A Look At The Abandoned 1800's Mount Cobb Tunnel

- Join myself and the Wandering Woodsman as we take the trek to explore the Abandoned Mount Cobb tunnel. This tunnel, which was originally built in the 1800's, was used for the gravity railroad for the local coal companies. Although the tracks have been removed, the tunnel is used on a daily basis. It's part of an ATV park, called the "Lost Trails". Enjoy

Happy Thanksgiving. See you at 9pm.
Looks like a heck of a lot of fun.
I love this kinda stuff
Lol....the cliff trail.
That was a fun day
My Sunday binge watching videos I’ve started and didn’t finish for some reason!! Nice trip thank you both!
A gravity railroad had no engine, it would have just been smaller coal cars. Gravity and animals were the engine. :)
Wow beautiful!!
Fantastic piece of history. Thanks 😊
Thanks for a beautiful video
You're welcome
Watched both yours and Cliff's videos. Awesome place. Will be watching for the ATV version. Thank you.
Unfortunately they dont rent ATV's anymore
@@JPVideos81 that would have been fun. No worries because you'll find very cool experiences to share with us because you seek them and recognize them when you find them. Thanks JP
Loved the video:) NIce hike.
Thank you
Nice to see both your videos, very interesting. Thanks
You're welcome
Cool video! Enjoying your take as well after seeing Wandering Woodsman’s view last night. Always awesome when 2 or more explorers on RUclips team up and film together.
We seem to work well together. More videos on the way.
JPVideos cool!
Now I have to check out Cliffs take on it.
Very cool video
Great cave being able to drive through it. Beautiful area as well.
Its a cool piece of history.
Great history lesson, so much to learn about nature and the structure that man makes. I didn't know much about railroads or what it took to build them but even abandoned or not beautiful video, thanks JP for the tour
You're welcome steph
Actually the two rows of stones on the trail are the RR ties, they didn't start using wooden ties until later in the 1800"s.
Awesome location
Thanks brother. I knew you'd like this one.
3 large reservoirs and a tunnel that mountain has some of the best riding around rode those trails long before it became something that you had to pay to ride now its all part of the lost trails start at Warhorse in dunmore and go up the old drinker tnpk across 435 and up the old lift planes its really is an amazing area
I love your adventure videos and pictures. I have subscribed to your friends channels too. 💓
Thanks
Love seeing you two exploring together. Making my way back through the older 'finds' Cliff. Stay safe Jay & Cliff
Thanks shelley
That was a fun venture .. Thanx!
Nice video 👍
Ty Jay🙏🙂
Ty Paula
So cool that the tunnel has been around so long. Hope the ATVs didnt get you two all wet!! Awesome views of the lake. Your pictures are amazing.
Little wet, but i didnt melt lol
I bet that was loud in the tunnel. Beautiful area.
As someone who grew up riding dirt bikes and atvs, i didnt mind it.
I grew up in Mt. Cobb. The old gravity line ran right behind my house. We had 3 rock cuts and a man made tunnel that the Wallenpaupack creek coming from Moosic Lake ran through. I spent many hours walking those trails. When I got older and bought an ATV, I got to expand my explorations and went through the tunnel hundreds of times.
Its a cool location
Love the nature walk and especially thecstill pictures.
Thanks
i liked how the rocks were different colors but speaking of tunnels i watched THE ROAD last nite on you tube oh my god jp what an awesome movie! i never heard of it and i saw the tunnel you filmed earlier!! that guy went thru everything to help him and his son survive very moving wow
Yes, good and sad what they did.
Great video! Did you make it back yet with an ATV?
Not yet, maybe later this summer
Love this video , really enjoyed it ... hope you and your family had a great thanksgiving ...
Same to you
Great video Jay, Now I got to go watch Cliff's video of it... I guess I got to start going back and watching more of your videos before I subscribed 😩... Believe it or not last night I thought I stumbled upon this abandoned tunnel following the old rail line on Google Map... I was chatting with Mike about it, at first thinking that I might have found something no one else and stumbled across... Now, I'm realizing I got to try harder to find somewhere you haven't been😩... LOL
He told me about that today lol
Brilliant video, looked fun.
Love it! Looking forward to the atv video.
I grew up in jessup and spent alot of time on the mountain riding my dirt bike the two tunnels were part of the gravity rail line
Its a nice area for exploring or riding
This and Cliffs video made for a good time. Very interesting history.
J, I tried to add a comment to @justaseagull8406 but it wasn't having it. But anyway I think they are dead on. Those are called "sleepers". For the most part they are an East coast thing and even then only a few rrs used them. They were old tech by 1840.Common in Great Britain, I've seen them often in pics of Welsh and Cornish mine rrs. Personally I think they are even cooler than the tunnel. Another great vid.(If you haven't already guessed I'm a trainiac) 😊
Happy Thanksgiving
Same to you
What a beautiful place.I always love your video's. JP you are the one that started me on this adventurers with you. I love it💞
Thank you so much Paula. That means a lot.
Either you set your camera on a timer for that last shot, or you had one of the guy's take it.
Either way JP, thanks for taking us along, again ✌😉🖑
Wow look what the wind blew in haha. Long time no comments. Nah, just set the camera down and let it record and i screen grabbed the image.
@@JPVideos81
😁😁😁😁
Yeah, I've been kinda busy with work and other things.
Hope you and yours had a Happy Thanksgiving.
Peace JP✌😉🖑
Enjoyed every minute..Glad we got home in time ..I put the pedal to the metal LOL...Hope y'all had a nice Thanksgiving.
Slow down speed demon lol
Beautiful country and cool tunnel, thanks for sharing and for adding the history you could find. Amazing that it is so structurally sound after 150 years! Hope you and yours had a great Thanksgiving! Gave thumbs up as always!
Same to you man. Appreciate your support.
JPVideos Thank you, but is the opposite, we appreciate all that you do!!!!!!!
You imagined that you were in Sherwood Forest, While Cliff was in His "Element". :)
😊
Hi, another interesting video. Noticed Cliff with you. He was in other videos along with Mike of Naturing several times. None recent. Do you still include them in yr videos?
Haven't filmed with them in a while, but open to it again.
It was really good luck to catch those ATV's coming through. It was cool to see them come through the water like that. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)
