Rick from New Kings Road Vintage Guitar Emporium in London UK shows us a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Std owned by former Bon Jovi guitar player Richie Sambora, and John Squire from Stone Roses.
Had his management not snatched it up, you know John would've never let go of that thing. Not on his own accord. He said he didn't put that guitar down a single time during the recording of "Second Coming". It definitely inspired him a lot
this is the actual guitar that howls in "love spreads" of the stone roses......
best song from stone roses imho....the masterpiece.
It's actually not.. love spreads was a different Les Paul
@@rrapeez Which LP was it?
@@finnmccarthy4005 A yamano les paul I believe. See e.g. Aziz playing Love Spreads at Reading or John Squire in the WarChild video.
Wow! This is absolutely incredible. Its a weird combination I know but Stone Roses (especially Second Coming) and Richie Sambora are two of my absolute favourite artists! This is so weird, but brilliant!
The fact that this was the guitar played on the Stone Roses album is way more impressive to me than that it belonged to Ritchie Sambora.
The opposite for me.
I recall reading that Squire paid £20,000 for this Les Paul in the early 90s. It apparently had belonged to Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick too. Squire had commented that the neck 'resembled a map of Sweden' and that the guitar had a really smooth tone compared to a 'more spiky' '57 Les Paul Custom that he owned.
Ian McKeever managment owned it mush heard it from the horses mouth sadly he lost it but lets be honest his custom 3 pick up is alot better
I'll give you $300 PLUS my 2011 Les Paul Studio right now. My Studio looks like new! You'd be a fool to pass that up! (I'll even through in the headstock tuner)
Stopped by here today… They have some great guitars. Just went for a looksee which they were fine with. Unfortunately there aren’t many shops like this left these days. Worth a visit if you’re up that way. The owner is such a nice chap and has some great stories. Go treat yourself to something!
That is responsible for Love Spreads 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋
Damn you RUclips! Showing me this 8 years late, and also many years early as I definitely could not afford this.
Where is it now in 2022?
i wast really quite sure that man himself could come up with "love spreads" riff, now i got it ...
Lovely! It looks particularly clean for a life on the road. Can mere mortals just come see it if we haven't got the bank account to fund it?! I'd love to see a 59 in the flesh!
Would have liked to have heard it played.
Is that the les paul did richie played in bon jovi always live in london wembley 1995??
Sure sounded good on the Second Coming tours, surprised John didn’t try to buy it back
Would definitely be wiping that sambora signature off. That dudes a complete tool
So not only did the record company rob the stone roses blind but they even sold off John's guitars. And probably all the other equipment too.I kinda like bon jovi but the real draw here would be that guitar being responsible for the roses second coming albums sound.
To be fair, they weren't with Silvertone (the company that robbed them) when Squire got this guitar. They had already left the label, had a big court case and signed to Geffen when he got the guitar. The thing is that a lot of artists gear belong to the label, or the band as an entity. As far as i know, this guitar belonged to the band and not Squire personally, which is why it was sold by the management on behalf of the band.
The record company (not silvertone) owned the guitar and bought it for recording the album.
Did you ever resell this guitar? John Squire of the ROses was playing a similar one last week at their Madison Square garden gig in NYC.
I was thinking the same thing
Do u think that RS sold this guitar so that he could score more..??
Who was the owner prior to John and Richie owning it?
That guitar is special. Has someone bought this since original posting??
Don't know, Paul.
How did you aquire this gem?
What I wouldn't give to own that👌
View number 666. That's gotta be a sign!
LOL :-)
I heard richie tell a story about you and yoir shop. I want a great strat or les paul jr double cut. I want players grade. Fook cosmetics. How shoukd i contact you
How much do you reckon a 59 is worth today. Not this specific one, but one without such a pedigree.
Too difficult to say, lots of factors come into play for instance ones in flat colours are worth half as much as a 59 burst and likewise if they have bigsby they're worth a lot less. They're probably slightly cheaper in the UK because there is a lower demand for vintage guitars vs north America. Given the lacklustre flame on the maple but the fact that it has all the original electronics and parts and case I'd say about £70,000-£100,000

Many thanks for your reply. Great answer.
Celtic Saint no problem :)
How much did it sell for?
Don't know.
@@VintageandRare : once this lock down is over, I'll be heading to London with work. I shall be stopping in, I'll repost back here if I get an answer!
Are Lez Pauls more valuable than Les Pauls?
LOL. Yes very much :-)
No one is watching this video because of Richie Sambora.
ill give you 100 quid for it.thats my top.thats the value when they first made this guitar.so thats it.
Is this Rick from pawn stars
In this case, the signature doesn't increase the value. I can't imagine anybody's signature making a burst more valuable.
más música y menos palabreo
This is Rick that Richie Sambora spoke of. Thought ur store was called Ricks guitars.
shenanigans
Its not as good as my Epi.
I hope this comment was joke...
that bon jovi 2nd rate guitar player scrawled his name on that beautiful guitar SMH
the signature is not worthy of this guitar
Over priced and over hyped. When will guitarists realise it's not the guitar that makes you great, it's your ability to play! And yes I'm old enough to have owned and played all these so called great vintage guitars!
Martin Reid ever hear of a Stradivarius?
Martin Reid totally disagree.....some guitars just have MOJO, I was lucky enough to play a 57’ Strat that was once owned by a family friend....and the blues lines I was coming up with I still have no idea how it happened.....the guitar was just chocked with inspiration and MOJO
