From destroyers to cruisers and amphibs to LCACs, your skills are essential for every kind of ship readiness. Keep the engines in working order, test fuel in the oil lab, maintain the ship’s air conditioning, or run the boilers on a steam ship. Distilling units: shows a lube oil purifier
Did look like a centrifuge.
Lol
I hope he gets A gang and not M Division.

MM: ... We handle AC's...
AC's: UwU
what?
Sounds kinda distorted but I believe he said AC's galley equipment
ACs as in 363 ton air conditioning units. We had 10.
@@USNMMCret lol I know, just figured the Air Traffic Controllers were meeting the MM’s in a fan room.
@@MrCrapDude lol. They think a fan room is a lounge
What they didn’t tell me is you can get put into the nuclear reactor division on an aircraft carrier. If you are thinking of choosing this rate. Think long and hard.
@L. Ruf what do you mean ? Is machinist mate a decent or good rating ? Thoughts, opinions, and experience with this rating.
Hi there, thank you for reaching out. Until L.Ruf gets back to you I thought you might be interested in learning more. Here's a link to the machinist mate webpage: bit.ly/3k5vBQC
Why you leading people in the wrong direction.
They don’t it sucks like he said think long and hard!
Former MM/E5 here. If you have any questions hit me up. It is not a bad rate to have, Every rate has their ups and down. Just like any other job, civilian and military.
Hey, I just picked MM over EN today, can you tell me the difference between the two?
@@mikalnewbold7250 for sure! Message me in my Facebook page so we can chat about it. m.facebook.com/PO2Salazar
I’m thinking about crossing rating to this rate
Go for it ⚓
Kind of a semi-unrelated question, Can I cross-rate from MM to HM? I know HM is overmanned but is it possible?
“Boilers”: shows a gas generator
Yup that's NR 1 GTG on a DDG
Jake H it’s #2 gtg in main 2. But okay
This is what i would have been doing had i chose to stay in the Navy back in 2006. Instead I was medically discharged from basic training and ended up joining the Army in 2015.
Trust me (im an mm on a carrier) id much rather be in the army
Shaft alley runs every hour
Not in my log books dawg 😎
nothing about main prop.... really. m-div is people to. lol. awe :(
Now do a throwback to ML.
what a bunch of crap. 90% of the MM rating is main propulsion. after a few years in the aft engine room on the USS JASON , i graduated from cryogenics school and worked in the O2N2 shop onboard the USS KITTY HAWK.
@@yungkim5834 were you a MM also
@@yungkim5834 it's a C school in Portsmouth VA . It's a hard school to get selected into. And it has a HUGE failure rate.
Not anymore, there aren't very many steam powered ships left. Most main propulsion is either Gas Turbine or Diesel, MM's are mostly A gang now.
@@BeerMe831 I know. I graduated from cryogenic school, and got out of the hole
@@BeerMe831 what does it mean?
I'm retired 20 years. I remember we didn't get to work on small boys only cvn and amphibious and use comfort

Suck it up in main 1
i just signed to be an mm anxious and eager
It is a good rate
From a PACT Seaman
The glory role of Machinist Mates is to; Turn to and Turn that Screw to the exact speed the Captain or OOD order. Once you become trustedly proficient and can faithfully ANSWER ALL BELLS, YOU GO ON THE SEA AND ANCHOR DETAIL, able to maneuver the ship through very tight tolerances successfully.
Are you talking about helmsman?
@@KSIxCliPs He must be lmao. MMs run the machinery rooms for streerings the ship, helmsman control the ship.
@@HealthyWC-2is it a good rate?
I leave in 4 days with this rate
Hows it going?

have u gone home since bootcamp or no?
@@ladyharmonyravizee7426 I’m the original poster of this comment this is just my new account but the answer to your question is yes. I’m already on my ship
That Moment When Being an MM is nothing like this lol well on my ship at least
Fastrada what is it like? my husband is going soon
@@Fredesbindaa Your Husband Is going to Bootcamp ?
Fastrada yes, he’s going to be an MM. What is it like?
@@Fredesbindaa its like away from home for most of the year in a hot power plant if he is not in yet he should take a long hard look at the coast guard or air force is better for a married man
B Peek He already is leaving, and yes I agree Air Forge sounded better but at the time none of the recruiters wanted him. So he ended up just doing Navy.
If you’re on a DDG prepare to work
⚓️💪
What math do u have to know for this job
Math is not a big thing for MMs. You build knowledge by learning how the equipment operates, your drawings, and understand how much of something is good or not. MM handle a lot of hand tools so knowing what to use and how to use it is a big thing.
@@Slygolem1 is machinist mate a good rating ?what are your experiences with them ?
@@stevenmajicmike MM rating is very flexible on what your is job and the conditions on where you work. It could be from working in the engine room like with lube oil, shafts, or making water where those areas can be extremely hot. You could also be working in areas with auxiliary equipments that provide everything the ships need (A/C, Weapons, Elevators, Catapults etc). Those areas are pretty common for those going to their first ships. After that you can choose what you want to do. For example I have a buddy that gotten a billet to work on landing crafts air cushions with marines(Yes it’s possible for MMs to go green side). In some cases if you’re on an a carrier you could be in reactor department. Finally, it’s no secret that we work very long hours and are usually the first and the last to get off a ship. However, the benefits is that you gain a lot of knowledge in areas that are very beneficial when getting out like water treatment. There’s a lot more to this rating than this video entails, but like they say choose your rate choose your fate.
@@Slygolem1 there's this other interesting rating called ABF do you know anything about that one ?
@@stevenmajicmike not much just the general since they are an air rating. They just handle all fuel pumps and tanks on board ships for aircrafts. But I heard they usually put new guys in those areas first before they can do things such as ABH. I do say that I think they’re most busiest especially on carriers when out to sea, but I wouldn’t know much about air guys daily schedule .
wow this is extremely misleading
Billy Peek how ? this is my mos, i wanna know more before i ship out
OVERCOME ALL OBSTACLES !! This is going to be my rate as well, when do you ship out?
Logan Marshens tomorrow lol
OVERCOME ALL OBSTACLES !! Oh wow!! Good luck, hope to see you out in the fleet

Quit your crying, this is a recruitment video, or course thet are going to show fresh air snipe and aviation MM areas. You think they are going to show guys staring at guages in the pit, or cleaning a purifier, operating an evap, etc. etc. etc.

@Steven Trujillo-Parada ruclips.net/video/51CJUMonMVM/видео.html
Steven Trujillo-Parada I enjoy being an MM. My future plan is to become part of landing craft
@@Slygolem1 is there such thing as a 4 year enlistment for MM ? Also what is A school like and overall experience in the fleet ?
@@stevenmajicmike unsure about the contract since mines is a 5 year, I talk to recruiter about that. A school generally won’t start until you go through Basic engineering first. Overall depend on the time year you go there’s lots to do around the Chicago area. First few days is all indoc, then you go through basic dc, then a holds list where you will be on working parties, go to Becc then A school. All this happens from 0700-1500 maybe later it’s been awhile for me. You will still be in duty sections and stand watch which is cake. But enjoy time there and not stay in barracks for long.
Fleet wise it depends on the ship and division you’re in. Can’t say much for A div since I was on a different schedule than them which they run all hydraulics and auxiliary equipment around ship. I on other hand worked in reactor propulsion (mdiv) for 4 years. All I can say not an easy life style, long hours, time off is hard to come by. My ship is in yards and I have to work the entire 96 the ship got which was the same as Memorial Day. In the end of suck you come out more knowledgeable. Want know even more detail just send me message
