So the flange (lip) which is very small (1mm) of the aluminium stops the unit from falling through. And if you have it on the same part as your keyboard. Maybe you could build/create your own DAW controller. I'm wondering how hard would that be? 3D printed case, some encoder knobs, buttons, character LCD screen, arduino with firmware that talks Midi 2.0 and done. The last bit is probably the most difficult part of the build. I'm just thinking of a Look Mum No Computer style approach to such a problem.

The third party support is pretty good - there's a lot of pre-mapped third party plugins. Those that aren't pre-mapped you can map yourself.
There's just a bit of a play around where you can't set the colours using the nektarine app which is used for mappings, but you can do it via the hardware within the DAW.
There's also the ability to map on the fly using the built-in learn system.

I remember being a child dealing with a new toy or video game or instrument piece and thinking "they should have done this, or it would be cool if it could do that". In my experience, it's wisest to find a controller that works great with your DAW instead of buying into ecosystems of plugin companies. This will enable you to navigate the DAW and ALL STOCK PROCESSORS well with your controller and from then on out all you need to do is to map the third party plugins you REALLY need to your controller. The LESS buttons/knobs the plugin has, the BETTER you will usually be able to map it. So "all-in-one" solutions and racks will probably not be the type of plugins you'll want. Basically, you need to make a choice whether it's more important for you to minimize the amount of controllers, or the amount of plugins you load into a session. Commonly, people have more CPU power than desk-space.

    • @akagerhard
