pacts with him. Some such agents have their very blood corrupted by the Pact, which is the origination of Tieflings in Forgotten Realms Lore. However, his own inability to act means that his portrayal as an unintimidating man in a chair isn't out of context, as he doesn't need to ever use his actual power aside from lending it to others from his seat of power/prison
trelasarra is incredible in a sythis deck. the best non enchantment creature for the deck in my opinion. if you have trudge garden and this out with sythis, id say thats probably going to be game.
Grazillaxx is a great ninja commander. Return your ninjas to your hand when blocked and put the 1cmc unlockable creature back in play. Makes it so your ninjas aren't duds when on the battlefield.
Guys, you realize that if an ETB commander with "venture into a dungeon" is coupled with infinite ETBs, you win the game... Which means their power should be higher.
Its just me but I think a character that can paint things which then come to life is a mythic creature card with a Chord effect on ETB and possibly a clone activated ability.
I have an inferno Voltron deck that kills the table by using mana doublers and power doublers, and I run things like weakstone and serrated arrows and it's really actually quite strong, pretty consistently kills the entire table in one turn and stupid strong
Hama Pashar has won me some commander games. Yes, not a great choice as your main commander but doubling up those dungeon rooms is better than people think. This card should be ranked much higher. This card is a must have in any dungeon based commander deck.
This might be a late reply. But there are in fact other colored dragons in DnD! The Chromatic Dragons which are Red, Blue, Black, Green, and White. They're re the evil dragon races. Then theres the Metallic Dragons which are Brass, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Copper. These are the good dragon races.
Yeah Drizzt has “a little bit of lore” 😂😂 He’s really cool and has an entire book series dedicated to him, one of the longest in the forgotten realms. It’s like 15-20 books :) He is one of the most well known characters in the forgotten realms ❤️❤️
There are a lot of mono-white combos to flicker Nadaar infinitely to complete infinite dungeons and win the game. I haven't tested the deck myself, but it seems more powerful than a 2.
I know these aren't powerful, and you guys don't like the dungeon delving stuff, but I think it's cool. It's a different mechanic and adds some interesting things to the game especially if the whole table is playing decks from this set.
The tarrasque has ward 10 not hexproof because in D&D, he has an ability to bounce spells targeted at him back at the players, ward 10 makes more sense for that then hexproof, however i think it would have been cooler if they said he could actually reflect spells
So I built Bruenor Battle Hammer and honestly its very strong. I've been able to consistently kill people on like turn four. His ability to make equipment that normally is bad because it just gives key word soup very viable. Just my opinion from experience.
Some additional lore for characters that show up in DnD 5e (that I knew the lore of) Duke Zalto wants to recapture the glory of the fallen giant empire. He plans to do this by rebuilding an ancient skyscraper sized golem (think like Iron Giant just without the flying). Silverymoon is like the DnD equivalent of Rivendell (from LoTR), but admittedly I have no idea who Yaris is. Gnolls were created by a Demon Lord, Yeenoghu. Fun fact: gnolls constantly hunger, and can never feel full. They will also eat each other if they haven't eaten in a long time, and then ne brought back as zombies (called witherlings). Lymrith managed to manipulate giants into a civil war (giants are mortal enemies of dragons in DnD). She is a master manipulator. Fun Fact: She can also animate statues to attack people (I just think that's cool). (Not a lore comment) Tarrasque: At minimum, no trample makes me sad. Xanathar: He runs a "guild" (gang) which does every type of illegal activity (pit fights, drugs, etc.), not just slavery. In the city of Waterdeep (think medieval version of new york, had it existed then). Old Gnawbones: Most dragons have the ability to shapeshift into any humanoid, so if she wants to be a business lady, she definitely can. Tiamat: There are 5 colors of evil dragons, but there are 5 "metallic" good dragons: gold, copper, bronze, silver, and brass. Tiamat is the bad dragon god, and Bahamet is the good dragon god (and is platinum).
Tarrasque in lore reflect or is immune to most magic and weapons, regenerate from near anything, you need to cast wish (highest tier spell) on his corpse if you beat him in combat, because otherways in few minutes he will be back in action, bend gravity to put fliers in his reach, instill paralyzing fear in most things, his stomach destroy most things in existence. It is literaly walking dissaster. His card just like 5e variant sadly doesnt do him a justice. Tarrasque also got CR 30, which put him on par with minor deity.
