One small suggestion for future missions: doing a loop course will stress the motors on one side a lot more, if you turned your waypoint mission into more of a figure 8 it would even out the work both sides are doing a bit. I love the idea of this bot just trundling around in a field all day, hope your Barbie gearboxes make things work!
I made a "battlebot" type robot with those kind of motors and won second place against much more sophisticated and expensive competitors. In the end, my choice of surplus, used batteries (batteries were not very affordable back then) is what failed and not the motor packs. I think the only reason that they were not commonly used back then was that they had non-standard drive outputs and 3D printers were not a thing. I ended up taking a welding class, specifically to make adapters for them.
Now if you add a metal detector and gps based mapping software that records each detection for you to go back and find the metal later-Then you have something!
Something I invented years ago, you made it possible and automatic once this is perfected. Think of it: you could have this autonomously find metal in large areas, taking most of the leg work out of the equation. Excellent videos, I watch them all.
Genius idea, sellable for sure
Cool for finding mines
@@MarcAntoineBvl Another genius idea, also sellable, but for a life saving purpose. That is a multimillion dollar idea many large countries would use.. but surely it already has been tried
For marking, a solenoid controlled spray can, or small flags, fired into the ground, might prove simpler to manage as you don't have to use mapping. Pair that with a a random search pattern, and you'll have detection from multiple directions, to make detection more reliable. Leave in a field for a week, and check the markings armed with your pinpointer only. Could use different colors for ferrous and nonferrous?
I have done metaldetecting for years, and i can say this wont work like you said. You need to move detector side to side like once per second. That needs a motor system and causes wobble. Then, metal frame and wires will cause interfearance with the detector. Also, you really need to hear the signals from the detector by yourself so you can skip like nails and stuff like that. That come only with human experience. Cool idea tho
"I chose the cycloidal gearbox because it looks cool"
Yeah, that's basically how we all make decisions at this point.
That's just as fine a reason as any.
Man, I usually never comment on RUclips, but I have to say I really look forward to each one of your videos. I really enjoy the content and all your effort! Keep it up!
Ikr, I'm so excited when he uploads
I looked through all my notifications and out of dozens his was the first I went to.

Yeah, this is pretty cool!
You’ve got all 3 now: autonomous air, water, and now land vehicles
*SPACE*
Now to get the air to launch from and land on either of the other two.
What he should do is create and autonomous boat to launch and autonomous plane that drops an autonomous rover that launches and autonomous rocket into space.
Lava?
And all changed when the autonomous fire nation attacked...
Should named the rover Perseverance II
As always, your projects are entertaining, enlightening, and inspiring. Just wish I were 50-years younger. Thank You for sharing your efforts.
Clemson!
What would the world be like today if we had the internet and you tube 50 years ago?
I need to lose 50 myself!
noise L
The absolutely coolest thing in this project was the 3d-printed cycloidal gearbox at the end. Really neat plug-and-play solution!
you sir are my hero. ive wanted to build this exact thing for years. and you did it alone and cheap. nice work brutha. subbed
Since I started watching your channel, I am so impressed and PUMPED to try some of your builds!! Thanks!
Very cool project. I like seeing all the failure points and the steps you take to overcome them.
This has really super good basic and quality engineering. Thanks man!
That's pretty cool! Ive always enjoyed your Ardupilot videos!
Hey man, thanks for providing something to watch. I'm quarantined at home right now. Thank you! Stay healthy!
Tracks... like from a tank. Also, use RC car ESCs for reverse.
Its hard to find custom tracks, 3d printers are really the easiest thing to make them, and I can be fiddly dealing with sprockets, harder then wheels, but yes your right, it needs them
Would not track be prone debris?
Tracks are better to traverse any terrain, but they require more frequent maintenance.
Quality vid! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Nice work, looking forward to the next episode 👍
Really cool, you always create new entertaining project. Appreciate it 👍
I really like these autonomous projects :)
Love your videos Daniel. Such an inspiration for my own projects!
I liked this way more than I was expecting. Again, I don't know how you do it but you make these things super interesting.
Super cool video, Will be looking forward to the next one!
Coolest video in a while, er, since your last video. KEEP IT UP!
You do great projects. Well done.
just clicked on this dudes channel and the video was uploaded 40 seconds ago bruh
And you didnt feel the need to say 'first!' like a fkn child. Man i hate those people. Good onya
always pleased to see one of your videos is up..
Nice work, looking forward to the next episode
Another interesting project... I look forward to part 2... 👍
I really like these way point mission project videos!
Those are some excellent welding shots.
Now I want to make one. The idea of having a rover doing it's thing is so cool
To you this may be like nothing but I cant tell you how impressive you are. I can not wait to see what you do every video. Just so impressive.
Great video, thanks!
Love the way you fitted in both sponsor spots one after another. Did they agree to that?
rovers are nice. hoping to see more of this!
Your RUclips channel is getting to inspiring for me I been doing electronics my whole life not like this but damn. I’m really really impressed lol
I think that gearbox is the coolest thing I've ever seen 3D printed
you are my ACTUAL favorite youtuber
You're kind of awesome....for that reason I subscribed....excellent projects.
well done!
