I believe that its called a gantlet section of track often used when there is a constriction point on a line and the railroad does not want to install a pair of switches/points. The hazard is in not knowing if either track is occupying the gauntlet section. For use only on lightly trafficked lines, unless a signal system is installed.
note from the builder. its in wanganui new zealand..anyone welcome to come and drive the train....ph 021 269 7490 track is 30x10mm steel pre curved and hammered into grooved sleepers 400mm long....layout is improved now and a station getting built before end of 2021....going to be named Nikau Junction as the property is planted with many nikau palms since this video taken....will make improved video and show train also in new video when station is made....thank you for all the positive comments.....lots of fun to build and relaxing to drive at 8km per hour !! ian
The garden has a lot of potential. I am not wanting to be rude by saying that a beautiful railway is let down by some of the junk left lying around. A couple of friends and some beers could turn it into a wonderland.
I would put animal statues and Halloween monsters in the bushes around the tracks. Maybe Jurassic park stuff as well. Animatronic snake that jumps out. IDK very cool my friend.

Awesome track, that 3rd rail was genius, however it prohibits bi-directinal running through there. definitely a labor of love as I used to belong to a club that ran trains like that size track maint. of any kind was always a year round chore

If you look carefully there are actually two center rails to avoid the need for rail frogs.

How you build the mini train
buy lots of steel and wood make a track bender make lots of sleepers and cut slots to hammer steel cut bend weld and the fun can start good luck !
