- Taking My Friend On Her First Backpacking Trip | Backpacking Washington State| Chain Lakes Trail // When Plan A fell through for backpacking up to Sahale Glacier in the North Cascades this summer, I quickly found a Plan B - go backpacking for two nights up to Chain Lakes Trail, behind Stevens Pass off of Highway 2 in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area.
One of the best parts about this trip was that I got to take my friend on her first backpacking trip ever. I think it’s safe to say she was hooked after this trip.

Loved the end! No backpacking trip is complete without a stop at Zeke’s!!!
Agreed!! Zekes is one of my all-time favorite post-backpacking meals!
Beautiful spots! Awesome adventure
Thanks!
I just got back from taking a friend on her first trip. I gave her some of your videos to do as homework before - especially about cold weather layering. She's now obsessed!
This is so incredibly awesome. Thank you!
Wow …..those views are what Bob Ross put down on canvases…. Thanks for sharing .
The views were unbelievable out here!!
Beautiful…Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful area
Thank you again "Famous" for taking us along on your trip.❤☕🍳
Thanks for coming along with me! 😀
So fun to take a newbie backpacking, And what a great place to take her! That is totally my fear too! Always overpack snacks!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 😀
Thanks Kathleen for sharing the beautiful scenery and pairing the music with it . Looks like your friends really enjoyed themselves almost as much as you did. Thanks Tim C.
Yay! Thanks for watching.
You did a fantastic job catching the beauty of this trip. 👍👍
Truly a beautiful place
Thank you! I had a hard time putting the camera down out here because it was so pretty.
You said 1800 feet over 2 miles and I said woah! Washington is sooo beautiful 🤩 Love your adventures. Thanks for sharing 🤗
That was, hands down, the hardest part of the hike to get to Chain Lakes. 100% worth it though!
Wow. Just gorgeous.
I can’t wait to come back here to this area. It was GORGEOUS!!
Amazing hike and views as always. Looks like yall had great time, cant wait to see what 2022 brings!
Thank you!
Wow amazing...I think your videos are getting better and better 👏🏼 👌 please keep up the great work. Can't wait until the next time
Thank you!
I hope you can do a “hike with me” day. I want to join you personally as a newbie in hiking. I really want to do camping. I do day hikes being new to this country. I live in WA btw.
If I ever leas any group hikes, I’ll be sure to put the word out. Right now, I don’t have anything in the works. Maybe sometime in the future when I have more time…
Great job on the video. I also struggle with carrying too much food.. I will have to add this to my list of places to go
Yay and thank you!
I just Hiked Section J of the PCT last month, this video made me "homesick" for the trail and I'm going to have to add chain lakes to my list!
Chain Lakes is BEAUTIFUL. I’d love to go hike it again.
10:43 The serene alpine lakeside/stream-side nap. There are not many better things in life... no? I've logged many miles for those.
Lakeside naps are always the best
Woot! Now that looked like a nice cold trip🥶 well the 1st part 😋 packing too much food/snacks is a minor problem unlike a full size axe or 150' of rope😱 and the after hike burger and rings looked pretty bomb too!
That’s backpacking in the PNW for ya!
That climb up to the lakes is so worth it, yeah? I was up there with some friends in mid September. We set up near the outlet of the middle lake which was really good but we regretted not staying where you did once we saw it. Great video!
Thank you and yes, that steep climb up was totally worth it. I’d do it again. 😀
What an epic place 😍
It certainly was.
Had a forest ranger tell me years ago that the Doelle Lakes are actually pronounced Doo-Lee, who knows why. I always pronounced it the same as you. There's a "route", trail abandoned some time ago, from Doelle Lakes down to Frosty Pass. From there you can go back down to Icicle Creek and loop out. So many possibilities in that area.
I bet the forest ranger is right. I had only seen “Doelle Lakes” both in the guidebook and on a map. I wouldn’t be surprised if I mispronounced it. I’ve heard about the thru-hike from Stevens to Leavenworth. People still do it even though the trail isn’t maintained. I’d love to do it one day. I LOVE that area back there. ❤️
I’m pretty sure I just watched something to add to my to-do list!! Thank you for the gorgeousness that’s gotten scarce in Cali ❤️
I love this! Glad I got to help inspire a future backpacking adventure!
@@TheHungryHiker I’ve been to some pretty far away places. You’re 100% an inspiration to check out some amazing places in my own country! I’m not entirely sure, but I think I “binge watched” some of your vids of PNW?? 🤔😉
Have a great weekend!!
That’s awesome! 😀
You should try backpacking Spade and Venus Lakes.
I’ll have to check that out and possibly add it to my list. Thanks for the suggestion!
Beautiful!!
Thank you! 😊
Absolutely breathtaking!! That meal at the end omg. And your donut tube...amazing. This is such a beautifully made video. How long did this take you to make?
Thank you! This video was so much fun to make. Aside from the actually shooting of the video, it takes me a couple of days to put them together. This is with juggling life and a full-time job. I’m getting faster at putting these together though each week. 😀
@@TheHungryHiker Wow! Well you are doing an awesome job!
Thank you!
I love this spot ♡♡♡, my hubby and I are doing an epic trip and when we get to that area I will make sure to hit this loop. Thank you again for sharing!!! PS, what is the brand of your hoody I really like it. Thank you again.
This is a must visit spot if you’re out in the area. The hoody you’re referring to is my Melazana MicroGrid fleece dress. I included a link to the dress in the video description. 😀
@@TheHungryHiker thank you…stay healthy and happy hiking❤️
Thank you!
I have to know if Stacy is a regular backpacker now!
She is!
This place has been added on my list few months back. But unfortunately I went somewhere. Hopefully next year go there for 2 nights
Definitely put this one on your backpacking list!!
Loving your channel! Can you clarify which lakes you visited on this trip?
I thought it was pretty clear…Chain Lakes with a stop at Josephine Lake on the way there and back, all located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness here in Washington.
@@TheHungryHiker My bad. I was confused because (A) there's another Chain Lakes trail up near Baker and (B) I wasn't seeing this trail on my map so I thought "Chain Lakes" was a nickname for some other lakes further along on the PCT. I see it now though ;)
@@jackhollenbach Glad to hear that I helped clear this one up for you. For more hiking/backpacking inspiration, I highly recommend checking out the guide book, "Alpine Lakes Wilderness: The Complete Hiking Guide" by Nathan Barnes & Jeremy Barnes (published by The Mountaineers). This is how I found Chain Lakes originally. It was love at first photo!!
Any plans to hike the Appalachian mountains?
None at the moment.
Yay top 10 likes and top 10 comments
Thanks for watching! 😊
What song is at 9:30? It’s amazing
I get all the music for my videos from Epidemic Sound. I think the song you're asking about is "Mt. Fuji" by Ooyy & Smartface. Hope that helps!
i used to make an annual trip to Blanca Lake..then i bought a house, and got lazy, and lost trail legs.
You can still get out there and find those trail legs! 😀
