I owned this one. Sold it. Replaced with a Taylor Koa. And now I wish I had kept it! The Taylor sounds so thin and has no low end. Oh, and it was twice as expensive.

I have the full mahogany version of this guitar and it's a real pleasure to play and even watch it. The réflexion of light on the mahogany curves of this body is pure enchantment.
Whereas I never cared much for the Cort electrics looks-wise, many Cort acoustics are absolute eye candy to me, and this one is no exception. And you just gotta love that tone…
I got this guitar recently and I'm very impressed! All frequencies from low end to high sound clear and resonate beautifully. The guitar wood with the open pore blackwood is awesome!
Cort. The company that built itself on paying its workers in Korea below minimum wage then, when they unionised and demanded minimum wage, got rid of them all in an illegal mass firing and moved to Indonesia. What a company to be promoting.
that guitar is lovely to play, one of those you wanna play all the time. Got that, getting the Cort A6 Gold tomorrow. From what I’ve seen and heard its tone is even more fantastic!
African Blackwood was the preferred tonewood for a large number of traditional wooden flutes - and then restrictions came in. It was a real shame as I wanted to purchase a basic blackwood flute... but I ended up getting back into guitar - so maybe I'll end up with a blackwood instrument anyway!
My own acoustic guitar also is a Cort, and I'd bought it from a friend 15 years ago when she was about to move from NZ back to her and also Darrell's home country Canadia 😊
I have a Cort Gold A6 Nat. solid Hog/ Torrified Sitka. It’s a beast .. a fantastic playing guitar. Beautifully made. Awesome tones. It has Replaced my old Taylor 114ce which was an ok beater guitar. Blackwood is an acacia species if I recall. My Cort was chimey new too but it settled down nicely after a while.
I wonder if Cort is making the solids for Harley Benton, this looks like an identical build using different wood choices and tuners. The CLD-15MCE SolidWood is mahogany and the Fishman Presys "module" at the top, which trades classy looks for functional options.
I have Cort's Frank Gambale signature acoustic, featuring flamed blackwood back and sides with Adirondack spruce top. It's one of my favorite playing acoustics, feels like an electric almost. Another great value brand for acoustics is Walden. Bang for your buck is through the roof with both brands.
I picked up a basic Walden a year ago - and it's become my go-to guitar for playing in the garden, down the beach... anytime I don't want to dig out a strat or my Crafter Acoustic. I think they're great... but I've not tried a Cort yet....
Like your reviews Darell. I have full mahogany Cort guitar. And after upgrading the tuners, bridge and nut to the bone I sell my much expencive guitar and keep this one. 😄
Cort is one of the most overlooked Acoustic guitar manufacturers imo. Sure much of their stuff comes from aisa but they also build for other medium tier brands! I had a solid spruce top, solid mahagoni back cort for long time, it was the best thing ever and easily beat anything below 1000$. Also with a 42mm fret board it was rather a electric gutiar playability than dreadnought style.
Would love to see you demo Seagull acoustic. Canadian guitar I believe. Own two, I just love their sound, feel and neck size. Best wishes from Ireland.
He will get worn out soon. Use a plastic thumb-pick and metal fingerpicks. It takes some getting used to, but practice and you will get it. It is well worth it. Your finger skins will not be so tired. And, if one ever wants to play a 12-string, fingerpicks are a must! I see many bare fingers trying to play a 12-string. Most often, they only pluck one string of the two string pair.
Interesting tone, kind of a blend of spruce and mahogany (I personally prefer all mahogany, had a Cort in this style, but all mahogany, sold it to get the PRS Parlor size, also all mahogany.)
What a clever name of the wood. Black Wood. That’s it, very simple. Black Wood. Easy to remember, unlike say mahogany. You know, grab some of that black wood. Easy, even better if it’s actually black. Can’t complain about the sound. Black Wood kicks butt.
My PRS parlour looks very similar. It sounded great to me, some may cry about lacking low end, but they probably are listening on their phones. I myself hate overly boomy and bassy tops that just overdrive if you look at it funny. Cort makes world-class instruments.
My Mother has a blackwood Maton that is hands down the best sounding acoustic I have ever laid hands on. The Cort would probably be a bit cheaper I'd say, would be worth checking out if you can't afford a Maton.
I have played some Corts @the music store, LOVE the action and it's consistent from guitar to guitar. I play a Cort Bass and it is a rock hard smoker... I am definitely a Cort fan. If you don't have the greenbacks for a Taylor, these are the best 2nd choice. (my opinion)
Too expensive. A good guitar though. I thought Cort used to be made in Korea, which got too expensive. Cort, I believed moved to Indonesia. I love the Indonesian guitars. The workmanship is good and the prices are less expensive. After being ripped off, I no longer buy expensive instruments. I look for cheaper instruments and get them well set-up.
These are made in Cort's China factory. The Core series guitars are the most affordable all-solid acoustic/electric on the market, by far in most cases.
I'm surprised, what's coming out this low prized full blackwood guitar. For sure, there are missing some noble details of handbuilt guitars such as sweet trebles with fat overtones and a real punchy bass attack. But it sounds considerably better than it costs. Nice presentation, in particular the camera. Especially the details such as open pore finish or nut are filmed with perfect focus and resolution, rarely to be found on this professional level!
Great video nice looking guitar just recently finished building a short scale semi-hollow ricknbacker 325 Style guitar out of black wood with a black wood neck with a natural finished
My first is a cort. Any tips to improve? Im even struggling to get strumming right 😂😂 I bought it used and in very good condition with a case and a stand.
@@GOOSE-1334It's my one and only acoustic and I'm happy with it. The only niggle is that the original tuners were a bit lumpy and not always responsive, and so I change them for some Gotoh tuners and all is good!
You are spot on. I recently bought a Gold A8 and I cannot put it down. Also have a cort Parlor all black wood (Lam back and sides) and it too is fabulous, I think you can push/attack the Australian blackwood harder than others.
This is a nice video on one of the few acoustic guitars I've seen you review, Darrell. It's a beautiful looking guitar and appears to be well made with the exception of the so so tuners. I was eager to hear what a blackwood body guitar sounds like. It just didn't sound good to me. It lacks warmth and sounds tinny to me. What brand and size of strings are on the guitar? I changed over to Martin Extra Light M170 80/20 Bronze (10's) on my vintage Yamaha guitar from the early '70's. What a difference that made with both the ease of playing and the sound. It sounds a bit brighter, but I'm getting warmth too. I really like Martin strings! 👍👍👍
I have bought a Gold series D8 and I absolutely love it. I saw in the specifications that it has a doublelock neck joint. I was wondering how this works. Is the dovetail glued in or not? Is it just screwed in by one screw or more screws?
Watching this and other channels dealing with tone woods on acoustic guitars it sounds like almost any hard, stable wood can be used to make these instruments. Blackwood grows rather thin and twisted, so it looks like it would be rather rare and expensive. Especially in large pieces. I see that you are as proficient on an acoustic as on an electric. You make it sound great.
It certainly depends where the blackwood is sourced. In SE Australian forests, it grows tall and straight and commonly used in furniture manufacturing.
Nice guitar and sounds really great except I can't stand open-pore finishes. Tonight I'm on my way to buy a Taylor 214CE K DLX to replace my regular 214CE, and the main reason is that the satin/matte finish on the spruce top of the regular 214 drives me nuts- any touch with a thumbnail, pick, or anything else hard will put a ding in the top, while the DLX is a gloss finish. Maybe this Cort is different though. I also find that flat finishes look sort of cheap but of course that's my personal preference.
Yes, it's bright. I am partial to dreadnought guitars. I have a epiphone Aj220 s/n from Indonesia. It's full body sounding. Needs better tuning machines because of the play. Im also attracted too Guild guitars too. Have you ever done a episode with Guild?
Had to Google blackwood because it looks similar to Koa and bingo its an acacia species. By your description it has similar tone to koa as well. What do you think of the comparison? Do you have Solid koa guitars to compare wood tones? I'm sure it doesn't compare to my $5000 taylor but if the tone is similar, might be worth picking one up to use outside of the studio etc.
congradulations, very nice. Can I compare this guitar and a Martin, like a Martin 00015 fort example? Martin is much better or are they at the same level?
Hey Darrell, great stuff as always. I was thinking of putting a bone but on my Takamine..already have the bone saddles. Do you think it might get too brite or tinny. Thanks rock on bud.
I owned this one. Sold it. Replaced with a Taylor Koa. And now I wish I had kept it! The Taylor sounds so thin and has no low end. Oh, and it was twice as expensive.
We def need more acoustic guitars on here DB!!
Indeed. Darrell has an acoustic recording on Spotify which showcases his
fingerstyle playing. It's awesome.
Yess indeed we need more..
Trying Blackwood for the first time on an acoustic guitar! First impressions, It has a really balanced and pleasing tone!

