  • In this video I show how I built a 12 volt Rotor for small Yagi, Moxon and Hexbeam antennas using a 2 rpm geared motor. The Original Idea came from my friend Steve, K1GMM, his channel is Green Mountain Maniac, check him out!
I found a different motor that is a little faster and a speed controller to change speed. I also found a coupler that should make the process easy for all to do

I posted parts for this build that I found that should give better control over speed and also a coupler to make the build easier. I will try and do a follow up video on the new parts!

and it alot easyer to build and laess pices needed to cut

You should try and use self-fusing tape for the joints that do not move, it is incredibly weather and sun resistant and waterproof.

KK6USY, this is totally doable, and you did all the leg-work for everyone! Instant LIKE! I went straight over to Amazon and ordered everything in 5 minutes. Kind thanks for taking the time to post this. Great design and can be weatherproofed with some dielectric grease. I'm planning to use mine on a permanent outdoor Yagi for my scanner. Greetings from Alaska.

I'm going to build a remore controlled one but it's going to be bulkier because I need the room for limit switches so it doesn't wrap the coax around

Interesting build...and your follow-up. I've been pondering this homebrew rotor project for a couple of years but haven't made it a priority. I'm about to. I had saved an older 12v DeWalt reversible drill to salvage the motor, chuck and switch. You've given me some ideas on the coupler with a flange for the antenna mount. Nice channel! 73 de K4FMH

Use a cheap used 12v model train transformer like a Bachmann that has a speed knob and that can regulate the speed and direction. They are on ebay frequently for $10. Then you dont need the switch.