Thanks Tess. Right place, right time.
Good job! ! Loved it.the woods, terrain, and scenery is like here where
Thanks for the video!!! Just curious, does the trail and tunnel dry up in the Summer?
Depends on rain. It gets down to a trickle, but never completely dries.
Did you boys locate the old pump house adjacent to the Gravity tunnel with the old pipe tunnel that daylights down in the junkyard in its lower underground basement? Also on that same site there is another tunnel which daylights down near the Porsche racing guy's property on 247
No, first time im hearing about it. This was Cliff's location, so i wasn't familiar with anything in this area.
Where does that tunnel come out i lived across from the Porsche guy there's waterfalls behind him and ive been all through there and have never found another tunnel
I've been through that tunnel a few times growing up riding ATVs with my dad. It used to be full of water end to end.
Wow, thats crazy to have that much water.
How about the "Slave Tunnels" or rather "Silver Mines" from Lake Sheridan to the Nicholson Bridge, very neat graffiti carved in the rock walls within two of the six, not to mention the stope shafts that descend at a 60° angle all merging roughly two hundred feet below the surface in a larger room with a ceiling of fifty foot high by one hundred and five feet in diameter boasting a crystal clear stream that disappears into a wall of large bodied quartz rock... neat place
Wasn't aware of it. If you have directions to it can you email me? jpvideos81@gmail.com
Even though not really my thing enjoyed watching the video, made me cold with wind blowing even though still August. I'm guessing based on comments was around Thanksgiving last year? Thx for sharing and would love to see you ride thru tunnel!
Yes, fall time
I watch The WW, like him. That water must be used for drinking water? Great video, beautiful place. I just got new ear buds. Had to turn them way down. Was picking up the water, bikes and wind really loud. The sound of the trees blowing is nice..
Sorry for the noise.
JPVideos the new ear buds I got are cool. The sound was great. Just like I was there. Especially the trees. ❤️👍🏼
The whole area is ruined by the business down the road by opening it up to dirt bikes and quads. The greed never stops.
We need somewhere to ride theres lots of space there to ride seems like a great idea to me stay out of the woods if you dont like it and paying for it makes sure its taken care of just saying
@@mikemazz3377 The quads are ripping up the trails and causing erosion.
@stevemitchell7981 the winters do more damage than the couple hundred riders that use it we need somewhere to ride and people are making it so we cant ride anywhere instead of getting into trouble and becoming and alcoholic and drug addict which is prevalent in our area(the alcoholism is bred into the people around here ) i went riding on the mountain and ot kept me out of trouble we need places like that mountain to ride and 90% of people who do ride it make sure to take care of it and keep it clean just saying
Happy Thanksgiving! Cool video! Tunnel was a very good shape.
Great video....whats the link if there is one of the coal mine visit before this adventure?
Gave you the thumbs up. It was nice meeting you that day; sweet channel! Keep up the awesome content!
Thanks for giving me some good footage.
Love the scenery
So beautiful!!🍂🍁
Another great video 👌🏽
If you followed the railroad bed out like you were you would have came out near Moosic Lake about .5 miles from where you parked. But you have to know which way to go at the intersections. It's a long way around, you were better off cutting through the woods like you did. Unless of course you came to a swamp!
@Chris Kiehart No, the park is about 10 miles away.
I'll be watching. Good luck
Great video... Tunnel is awesome . I was just waiting to see if one of the atv's or dirt bikes would sink in that hole lol
Would of made for some great footage.
What an excellent find! Great pictures and video and the scenery was wonderful to see. Wow, all those ATVs, motorbikes had guts! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Thanksgiving! What a beautiful area and the tunnel is very cool!
It is great that it is used now, but there is a place where I live in Williams Lake Canada that the Forestry built Fire Towers in the region for forest fires that in the olden days ppl would stay in the summer months and signal to other towers if they see any smoke from any fires. but it got to be a popular destination for mountin bikers with the trails so the forestry tore it down now only one remains.
That’s very near my home. I have been up there on the old gravity line and tunnel so many times in my life that I cannot count. There is several other places to enter those trails that are closer to the tunnel. But you did enter in a place that has great view. The tunnel was used to transfer coal to Carbondale. And there was a lower spur off that tunnel that moved coal to the Hawley area. The rail cars used were much smaller than a standard locomotive. I believe that the video you did of the old rail line near Glenmaura was also connected to this line. The Gravity railroad.
Awesome info
It looks like you could have made it out of the tunnel around that giant puddle. Do you think you could have made it? Nice shot of all those guys going through! I think the person on the bike was QT! He recognized you and was showing off for you, lol.
You guys are going to have to run to beat the motor bikes. Lol
Geesch, lots of bikes, last one, 🏃.
I cant wait to rent one.
JPVideos does look fun.
Never got to meet you before I moved. :(
Thats not good...
@@JPVideos81 I'm in a warmer climate. lol
@@tanyacreedon no one likes a bragger... haha
@@JPVideos81 :P lol
@@tanyacreedon are you on fb?
It’s big enough to drive a Jeep through we drove through it all the time
It would have been nice if they had offered to give you a ride
Would of been too messy
@@JPVideos81 oh ok
That was a beautiful view of the lake so I have suggestion on your bucket list if you have one go to Lake Cushman in Washington state is absolutely beautiful👍
Ill jot that down. Thanks
You parked on the opposite side of the mountain. Better access from state route 348
Was still a nice hike
No locomotives ever ran through the tunnel, only coal cars. I have photographed the area and I do have some historical pictures of the gravity railroad on my website, located here:
www.nepaview.com/pcc-gravity-railroad.html
What a great end to Thanksgiving! I’ll be home by 9. I hope. If my sisters get their act together lol.
Great scenery lovely photos you should have had your Wellington boots on for the water have a lovely weekend xx
I go Mountain biking here and never knew there was a tunnel.
Its pretty awesome
Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃

