Pleasure to hear from you, Neti Ramakrishna Garu. I hope all is well with you.
Being a classmate and colleague of Dr. BMK, my mother's guru Neti Srirama Sharma Garu aka Sangeetha Mastergaru taught a lot of BMK compositions such as the Shanmukhapriya Varnam, Brihadeeswara, Ganamalinchi, Ganalola and Nee Saati Neeve Ranga. When I was a child and whenever we traveled to Hyderabad from the US, we would visit his house. Knowing my interest in music, he would quiz me on ragams by playing them on the violin and I would get them right. I can never forget his version of Chakkani Raja Margamu which I believe is the true authentic version of Thyagaraja's krithi as it was taught by Parupalli Garu. As I write this with sadness, I can imagine him and Dr. BMK performing for the Almighty 🙏.

It is written in the musical sky:
“When the crowd is ready BMK is ready to serve the best music of the special
Muraliganam genre which he alone can ready cook and give. “
His music comes out as if it flows from an Akshayapaathram which Saraswathi Devi gave him as a boon just like the one Sreekrishna gave Draupadi. The crowd in that auditorium must have been so wonderful. That is why the nectar flowed like a river. I wish I were one among the audience.
I heard Shamkaraabharanam alone in this concert for the time being. I am of the opinion that 29th melakartha is to be renamed as BMK also along with its original name “Shankaraabharanam” . The BMK singing is so magical every where he sings it.
The audio uploaded is almost near perfection. I can’t ask for more.
As I always maintain he brings in improvisations in each of the songs he sings. We can expect some novelty in all the kritis and ragas he sings.
I remember the one Shankarabharanam he sang at Kochi at my request in the year 1982 or 1981. And for me it was the best I had heard from any one in classical music. Later I happened to hear this raga from BMK at Cheruthuruthi in Kerala , etc and now I know that his name is a synonym of that Raga .
I did notice a special type of swara combination in the neighbourhood of about 54.23 minutes or so in the concert . I don’t know what that sweet piece is. Can any one translate the one or two Muraliganam phrases into their corresponding swaraas?
Then look at the elegant simple looking but wonderful “kanakku” through out the kalpanas Swara areas. Special focus is into within about 1.32 to 1.35 hours.
Towards the end he shows Muraliganam is western notes too.
Dear Jayaram Sir, What a shankarabharanam! It is a Lavangi.
The Sanskrit word Lavangi means a celestial Sundari. And BMK Shankaraabharanam is her… No?
: But I have a doubt. Does this raga suit the lyrics ? I googled for the meaning of the lyrics. And BMK followed the Saint.. Can you write about the suitability of this raga for the Nhava envisaged in the lyrics?

Very few artists managed to sing with absolute impeccable sruti and who gave utmost importance to sruti - Ramnad Krishnan, MDR, KVN, Voleti, Nedunuri, Somu and BMK.

Well said, sir! And I'd like to add voice modulation and living the sahitya which all 7 of them followed especially BMK who reveled in both.

      1) Are you a disciple of MS Govindaswamy sir?
      2) Is he known as MSG or MSGS?
      3) Who was his guru?
Anyone can answer these questions and provide more information about MS Govindaswamy sir.

Yes sir, my friend and fellow devout muraLi gANam lover Balu Krishna has spoken highly about MS Govindaswamy sir. It is good to know that he has played for you in your vocal concerts.
Did you attend any concerts of Dr. BMK while growing up in Karnataka? What are your favorite memories of him?

. He is known as MSG a very simple and humble artist mostly understated for his musical accomplishments if I may say so.. I have seen him accompany Great performers of yester years in live concerts in Bengaluru..His Vrithidharma of Violin Sahavaadya is simply adorable..He is also a great Solo performer..
