    I'd give just about anything to be the one sitting at this awesome instrument playing this piece or be half as talented as this man is....
    I can spend every waking moment listening to this...for me, it just doesn't get any better than this!...I know...I'm weird...but hey....music was one of Gods most prized "gift" given to a few select.
    Thank you God...for MUSIC that fills our souls and pours out our hearts....and that You God for blessing a few with such awesome talent to bless those who love listening!

    The complexity and coordination between the conductor, the organist and his assistant is striking. Say what you may about the modernity of the idea of incorporating organ and orchestra together...but the result is glorious. Loved it.

      +Chesterbarnes1 It was just the volume dear that knock you out of your seat... not the skill. I played this work at 17. It's not really that difficult. But it doesn't hurt if you have an orchestra at hand. Contrast... PPP... FFF creates interest... not just volume (32' or 64'). I'd like to hear Xaver play some of his own composition. I know he can do it. This Liberace business... doesn't quite work for me. CVD

    I know and love this music. The orchestra enhancement is not necessary but on the other side it is interesting. For me this enriched instrumentation does not destroy the oldstyle beauty of Boellmanns work. The fascinating very well played organ remains the center instrument. Finally I can say: I simply like this version as it is.

    What a treat you are to watch and listen to. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼for you and 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼for your camera, lighting and sound people. I have only one suggestion. Smile and act like you are enjoying what you are doing. I know you are. Us USA people like to see smiles even though the effort of playing is as difficult as it can possibly be. Have you played concerts in the lower 48 states? Our churches and organs aren’t of the caliber of European venues but we have some significant organs. Our pipe organs, however, are disappearing.

    Keeping the organ alive and in the public’s mind is now paramount if it is to survive. Whilst I agree in essence with some of the criticism leveled here, one cannot overlook the fact that the performance is riveting, just listen to the audience at the end thumping for more. Had this been organ alone the drama would have been lost and yes, it would have been another excellent performance of this work, the brass however do add a thrilling aspect to the whole and this cannot be overlooked. Authentic maybe not, thrilling without doubt yes and hopefully another audience educated to the capabilities of the incredible instrument we love, the pipe organ. I say bravo and thank you for opening my eyes to another performance possibility of this superb work. Those critiquing the tempos etc, I look forward to hearing your versions of the work right here, if you can’t play it as this chap does, don’t you dare criticize the poor fellow and give him a bad day. I’m pressing like and hope more will do so.

    I liked the brass, which although the magnificent organ was capable of almost anything by itself, the brass added very rich harmonics, which if you listen through really good headsets, you will hear the difference. Would have LOVED to be sitting anywhere near the center of the room at this concert. Listen to this again (I sure will) with high end phones on, and notice the subtle nuances. Was wonderful to hear this piece!

    The mark of a musician who truly understands the soul of the pipe organ is one who understands how to work with the resonance of his space....too many organists keep playing at a pace unmatched to the resonance of the hall... The fading echo and silence are every bit a part of the performance as the bright fanfare...Without the silence, the fanfare becomes just noise.

    An exiting performance, and an interesting re-interpretation. No-one has yet questioned nor have they remarked on the black-and-white images. I wonder what they were supposed to convey? Like a number of others, I was waiting for the 32's to squash the orchestra at the end, and fire them (the orchestra) off to where they deserved to be! Still, it must have been quite an experience to be there. What an instrument! Thanks for the posting.

  • @N7TFP
    @N7TFP 11 лет назад

    When you referred to the limiting bandwidth of RUclips videos YOU are referring to the sampling process. Also, the Nyquist rate most certainly applies in this case. It does in fact limit high frequency components, and not low frequency components. In fact, digital signal processing can usually handle very low audio frequencies (down to DC) better than its analog (continuous time) counterparts.

    I have loved this piece since the first moment I heard a recording of Keith Chapman playing it on the Wanamaker organ. This rendition is magnificent. I don't know how the audience could stand it. They should be passing out from the sheer beauty and power of this performance.
    By The Way, you should post a warning about the low frequency reproduction. My cheap computer subwoofer did not handle this well. Any volume above "3" may destroy lesser components.

    Very good points. I used to play this at Mass a very long time ago. Sometimes now I "hear" things that are more wishful thinking than objective reality. I do have some CDs that purport to go down to 16Hz. One came with the SRS subwoofer, but I have misplaced it. Old age. On the other end, I haven't been able to hear 15KHz for decades.

    I think that the brass added new crisp colours to the overall sound though the organ was good enough to stand alone. It must have been enjoyable for the organist to be performing with others instead of being alone.

    Actually, with this organ especially, one does not even need the brass band, however they do everything to add to the magnificence of Leon Boellmann's musical composition! As with any decent organ, one shouldn't need any other instrumentalists, but having them doesn't hurt any! It just adds to the music, making it more pleasant to listen to! How is this five manual work of art divisioned? Probably 1. Swell, 2. Great, 3. Choir, 4. Solo, or antiphonal, 5. Echo? An interesting thing when you have the standard two manuals, great is on the lower, and swell or positif (depending whether this division is enclosed or not) is the upper manual! When you have three or more manuals, they are reversed in order of the lower and middle ones (ie the great is above the positif, or swell)! Even some (very few organs ever built) have six or seven manuals as well as your standard 25, 30 or full 32 note pedalboard! As for brass instruments, I have some experience with playing one (actually it is classed as a woodwind, the saxophone)! Oh, what fun it would be to try out this organ, as with any instrument and learning to play good quality music on it!

    As I've heard the Boellmann Toccata, (part 4), it sounded as the ˇ"DUNE" s main theme (by Brian ENO). So easy the arrangement...anyway, the organ solo is brilliant.