Anybody else think of "Single Female Lawyer" from Futurama when they were discussing Old Gnawbone? "I'm a successful female humanoid, doing lots of stuff!"
14:44 I kind of see him as an "All that Glitters" for equipments. That guy looks like Wyleth wouldn't mind having him in the 99. The question is if you want "All that Glitters" in your command zone.
Volo is an easy 10 in terms of uniqueness as a commander for me. Yes, copying creature spells isn't entirely unique (although it is still very rare), but the deck building with Volo is crazy fun and different from any other Simic commander.
If Old Gnawbone was an enchantment costing 3 or 4 it would be busted. I think she's very fairly costed due to the extreme mana acceleration she can give.
I am most excited about Krydle rogue tribal. Dealing combat damage to draw a card is one of my favorite things. Imma put all those cards in the 99 and many things can stop me!
My favorite Green Red combo is Gruul War Chant and Challenger Troll. It makes all of your creatures power 4 of greater unblockable. Thatd be good for Targ Nar

@@mrfloppylxix9810 Then there shouldn’t be a score for “coolness” or they should have defaulted every one of these to 5. You can’t have a score based on the lore if you’re not going to actually dig int the lore
Do you get to kill this in DND? Well, you get to try.
Tiamat is the strongest official monster in dnd and has challenge rating 30, meaning it should take a party of level 30 adventurers to kill Tiamat without dying. Unfortunately, the max level is 20...
Orcus with his wand might arguably be stronger, I think.
Drizzt is a 10 for coolness don't @ me
@
Drizzit got old and cliche in the 90s.
Gotta agree here... guy's got like 20 books about him and would be a strong contender for face of the setting. He's kind of a big deal ;)
@@WoolyCaterpillar so I actually only know him from the books not D&D lore. Is there a more iconic/beloved named character? (obviously subjective)
@@RecoveringSpartan I can only think of Elminster (maybe?) as possible competition. Drizzt has to take it hands-down though!
The "Under the CEO" pun was hysterical... Cherries missed it and it was tragic
I was not ready for 42:29 out of nowhere 😂
with Acererak you don´t want to complete tomb of annihilation, you venture into another dungeon he goes back to your hand, you play again to venture again.
so you can either take advantage of the mad mage dungeon and get free stuff or the mine to drain everyone, his deck would have a focus on reducing it´s cost yso you can play him over and over again.
Imagine an Esper control deck that gets out Omniscience and just flings down Acererak like 20 times and just wins lmao
I still think having these signpost uncommons be legendary is exhausting.... gimmie my baloth nulls and river hoopoes back wotc. It was cool in dominaria and immediately got old after that.
They're fine for Brawl, which gets played plenty on Arena. Not every card has to be made for every format.
I plan on building Old Gnawbone. He's gonna "combo" really well with Toski and Orhan Frostfang
There's like...30 books written about Drizzt I think?
Grazilaxx's ability is the card Cunning Evasion. It's actually a really good card because if they double block your creature and it dies, you return it to your hand instead
43:37 Throwing a token (Myr or whatever) away for a Sol Ring, Skull Clamp, Altar of Brood, Codex Shredder, Esper Sentinel and much more. Oswald is awesome.
I actually got the “Under the CEO”. I started laughing to myself. 😂
Came to say the same.
Icingdeath can be fixed by changing two things:
1. ) Change the LTB to an ETB so it's flickerable
2. ) Make the artifact either non-legendary or allow a uniquely specific number of them (kinda like how Seven Dwarves allows exactly seven copies), with perhaps a limitation of 1 sword per creature
Icingdeath could then be a Voltron style commander or you can generate a bunch of swords to pass around to your army.
Varis' venture ability only triggers once per turn, so the loops you would need to set up to really venture a ton would have to work at instant speed.
If you're playing Tiamat, you'd be a fool to cast it without getting out your cavern of souls first (Especially since you're in 5c dragons.)
What if you don't have cavern of souls it is not cheap
I had to rewind your guys shuffles, they had me laughing good. It was also so funny watching Beezy referencing little mermaid and Joe just not understanding. This video had me smiling even more than usual!
