They indicate melodic and harmonic direction. When notes are next to each other. ... E F G ... No arrow, but if there is a leap of a 3rd or more I try to always use an arrow ... C to F ... The arrow tells whether to go up to F or to the F below C. I have a video up that answers most FAQ: ruclips.net/video/DZBWuttUnoM/видео.html
Hi again, what about the other little part, I don't know what to call this part, it goes off on with a different tune, its a part of the song in the movie, it is very Russian sounding melody and is part of Laras theme. Its ok, I found it! Also in the key of G.
I was surprised by your comment. The only accidentals are A#/Bb, F# , and C#/Db. All of these notes are regularly and easily played on the flute. It is a little awkward, because sometimes I notate a Db and other times a C#. Same with the A# and later notating a Bb. It is a beautiful melody :)
@@LetterNotePlayer On a regular Boehm flute, sure. But I have an Irish flute, in which these accidentals are quite possible, but a massive pain in the arse. Also, I think I'd prefer to play the piece in D rather than G, because in G it's almost entirely in the top octave, which rather annoys me.
You're right. I've never played an Irish flute, only the regular Boehm flute. I agree with you about the key. On the Boehm flute you'd have to have an extra low B key to play in the lower octave in the key of G. Key of D definitely works better on the Irish flute and even allows some rich low tones on the Boehm flute :)@@quasarsphere
Very good teacher!👏👏👏
Thank you! 😃
Thank you for doing this very beautiful song!
You're welcome - it's one of my favorites - has been ever since the movie came out :)
Another excellent tutorial from John Nelson. Extremely helpful for adults learning piano on their own. Please keep up the good work.
Glad to help. This song has always been a favorite of mine :). Ever since the movie :)
Thank you John Nelson
Thanksss... Wonderful demo and play but where is the second part 😢?
I'm not sure what the 2nd part is. Send me a video link and I'll listen to it :)
Thank you so much for doing this song. So beautiful.
I can't find this one on your site. I click on the title for the song but another song called soldier boy comes up
I'm not sure what happened. I'll fix that link right now :)
Fixed the link ... It should work for you now 🤠
@@LetterNotePlayer ok thank you
What are up arrow and down arrows on the sheet music you have for this. How do you interpret them. Does it tell you the time for the note?

@@LetterNotePlayer Thank you very much. This helps a lot. The explanations are really neat and easy to understand. A great site.

Measures 1 to 6
@@LetterNotePlayer the link I sent you is part of the song but after I played it, it wasn't the melody I was thinking of but I will search again
Would appreciate if you can put the cords on the screen too
Very nice 👌
Essa música me traz ótimas recordações.
I can only play very basic notes so i play this by ear in the key of C and i think it's just fine for someone who knows very minimal about playing.
Is there toccata in d minor by js bach in ur videos?
No, but I'll work on it :)
John Nelson Thanks
Good
👍
thanks, I 've like this song ... ever since the movie came out :)
Teach step by step and a little bit slower because I couldn’t even catch up with you!
The piano sound too strong for such a beautiful theme.
Lots of accidentals will make this a pain in the arse to play on a flute. Not impossible, obviously, but really annoying.
