The F1 is truly a amazing car. It came out in 1993, it can do over 240MPH, 0-60 in 3.1, and a prototype did the nurburgringin 7:11. With modern tires it could probably get into the high 2s range for 0-60 and possibly even do a sub 7 minute lap. It took 16 years for a car to beat it around the nurburgring and it took 13 years for its top speed to be beaten. It is still a hypercar today which shows how bat shit insane it was in 1993. It is truly one of the best cars ever.
You're forgetting modern safety requirements. In 93 you could get away with a lot that now would add tons of bulk and weight if you tried to build one today.

Mclarens have always been a favorite for me. As a child I was obsessed with the F1. When the 12c came out I was super excited too lol. Not that I could afford one right now. The P1 is just an amazing technological marvel.
As a 13-16yo I used to bike past the Pop . McLaren garage in Meadowbank Auckland NZ, on my way to school. Often stopped to have a look at the cars in their workshop. Friendly bunch

But in the end he could not convince them to do it, and the McLaren F1 ended up equipped with a BMW engine

Miguel Garcia The reason they won't do it because Japan was in the bubble era economy and when it burst it makes manufacturer trimmed down costs and for that reason Honda politely refused the request. Beside Honda NSX has excellent record in national and Asian level series. Their Le Mans effort was spearheaded by all Japanese team, they are not used to Le Mans and had language barrier. Beside Honda engine powered McLaren F1 in the past with a success that Modern Mercedes hasn't yet achieved.

He and (1964 F1 World Champion) Denny Hulme won Driver To Europe scholarships from NZ motor racing clubs to fund their opportunity. Fellow kiwi Chris Amon joined them later and ended up racing for Ferrari in F1. Amon and McLaren won Le Mans together in a Ford GT40.

It's also worth pointing out that the F1 GTRs shown in the clips are the fabled Longtail version - all but three roadgoing F1s were Short Tails, which is why the former is so rarely seen in games.
Euhm, since you are all about history and background in your vids, I'm surprised you left out Honda out of the Mclaren history. Not only did it make Mclaren a legendary F1 team in the '80-'90 with Senna and Prost, it also was THE benchmark and inspiration for their fisrt road car the F1. God Gordon fucking Murray uses the NSX to set the handling standards for their F1 car, not Ferrari's. And he personally went to fucking Japan to ask Honda to build the V12 engine....but they declinded. That should be included and noted in the whole Mclaren history imo!!!
It was interesting to see a drag race between Mclaren F1 and Bugatti Veyron, it was surprising to see the F1 was quicker for the most part but the Bugatti won in the end. For a car which was built in 1993 competing with a car built much later the F1 clearly stands out. Mclaren F1 is the greatest ever road car built thanks to the engineering brilliance of Gordon Murray. Its my dream to own a Mclaren one day and that will be the proudest moment of my life. Go Mclaren.

Euhm, since you are all about history and background in your vids, I'm surprised you left out Honda out of the Mclaren history.
Not only did it make Mclaren a legendary F1 team in the '80-'90 with Senna and Prost, it also was THE benchmark and inspiration for their fisrt road car the F1.
God Gordon fucking Murray uses the NSX to set the handling standards for their F1 car, not Ferrari's.
And he personally went to fucking Japan to ask Honda to build the V12 engine....but they declinded.
That should be included and noted in the whole Mclaren history imo!!!

It was interesting to see a drag race between Mclaren F1 and Bugatti Veyron, it was surprising to see the F1 was quicker for the most part but the Bugatti won in the end. For a car which was built in 1993 competing with a car built much later the F1 clearly stands out. Mclaren F1 is the greatest ever road car built thanks to the engineering brilliance of Gordon Murray. Its my dream to own a Mclaren one day and that will be the proudest moment of my life. Go Mclaren.