Those shuffle moments just get me everytime. Nice video!
Oh, and D&D also features chromatic dragons (bronze, gold, etc). Those would be multicolor I suppose.
The way that Cherries said Ol' NawBowne killed me. He sounded like an old Louisianan man talking about an infamous croc that haunts the local bayou.
I totally understand you having issues with card abilities but these characters are important to use D&D nerds, its like how would you feel.if someone was reviewing a MTG book for D&D and just making fun of Chandra or Liliana calling them unless and dumb lol
This comment is stupid but this is my nostalgia! Lol
Ngl this is one of their worse videos imo...
on the rewind "under the sea -e-o" was genius
Damn Drizzt should have a higher lore ranking than that. He probably has like at least double the lore of any mtg character
there are over 30 full novels about Drizzts DoUrden and he's from the Underdark. Boo is actually imagary in the Baldur's gate game
After you mentioned brushing up on the lore I skipped to see what would be said of Drizzt, and was understandably disappointed.
If you were wondering where the first Knolls came from, they were created by a demon god called Yeenagu (I think that’s how it’s spelled).
34:45 it's Colossal and it has protections from almost all damage and magic effects.
If you sacrifice asmodeus after you activate the draw seven but before it resolves you can draw instead of exiling without taking damage
trelasarra is incredible in a sythis deck. the best non enchantment creature for the deck in my opinion. if you have trudge garden and this out with sythis, id say thats probably going to be game.
There are so meany other wins with infinite etbs
You can also sacrifice Asmodeus with his BBB trigger on the stack to just straight up draw 7 for 3
Its just me but I think a character that can paint things which then come to life is a mythic creature card with a Chord effect on ETB and possibly a clone activated ability.
I have an inferno Voltron deck that kills the table by using mana doublers and power doublers, and I run things like weakstone and serrated arrows and it's really actually quite strong, pretty consistently kills the entire table in one turn and stupid strong
Also there are other dragons, but they are metallic and good-aligned.
Hama Pashar has won me some commander games. Yes, not a great choice as your main commander but doubling up those dungeon rooms is better than people think. This card should be ranked much higher. This card is a must have in any dungeon based commander deck.
FUN FACT: Emrakul, according to the booklet in Eldritch Moon is only 200 ft. across. It feels like she should be bigger :/ Less than a football field.
That's pretty weird, it spans multiple houses in the art for Promised End :(
@@NitpickingNerds EXACTLY!!! And they had that artwork covering the entire page behind the text that said that xD
Definitely gonna build a Volos deck. Keep up the great work you guys.
He looks like fun!
I know these aren't powerful, and you guys don't like the dungeon delving stuff, but I think it's cool. It's a different mechanic and adds some interesting things to the game especially if the whole table is playing decks from this set.
Fun fact, giant hamsters are actually a thing in the Spelljammer D&D setting. The gnomes use them to power their spaceships.
You forgot about the Xanathar's cherished pet goldfish, which is visible in the card and he talks to like a cherished friend!
A guy in my play group uses Artifact lands to tutor out 1 cost artifacts with Oswald Fiddlebender, thought that was a pretty unique idea
Very good shuffle guys. Also, im here for the little mermaid references XD
Krydle might make it into my Rogue tribal deck
Some additional lore for characters that show up in DnD 5e (that I knew the lore of)
Duke Zalto wants to recapture the glory of the fallen giant empire.
Acererak is a infinate mana outlet to draw your deck through the other dungeons and create infinate goblins.
Asmodeus and K'rrik are going to be VERY good friends...
Hahahahaha the little mermaid references were great beezy 👍 come on Joe!
Inferno can use umezavas Jitte I suppose. It pumps, and can also give -1/-1. Still alot of hoops, but it does fit the bill.
I am most excited about Krydle rogue tribal. Dealing combat damage to draw a card is one of my favorite things. Imma put all those cards in the 99 and many things can stop me!
I created a Trelassara brawl deck with a bunch of life gain, and it's fast and powerful.
Tarrasque not having trample is a ridiculously big flavour fail.
Yeah I agree completely!
My favorite Green Red combo is Gruul War Chant and Challenger Troll. It makes all of your creatures power 4 of greater unblockable. Thatd be good for Targ Nar