Great video of Mt. Cobb Tunnel. Have you checked with Dunmore Historical Society for early photos of tunnel? (located off Drinker Street through the corners left on Tripp an old church). Good luck in future adventures.
I did find a photo after i edited the video. Too late though.
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🦃

Hope you find cool stuff
JP, did you take the good lights with you??☺ Seeing the water make me want to go fishing 🐟🐠🐡🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟. that looks really cool, I would like to ride an ATV through the tunnel.🙋👏👏👏👍👌👏👏👏👏👍👌👍👌👍👏👏👏👏👏
I did take one of the lights.

Piece of leftover rail on the right around 21:36 or so?
You guys have awesome videos! If you're ever around Johnstown or Pittsburgh area let me know! I know of a couple cool places that you guys could do a collaboration video
I hope to make it out to Pittsburgh next year.
I DON'T THINK I WANT TO GET WET. QUITE INTEERESTING.
Mud city 😁
Great video , beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing on Thanksgiving.
We could hear veryclear thru the whole video.
Then my microphone did its job.
Hi Jay, the only history I could find of the tunnel is this - www.steamphotos.com/Railroad-Photos/Abandoned-Railroad-Tunnels/Pennsylvania-Coal-Co-Tunnel/ I also found some historical images too here - www.nepaview.com/pcc-historical-images.html Brilliant video, I think you may be in the doghouse with Cliff though for going the wrong way, oops lol. I loved this video, thank you. x
Haha,thanks
