Great video, what is your opinion on changing rewireble fuse boxes even though they are still in a good useable condition. Ref page 99 in the onsite guide .

If a consumer unit is still safe for continued operation then there is no need to replace it. Unfortunately for most properties the older rewirable fuse type consumer units do fall a little short in a number of areas.
RCD protection being the main one, but also rating for prospective short circuit current, fire-rating of the enclosure, surge protection and not least the ease of use/maintenance (as per the topic of this video) for the householder.

Yes I agree but RCD protection is not retroactive they are only required from 17th edition BS7671 am3 onwards SPDs are a recommendation only at the moment AFDDs are only required in curtain locations ie purpose built student accommodation care homes and dwellings in blocks exceeding 18 metres or six storey in hight . Old rewireble fuse box can be signed of as safe for continued service if there is no damage signs of overheating or thermal damage and all our test results are within the specified range set out in BS7671 . Hence why I mentioned Page 99 of the current edition of the onsite guide. But in my own opinion rewireble fuse box’s should be replaced regardless of there condition. If I had a pound for every rewireble fuse I have seen with the wrong size fuse wire or I nail I would be a very rich man. So yes I agree with you mate . And let just get rid of them .
Oh and thank you for your kind reply. Just so you know I have been a spark for a little over thirty years , I did C&Gs 236 parts 1 and 2 and for years at college 1987-1992 .
