We bought 9V battery snap connectors and a 9V battery and a momentary button, so that it only works when the button is held down! But we did it thanks to you man! Great video!

Just because someone told you that you can draw good, or "That's an awesome rose plaka ese", or you have been writing 'prison script' for a while DOES NOT mean you know anything about placement, execution, art or even how the needle goes into the skin (different types of skin). 8. Where's the rubber band holding the "needle" keeping it from just wiggling at the tip making blown out-spotty lines? 9. If your so used to prison style "Rotary Machines", those are like 30 bucks on EBay too. 10. these only hold a single needle, so how do you shade, with that blunt wire? 11. Watching these fake shows does not mean you all of the sudden know the business and can draw, Most apprentices only last a month or so, thee is so much more to it, all geared towards not sending customers to the hospital. this has to be the absolute best video on homemade tattoo gun, i tried givin myself a tattoo by cuttin a design with a razor blade and smearin oil paint all over it lol it didnt work
I've tattooed myself by takeing a sterilized needle and pushing it in and out of my skin until I had dots in the shape of an x, then i dotted in between the dots until there were no spaces of skin. Then, I rubbed a permanent marker through the whole thing and put gauze over it and let it heal for about a week then I took the gauze off and washed the area. So the x is still there after 3 months.

You can use Indian ink or any ink that says non toxic.... I made one similar to this one with a switch as well j got my first tattoo with my own machine...... Only down side of using the Indian ink its that it'll fade out to a different color so if you want a more professional look go with good quality tattoo ink. Good video by the way!
For you all that don know where to get the ink.... It's called Indian ink an you can normally find it at one of your local arts and crafts stores because Indian ink is used for some types of paintings... And don't worry theirs not an age restriction on it

@Scareface411. Yes mate I made it. My problems were that plastic pens melt, plastic buttons melt with the power of that motor. I used same motor as him. Also guitar strings come coiled so are bent and can be whipped out of pen too easily. My solutions were, instead of guitar string, to file coat hanger metal as this is more durable. I made a metal button for the top of the motor. I used a hollow metal tube instead of a pen. And a metal pen tip is vital. If I knew all this before it wouldn't h
@fernifern3 there are some pens out there that have springs in them. you can take the spring hold one end with plyers and pull the other end as far as u can while holding a hot flame in the middle. the point will end up so sharp you will be suprised. they will dull tho
REVIEW: I made this tattoo machine and I've used it to do 2 tattoos so far. I find that my machine malfunctions quite often. The needle always comes loose from the button hole and sometimes it flies out, which is unsafe. One of the button holes have been scratched out and became wider (reverse-teardrop looking) so now I have to use the other holes until they get scratched out too. It's very annoying to have to replace the needle because now I am running out of string.

Everyone! Instead of using an electrical motor you can use an electrical toothbrush. It already has a motor and a piece of metal that moves up down from the power of internal motor! Just attatch the guitar strimg on the small piece of metal and it will be fine :)
@981Darlene art supply stores, but ash ink is when you burn paper and mix the ash with a bit of low chem body wash, making it thick enough to stay in you. this is also known as the prison technique. itll fade after years and years, maybe, but you, like me, are probably a teenager who cant get one legally yet, so it probably wont matter because then you'll just be able to get it done over.

the machine is a very good creation.. the only problem is the needle . a guitar string is very thin .. i sugest instead a paper clip with for example three neddles attached i already did tattoo and it is much better ..
@drumnetworkBlake I used black ink. its called India ink. used for calligraphy and drawing, you can basically get it in any Arts and crafts store. i got a good little jar for 5 dollars. they sell lower quality stuff but bigger quantities for the same price.

....have taken 4 days to make. Also went through 3 spare strings but the rest was free there is a slight problem with ink not staying under skin but I've not experimented with inks yet. Like with all homemade things you'll want to buy a real one after making one of these. EBay £40/ $35.
Thats how we did it when I was in prison. And they work very well for tattooing. U can really make a nice tat with a tat-gun made that way. The down side is spreading deiases.because the needles are hard to come by n there.

You can also use a eraser instead of a button. Just put the needle anywhere but the middle of the eraser.

Where would the ink go? like if i were building the tattoo gun at home, where would the ink go so the tattoo can be made?
So, when you ACTUALLY start to tatt up someone, doesn't the needle move around? Seeing as though the mechanical pencil tip isn't that tight of a fit?

1. either do as he says and sharpen the string "needle" with the sandpaper or just cut it in a sharp angle.

the ones the he has are first act guitar strings. not bass strings. you can get them at wal-mart
steel strings, of course (for electrical guitars) and g or h, thats the second and third smallest of them.

get wound electric guitar trings you can unwinds them at the tip and there really sharp that way you aint gotta sharpesn them
