- Jerry Hadley sings "Il lamento di Federico" ("E la solita storia") from L'arlesiana by Cilea, Julius Rudel conducting. Richard Tucker Foundation Gala, Avery Fisher Hall, New York, 1997.
I don't know how many times I've watched this clip....this must have been one of his finest hours.
I agree, this is SO stunning!
We have ignored him. If he had an active fan support system maybe it would have helped him get over his life's hurdles that drove him to do what he did. This is a reminded to everyone to care for their favorite artists and show support because these artists thrive on our love and admiration. Singing is their passion they chose to share their gift with us. We must always show respect and gratitude for the treasures they give us. Rest in peace our beloved artist.
Just realized - Jerry was loads better than he ever received credit for! Poverino!
Oh Jerry, Jerry so sad to listen to your beautiful, round, amazingly beautiful voice, technique and outstanding stage presence and know you were struggling with the sadness that leads to death. You’d have been among the greatest tenors of your generation and there wouldn’t be the gap that exists between Pavarotti, and the current voices. Rest in Peace! May your soul find the peace you so vehemently seeker 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I am very sorry to report that Hadley as of 7/11/07 has passed from us. A truly fantastic tenor. It is always humbling when such an artist as this leaves the world.
Wow! 16 years since the sad news circulated about his passing. RIP dear, unforgettable Jerry!!❤❤❤
This is sublime. Pure class, pure singing. If only the tenors our age can sing that way.
I love the risks he would take with some of those open vowels. He knew how to do it without pushing from the chest, so the sound was free and ringing. Very dramatic reading, and beautifully sung.
This is so haunting. Jerry seemed to cry out about his struggle and pain. I can see and hear his lamenting voice and that he wants to forget everything in his sleep. Song says "why do I have to suffer so much pain". Jerry is in peace now but dearly missed by so many.
I am weeping: I can feel his pain!!! Oh, May I NEVER AGAIN CAUSE ANOTHER’S pain!!! O Lord, let me suffer pain, before I cause it!!!
Man, that is the way this aria should be sung!
Now that was old school proper Opera!!!! Superb!!!!! BRAVO!!! 💐👏
Hauntingly beautiful. Am I hearing the emotional pain and lamenting from Jerry or from the song itself. I think both.
very good
I think he's a great example for a round and full tone lyric tenor voice type
I miss Jerry. He always gave his all when he sang at the Met Opera.
Although an American he sang with the passion of a tenor born in Italy.
May he rest in peace.
One of the best renditions! There is a cry in his voice!
Great Italian American tenor sounding eerily like one of his idols, Mario Lanza, on his "Live From London" album. I had the chance to attend a masterclass by Mr. Hadley (mothers maiden name was Palumbo, I believe) at University of Michigan. What a nice man and a great talent. May he rest in peace.
This is the first I've heard that Jerry Hadley was Italian-American, even though he sounds like one.
Wow, grand voice and artist Jerry Hadley is the proud tenor knows how to connect heart and soul, so naturally, Bravo!
It's a damn shame he left us :/ what a talent
His was such a beautiful voice, and I am so, so sad that he left us too soon. I sit here, crying; for the music, for the passion and beauty he brought to this aria.... and for our loss.
May he rest in peace.
Another magnificent voice cut off in its prime! Marvelous!!!
I can’t watch this again. It’s as if the light has gone out.😔
Lovely voice; lovelier person. RIP
His timbre is wonderful!!
Every tenor has sung this wonderful aria; Jerry Hadley is up there with the very best, exceptional in his expressiveness.
It is not for us to "fear" for a singers voice. If hearing the singer makes you queasy then don't listen. As far as crossing a line of being too emotional. For our generation of singers it is imperative that we break from the historical park and bark and truly own these incredible characters. Characters of such rich quality that they will persist long after our recordings have gone to dust. Hadley has soul in this performance. I would much rather the baring of the soul to the alternative.
Beautifully stated. Your words ring so true.
Yes. and need more not less. Opera will not survive without this spark of honest out pour of passion,
RIP
Such a great loss! His music will live on.
Hi was phenomenal, and sang with truly amazing technique. I adore his artistry a lot. Dear friend, rest in peace. 🤍
Cantava come un dio.
Very dramatic and emotional version
+ RoyalHunter2789 It gets me every time. Every. Time.
+Patty L Me too
WOW, I never heard this mans voice before.
Wonderful!
I was so fortunate to see him several times at SF Opera, once in Tales of Hoffmann, and once in Charpentier’s Louise, with Renee Fleming. Unforgettable voice ! RIP maestro
Grand tenor, old school glory!!!
Sublime...This is Opera voice...
Such a beautiful voice but tragically he took his own life RIP Jerry Hadley
Upon learning of Jerry Hadley's death, I went out and bought a copy of Moart's "Requiem" in which he sang the tenor solo in memory of him. He was one of the singers in the 1990's that I absolutely fell in love with - others being Dawn Upshaw, Carol Vaness, Cheryl Studer, Thomas Hampson and others of that caliber who really blossomed for me.Jerry was the greatest American tenor of recent years. Rest in peace, Jerry. along Opera Buff 1935
OperaBuff1935 inbelieve both Jerry and Cheryl studied with Tom lomanaco
It almost breaks ones heart to hear that cry coming from deep inside him! At times, he ignores the written notes and screams in pain!
he belongs to the operatic stage, beautiful yet painful to watch... that is why people go such a long mile to love opera.