That guitar has great tone. I love the sounds it produces when played.
Sounds really good. If it plays as good as it sounds, it’s a keeper.

I was listening to some of your early acoustic songs a while ago and this brought back what an amazing acoustic player you are! Thank you Darrell!
Beautiful looking and sounding guitar.... especially liked the finger picking tones!
Cort has always made some good stuff but this one is truly exceptional.
We Aussies love our Victorian Blackwood guitars. Maton and Cole Clarke usually. Cheers from Oz.
I just bought. myself a Cort Myrtlewood a few weeks ago, im also totally in love with that piece of art!
Love the Liddell dilly you did on the Heavy strum demo. Very Cute
A loose idea of the price point is always helpful and country of origin whilst gushing, rightfully so👍
Cort. The company that built itself on paying its workers in Korea below minimum wage then, when they unionised and demanded minimum wage, got rid of them all in an illegal mass firing and moved to Indonesia. What a company to be promoting.
Excellent playing on a stunning guitar. The Guitar just seems to work in all three phases, playability, tones, and looks.
that guitar is lovely to play, one of those you wanna play all the time. Got that, getting the Cort A6 Gold tomorrow. From what I’ve seen and heard its tone is even more fantastic!
I own a cort ad810 op costs 210 bucks, fantastic instrument and never let me down, cort makes really good instruments, highly recommend
Good all around sound, excels on fingers style. Looked like it has electronics but you didn't mention it. More acoustic guitar videos please!
Good to see an acoustic reviewed on the channel. Never seen a Blackwood guitar before, so pretty unique. Nice.
