You know I live in a city that's known as a purple heart city in Texas because of how many veterans and disabled veterans we have throughout all the wars here when I was young you saw World War II vets everywhere and I think I might have saw one and like the past year or two and I think the oldest that I found in my town resebtly is Korean War now and there's just a handful of them around my town now is getting harder to find the Vietnam ones as well. My step-dad served as part of the naval blockade outside of Cuba and then served a tour in Vietnam and he's turning 80 in a year or two and he joined when he was 18 or 19 years old.

The song was made by the US for the paratroopers, it obviously was added to through the years but it’s still a song that, despite the lyrics, is rather motivational, he has watched that song, just like this country, grow old, change, be on the verge of collapse and bounce back over and over, but to keep spirits up he still shows up to graduations and sings that song with the troops, with just as much heart as did then, sure his hair is grey and some of them aren’t here anymore, but just like this country, he will endure

    SING ALONG!
Everybody happy cried, the sergeant looking up
Our hero's bravely answered "YES" an then they stood him up
He jump right out in to the blast, and his static line unhooked
He ain't gonna jump no more.
    Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
He ain't gonna jump no more.
Now there was blood upon the riser,
there were brains upon the chute
Intestines were-a hanging from his paratrooper boots
They picked him up still in the chute and pour him from his boots
He ain't gonna jump no more.
    Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
He ain't gonna jump no more.
Now the letter they sent home went to his wife and baby son
Madam we regret to say your trooper's life is done
But hold your head up high, his name is written in the sky
He ain't gonna jump no more.
    Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
He ain't gonna jump no more.
Now they sent him to Afghanistan
    And then into Iraq
The bullets that came speeding out went deep into his back
He hit the ground but his grenede found enemy on track
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
    Chorus:
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.
Gory, gory, what a hell of way to die.

Germans: Sing about their fiancé waiting for them back home
Japanese: Sing about the glory of the Emperor and Empire
Americans: Take a classic American song about going on a crusade for freedom and make it about dying in the most gruesome way possible instead
Yeah I'm not sure if it was just U.S. industry that gave us the edge...

    • @rocketjumper1380
      @rocketjumper1380 3 года назад +43

It was mostly the industry and economy. Most of Americans were anti-war, but fierce propaganda campaigns against the Germans and Japanese changed the rhetoric. Hell, they were staunchly isolationist for most of the time, it was the booming economy that really changed peoples minds about war. The americans weren't particularly brave in any fashion, actually the british forces mostly refered to them as wasteful and ignorant; which makes sense coming from a country that had just been bombed for the past 2-3 years with an industry that was lacking in comparison to the american one.
