I remember when my mother's family sat out on grandma's porch and talk for hours. People came and went, but us kids we ran out in the pasture and played hide and seek, ate chunks of cow salt, and drank well water.
I still wave at everybody that goes down the road!!! But now I live in a town population MAYBE 1500 and that about a 15 or 20-mile radius!!!! At the city limit sign when you see where it says " Welcome to Gray Court " you better not even blink or you will see the sign that says " Thank you for your stay in Gray Court " !!! Hell, it's written on the backside of the welcome sign!!!!
When people sat out on the front porch at night, you could walk around the neighborhood and sit on the porches of friends awhile then get up and move on to your own porch, where some other neighbor might come to sit with you and jaw awhile. James left out one thing about it, though. We had no air conditioning, so it was always cooler on the porch at night in the Summer. Most people only had one fan, and most in our neighborhood didn't have a window fan. They mainly used the one fan to sit in front of.
@Proud Straight White Christian Conservative Not in my neighborhood any more. Most sold out to gentrification. There are actually porches on the ones they put back in... but I seldom see anybody sitting on them. New neighbors, but not like a neighborhood, unless you are in the Egan Park Neighborhood Association. Not the same, they are all well-off, I'm still a poor boy, trying to get my house ready to sell. I don't want to have to join something to associate with them, but they are homebodies who seem to want privacy. That means no porch talkin' or sharing. I want to move way out in the country somewhere, see if I can find that kind of welcoming small town. I'll get back to you in a year or two and let you know if I find it.
I remember sitting on the porch with my grandpa it was just a really small thing he made not big enough for more then 2 people I miss those times may he rip
Front porch of an evening was the way our family shared news. Another loss was downtown stores and benches. A way of life. Lost to the shopping centers.
One of my grandmothers had a covered front porch with a concrete floor. I remember cooling off in the summertime by stripping down to my drawers and lying on the concrete. For those of you who do not know, concrete gets pretty cold if it is covered.

Some of the best times of my life were spent on my grandmother's front porch... #PRECIOUSMEMORIES
It was brown all across the sand in front of my grandma's porch from them sitting in their rocking chairs, spitting the snuff they dipped...
So, So, true story telling!!!!! Very real, and those times have sadly been lost, by our today’s culture. That’s sad. He was a is a GEM !!!

So, my name is David Jackson. And I love this joke for one simple reason
True about porches, just relaxing, wholesome living.
He's so right about everything he said.

I sit on my porch everyday!
If they had a deck Opie would be on drugs right now. Ron Howard quietly chuckles.😄
He speaks the Truth.
Porches stopped being important when we all got TVs and A/C. Now nobody sits on a front porch even if they've got one.
I sit on mine
True statement .I sit on mine & love it . I don't care what people think of it .
