This song is driving me crazy.I'm tear up the finish on my hardwood floor.Showing the grand's How to do the Camel Walk to this cut.And yes I'm sweating, old an out of shape. But when the Great's of the Greatest are playing. The only way to pay homage is to Teach an Show the young one's how we did it in our day. These guy's are all Legend's.Most of them played with James Brown when he played the Legendary Uptown Theater in North Philly.(Much Respect To All)😊😊😊
I was in the army with Melvin, it's good to see he is still at it. He use to pay me $20.00 on the weekend to work in his place so he could go play with James Brown. That was back in 1968. That was good money back then.
carroll dashiell, on bass, was my history of jazz professor when i was a student at east carolina university. he's the freakin' man and his kids are awesome too, they're all musicians and singers :)
I had a great time the other night (June 7, 2012) at the "Teatro Gran Rex" in downtown Buenos Aires. The Maceo Parker Band really funked the place up !!! Thanks for the great upload !
I had the honor and pleasure of studying bass under Carroll Dashiell at East Carolina University. He's an amazing player, but an even better person. This video doesn't begin to show his ability.
Tight. Tight. Tight. It's refreshing to see & hear musicians playing their instruments. As opposed to today's "music", where rappers are: ignorant, crack-heads, jail-bird/thugs, and music thieves (samplers). Mr. James Brown was great! Maceo, Mr. Wesley, Pee Wee & the rest shaped what we call funk. "I break out, in a cold sweat!"
Maceo is the Real deal! Him and Fred connected to the old days with Count Basie - James Brown and in todays music with Prince. You can't fake the funk.
Melvin Parker was one of the baddest drummers there was. Watch the Tami show and see how smooth he was when the Godfather was doing Prisoner of Love. If you wasn't paying close attention you would have missed him losing one of his sticks. He never missed a beat .
Only just seen this,-brings back when I heard Live At The Apollo in 1968,-I played it for weeks! Maceo has his own style,-great timing etc & the band sound great in this recording. The guitar man also has that scratching type rhythm that was on the original record!
Saw Maceo live in Toronto recently. One of the best concerts EVER (and I've seen plenty in 40+ years). As a James Brown afficionado, I absolutely remember Maceo back in the day. Not to take anything away from Mr Brown, but I think Maceo has added depth and substance since fronting this "2% jazz/98% funk" style . Alto sure seems to work well for him....and us, too.
Its before my time... but there was a time when people knew how to let loose and get down to this music. Its such a sad thing to see such a funky band and just a sea full of nodding heads..... The band is just asking .... "PLEASE... WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE BUST A MOVE RIGHT NOW!!!"
My dad hasn't lost any weight dude lol. God has been so good to my family and has blessed us all with great health and longevity in a business where most don't last. Check out Maceo Parker dot com to see when we will be in a city near you!
@@sizzlinskilletproductions6380 yes sir, bk when we attended a concert and heard a full band play with a horn section of course, no DJ needed, now the DJ maybe the headliner,, and I know that the audience today only wants a beat ,, and that’s all ur dumb azz is getting, don’t take me wrong, I’m mid 60s yrs young,, but the musicianship is what I’m talking about,, at least Jay Zee uses real musicians, and at least make more love songs , life was rough 50 years ago and we still struggling, so have fun taking folk out of their reality has always been a winning formula, Stevie does that all the time,, and yes he does real life, but beautiful,
Maceo Parker (Kingston N.C.) His stacco style can't be beat. damnnnnnnnnn. The two ppl you did not like this video are probably Supremist or Republicans (
