- A black man on a city bus saw another man sexually assaulting a fifteen-year-old girl. He fought him off, and was handcuffed for his trouble. Cenk Uygur, Grace Baldridge, and Hasan Piker, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. tytnetwork.com/...
"Twenty-one-year-old rapper and activist Moise Morancy was riding the Q53 bus home when he noticed another passenger forcing sexual advances on a teenage girl. He intervened, confronting the man directly, and prevented the him from doing further harm. But when the NYPD arrived on the scene, Morancy was detained along with the girl’s assailant.
According to Gothamist, Morancy had just wrapped up his mixtape recording when he caught the Q53. It was then that he noticed 36-year-old Pablo Levano issuing unwanted caresses to a female teenage passenger. On his Facebook page, Morancy details the encounter…
Morancy struck Levano in the face, knees, and neck as a means of self-defense. And though he was detained, after answering questions about the incident, a sergeant released him at the scene. Levano, on the other hand, has been charged with forcible touching.
“Shortly after this black police officer who was the sergeant opened the door, congratulated me, and ordered to release the handcuffs,” Morancy explains. “To see a black man in a position of power right the wrongs gave me a little bit of hope for the NYPD.”
Morancy has been subjected to racial profiling before, so he was relieved to-ultimately-be treated fairly at the hands of the police.
“I forget [the sergeant’s] name, but I want to say ‘thank you,’” Morancy toldPIX11. “He said, ‘You’re a hero,’ and shook my hand and said, ‘I was you 20 years ago’...[T]hat touched me.””*

No need for the cuffs. Talk to witnesses, take the mans demeanor into account, analyze the situation and you'll see this guy is not a threat. Also, was he legally under arrest or just placed in handcuffs? An officer can use restraints during an investigation without placing someone under arrest. I personally wouldn't have used cuffs as the guy seemed very cooperative and non-threatening, but we have the benefit of hindsight here, where the responding officers did not. Admittedly: kind of dickish though.

No they were going to take his black ass to jail the cops said he assualted the rapist and assualt is assualt, According to racist piece of shit cops.
The issue was that regardless of his intent it was still assault. He put his hands on the other guy, so they had to charge him with assault as well. However, in court he can claim self-defense. In NYS you CAN make a citizen's arrest and the law says that you are allowed to use physical restraint to stop a serious crime. However, It seems like its more a legal defense for the courtroom than something that can be determined by the police on the street.
Patrol officers do not have the authority to exercise such large discretion and interpret the law themselves. However, a CO can exercise that discretion and the responsibility would be on them.
That's why the Sgt released him later on but the responding officers still had to arrest him.
This was not in any way an abuse by the NYPD. They were doing their job. It's just that regardless of intent they have to go by the letter of the law and discretion and reasoning are issues for the court to determine.
Madam Smellypits That's exactly why they cuffed him, typically people are detained until police sort things out.

@@MrErickstar1 >Commits violence. "Innocent." Okay.
He defend a woman that was being groped?
They also have bus load of passengers saying he saved her.
Wow... He potentially saved that girls life and this is what he gets... "This is America" 🗽🗽🗽in my Childish Gambino voice... sad
Taquae Anderson ikr, I’m scared for my future
Hajrah Ali 💙
They had to detain both sides until they could determine the situation.
That one Crusader That's fine but when everyone is stating the facts he should've been uncuffed asap that's not why he was cuffed I feel they seen him as a threat or the one in the wrong.
Taquae Anderson No you don't understand they HAVE to detain him and bring him back to the police station for questioning. They can't just listen to what everyone says cause what if their lying? Precisely. He isn't gonna get any charges and he'll be let go with nothing against him
Of course another person doing the right thing but still gets arrested.
BeatsBoy he wasn't arrested he was detained until they get to know what's going on
Riceclan581 gaming "retained" but yet still arrested, u see those handcuffs? yeah? now say retained again for me
Ryan Games well what are they gonna do? kindly tell him to sit down? If you where a police officer you would have put them in cuffs too. You don't know what went on, you don't whats happening in that situation, your not just gonna say "hey can you sit down please thanks" calmly, one of them could have had a gun or worse.
TheRandomizerr not really. Of they did he would of killed him already
TheRandomizerr do u even listen XD im saying he was detained/retained which is different from getting physically arrested, u should actually read instead of being the lazy man/woman u are
That is why people afraid to help someone. Sad but truth!!
Why didn't the girl defend him
Raul Rolon she was most likely in shock?
She was scared
Raul Rolon she didn't care about him as long as she was in safe hands.
Who knows, maybe his story is exaggerated? We don't know what happened, also the people calling her a child are retarded. She is just like a skinny 18 year old, she sits at the same height as the person next to her and clearly isn't some 9 year old etc.
The victim parents has already conditioned her to fear people of color, hence the out come.
Reminds me when that one person saved a dog from train tracks and got sued because it was illegal to go there.