I can hear Miller's technique here. Great job, my friend. We all miss you. Miller would definitely give you a shiny penny for this performance!
Hugely underated Tenor RIP
Outstanding!!
God Bless. May you find peace to your soul. I hope that joy and love await you. Thank you most sincerely.
I also loved Maestro Hadley,Lacitra, and Pavarotti, and Mario Lanza, who were also great tenors. They brought alot of beauty to our lives.Bless their memories. And the same for Jussi Bjorling, another great tenor taken too soon.God bless their memories they also shared their love with us,through their music.Martin Matsil
Five stars is not enough!
Thrilling as always.
I love it
What a sadly appropriate song for his situation...
¡Qué tenor tan magnífico!
MARAVILLOSO... fantástica dicción del italiano siendo norteamericano. Me enociona mucho su canto...
His mother was Sicilian I believe
amen to that!!!
FABULOUS!!!! What would have driven this man with such a voice to try and take his own life???
I have to agree...hands down, this is Hadley's song!!!!
This guy knocks me out!
Gone too soon 💔
Magnífica interpretación, voz de Oro.
Wonderful! Great great great voice!
Karlott
SUPERIOR. GRÀCIES.
I wish someone was there to help him..
que descanses en paz jerry... y que la otra vida te sea generosa, tierna y te de la felicidad que a muchos nos trajiste con tu voz.
I fully agree. Giuseppi di Stefano to Josep Carreras, followed - as an equal - to Carreras. (Forget the 3 tenors. Listen to
early youtube clips from Carmen, Traviata,
and the beautiful core n'grato.) In this - I love now other rendition more. I listen to this over and over. Also Jerry's "Vivi tu" from Anna Bolena. I, like many, was shocked and pained by his death by his own hand. He will not lose his place as one of the great American tenors. Neither here, or wherever he is singing now.
Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
r.i.p. Jerry :(
Jerry is/was his own universe. Not really Italian sounding, not really German or French, but everything he did was so genuine, so true. Great!
Rest in peace, brother.
OMG!
Beautiful!
Amazing, Sorprendente!
interpretacion del nivel de kraus. Creo que se entiende que es de lo mejor
Organboi, 2 yrs ago you said something that I agree with completely today. The good that could have been done with the trillions spent on phoney ass wars is so
lamentable. Hadley was brilliant. He is missed even today.
как рано ушёл в мир иной этот прекрасный тенор!
If Kaufmann could hear this he would start learning from Jerry
I believe Kaufmann's career began when he was understudy to JH for, I think, Werther and JH had to go home for the birth of his son. One wishes he had been listening more carefully then...
Nonsense..one is great Lyrico Spinto, the other is a Lyrico Dramatic Tenor..don't compare... Kauffman is intense, too
agree Kaufmann does not have a true Italian tenor sound and very little vibrato, more like a baritonal sound
of course Kaufman is not Italian but has more a baritone than tenor sound
John B
Kauffman is German...more an heroic Tenor...Jerry Hadley was a Lyric Tenor...who never sang Wagner...so stop comparing...just delight in two great Tenors...one sadly missed!!
This is very kind of you, thank you very much!
Belle voix - bien timbrée.
you've just made my LIFE! This is stupendous!
I`ve just painfully read in the comments below that he, well...don`t know how to say... isn`t here. I`m in shock. I`ve bought the Idomeneo dvd month ago. He is great as Idamante, gosh, he is so great. Idamante to fall in love with. gosh. Maybe those opera singers taking to seriously they job without any distance. They`re travelling all the time, not having families or any regular life. Only the MUSIC,MUSIC,MUSIC. If this is a price: FUCK THE MUSIC
Bye Jerry, you will be missed
I love Pav's version of this but I must say, this guy walks away from eveybody on this one.
ruclips.net/video/4dh-X7oEl1E/видео.html listen to this tenor. Singing is out of this world. As if his heart and soul were possessed with a crazy top note at the end to top it up.
@@zbigniewbialczak1692 yes, he was one of the great ones.
A true friend is there for you during good and bad times. My guess is that he had a lot of leeches-people who were there when the money and the fame were plentiful. As soon as that was gone so were they.
not always, depression is a disease, same with Cancer,
Wow!!!
Karlott
No, he is not dead yet but has been removed from life support and the news service says his death is imminent.
He shot himself in July 2007.........died in hospital in Poughkeepsie NY . Sad.
Has anybody heard what funeral arrangements were made for him? All I heard was that they would be private.
He was not my favorite tenor at all but I have to say that there's a video of Il Re Pastore where he sung with Silvia Mcnair and have to say that he was outstanding... I think that´s the way that all tenors must sing mozart: with balls in the voice, like men (and I do not mean volume). The tiny soprano that sung Il Re was very good too!
@petion2010 I'm sorry to say that I've seen no reports suggesting that it was accidental. I'm not sure where you get your information. I followed this tragic story very closely.
Why did he take his life?
Is it just me or is the instrument that plays that riff at about 33-35 seconds flat?? (oboe is it?) Sounds a bit flat to me after that violin lead plays.
Sounds like an English horn to me. And it's definitely too high.
What a loss. ;__;
This sad aria suits him well. Ten years later Jerry Hadley committed suicide.
So sad and tragic a loss.
@@nickbigd Yes. I wonder why he was so depressed.
Depression
Kaufman LISTEN
No no no
Attenzione al intonazione!
All this RIP? He's not dead yet. Be a little more sensitive to his family!