Finally an awesome video
I like him and his channel so much, man teaches us.
Love this idea
Hoverboard wheels with in-wheel motors are also very usable and reduce complexity. We're using them with two dummy wheels on the front and 2 wheel drive for our rover. Also, weight wise it might be good to use flexible solar panels.
Well done
Very innovative
Very cool. I made lighting from a solar battery in my workshop balcony.
Great video, I’ve been thinking about building a moon rover style solar rover but as a robotic lawn mower with camera
Cool project👍🏻
Air, Sea, Land, what else do you want to master on autonomous vehicles? This is impressive, I love it!
5:58 I thought he was about to start rapping...
Hi I am just a kid and I just want to say I’m fascinated with the stuff you do my life I always want to stuff like you do and you’re inspiring me I just love it and I love your videos keep up the good work your the best!!!! 😃🤟
Can’t wait for episode 2!
Love the gearbox its like push me pull you :)
I can’t believe I’ve never seen this channel before. It’s almost embarrassing.
Well I subscribed and hit the bell and thumbs up. Looking forward to seeing this beautiful creation when you revamp it.
This guy is like "hold my beer, NASA"
You can flash the firmware on the multi rotor esc to support bidirectional motors. Nearly all esc's can do it. Even tiny whoop drones can be flashed for 3d inverted flight.
Good job,
This is awesome! Consider using wheels with grousers like the Mars rovers. Should work well on soft terrain. For a smaller rover this size I would increase the grouser size in comparison to Curiosity to like 2cm with a 10cm wheel diameter. A simple wheel like that should be 3D-printable as well!
I usually never write yt comments but your content is so interesting and good that i have to look forward to your next videos!!
🙄♻️🐴💩... copycatting the top comment. how trite you are
If you separate the wheels and glue the tires to the rims with silicone you can drop the air pressure to almost 0, way better traction and a little bit of suspension
very creative
I don’t know if they’re made small enough for things like this, but a pair of treads would probably help traction and steering (also a lot cooler)
Great video! Looking forward to the next one. Did you upload the printed gear to thingiverse or anything? I'm making a similar project using the cheap power wheels motors but for a electric lawnmower! Great stuff!
cant wait for ep 2
You could try and re flash the motors esc to receive the rc pwm signal.
this man out here making a mars rover in his garage
impressive!!!
holy shit man you can't just skip over that cycloidal gearbox! I've never seen that before and it looks insane!
Rad. I want to see more of the gearbox haha!
Very cool indeed.
Dude this reminds me when you built that little rc car way back from the beginning
Love you channel
...so I designed an additional 3D printed cycloidal gearbox with a 13:1 reduction ratio that goes in series with the Barbie Jeep gearbox........ ooooofffff course ya did!! LOL. I'd expect you to 3D print a cold fusion reactor next to power the thing. Great job on this.
Nice, I started something similar and never finished. I went big, too big. This size is great, if it takes a few days to recharge so be it.
good video
Super cool
That's really cool! Maybe add more of those grips on the wheels, maybe 4 per wheel, and it will be pretty good I think. For the GPS mount wonder if having a little antenna tower would work too, though I guess it would cast a shadow on the solar panels.
you can probably make a tower from see through stuff like acrylic(though i don't know how reliable acrylic is)
Gears are really cool.
Can't wait for V2!!
I love how you leave your projects to run and come back hours later
I want to make one like this with a mower attachment. I was thinking of adding steering to each wheel. If you could angle them in combination with the motor drive differential and avoid skid steering, it should improve traction.
I'm collecting materials to do the same. I was thinking of 2 drive wheels and 1 swivel wheel, that way it can go back and forth and change directions.
@@tigeroll that design works fine for flat surfaces with predictable traction, but if one wheel falls in a hole or spins, there is no backup traction to get you out. My zero turn mower is made this way and it gets stuck on hills and wet grass easily. If a wheel starts slipping going down a hill, there is no way to steer it.
@@michaellowe3665 Brilliant TY.
0:36 and that right there is a new sub for you.
Start with a golf cart, it's made to travel on grass easily. Even better get automated golf cart and program it to your solar needs! ;)
Awesome.
Hello!! Great build, can you please share some information about the chain and the pulley for the chain?:) I'm working on a different project but I really need some traction system
Now you gotta find a 7-year old kid to name this one (if you understand the reference)
Make them write an Essay on why that should be the name
@@ronaldpm Better in what way? lmao! It's just a name dude.
7 year old Thesaurus searcher extraordinare wins Nasa award for choosing common word.., next on the 5 o clock news
Oh...this is going to be so cool.
I love that you used tupperware in this project as well!
EDIT: 2:00 YOU HAVE BEEN REPLACED
Impressive
Need a video on that gear drive!
Great project! Have you thought of tracks, similar to some snowblowers,or is that cost prohibitve?
Please make a video in which you explain how to setup the electronics for the waypoint missions
Would be great yeah.. Maybe on a second channel?
@@MarcAntoineBvl Why on a second channel?
He could make it on this channel´.
I´m sure there are many people which would like it!
simply because it was super cool
I love this. I want one
hey man love the rover please keep making update vids on it
Waiting for episode two! :) from Philippines
Me to frome ph