If you're in a violent altercation with a criminal, expect the police to detain you temporarily so they can be sure you haven't done anything wrong. That's just the police taking precaution. They let him go straight away and rightly so. This is a non issue.
Louis Clegg but if sumbody with her authority didn't assess the situation he would have been arrested an become a criminal
Louis Clegg they could have done a better job at explaining it to him, think about it, if police make people felt humiliated for doing right thing, next time something happens people won't help.
Louis Clegg hey buddy, don't try bringing logic and reason to this comment section, there's no toleration that that sort of thing here.
Louis Clegg exactly what I thought and I agree that was the action taking place; but, not always a suitable precaution which can be generalize so easily. Such a process is polarize on race, class, and gender. I've come across too many stories and some first hand perspectives of these kind of situations of people stepping in for someone and especially for his and her self. The truth to there perspective of this is how the individual is perceive in this situation based on social norms.
Cassundra Wells no one said he was a criminal, and you need English lessons.

Have faith. Do the right thing. Think how grateful her parents must be to him. He stepped up as I would hope we all would.
Bud that is how we lose. What counts is how you act when no one is looking and when no one has your back. What counts is the fact that you did something correct and right and righteous because you know it is the right thing to do regardless of the consequences. Don't give in. It is exactly what they wan't you to do.
The Braying Ass lol faith in a system that hates my brothers and sisters and gave us the auto threat by law sentence

True, but if we're damned either way the choice should be easy.
He gets arrested for saving a young girl..... REALLY 😑😑😑😑
He was detained
Cops are doing there job, they don't know what's going on so they have to cuff him
Eat me, you won’t, no balls
I saw a man beating a woman as she was trying to run away from him, in her hands she was holding a screaming and crying 4 year old boy. He was punching her in the back of the head, gingerly walking behind her screaming insults and vulgarities at her while she struggled to run from him with a heavy small child in her arms. I got out of my car and told him to hit me, I told him that when he did I wouldn't be running away from him. He ran his mouth for a while but ultimately wouldn't do anything so that I could legally defend myself. A few seconds later he got into a fight with my ex bf and then we all ended up getting arrested. I was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
I pushed for a trial to call the DA's bluff and they dropped the charges. I knew no jury would convict me because he was beating a woman holding a small child, and male or female most people would have loved to have had the courage to do what I did. My ex ended up taking probation, which he had to pay $50 a month for. $50 a month for saving a woman and a child from an abuser.
The fact that I actually have that arrest on my record for the rest of my life in the state of Massachusetts is one of the reasons I moved to a new state.
I am a white female and I was put in a jail cell for over 24 hours and threatened with 2 years of prison for ultimately defending the life of a 4 year old child, as his welfare was my main concern.
I honestly don't know if I would intervene again as fucked up as that sounds, to me because of what was done to me. I don't know that even with this weight of hesitation over my heart that I wouldn't act again, because that is the kind of person I am. I'm just not sure of what I would do if faced with a similar situation.
Sometimes people don't have time to call police during an attack and have to (wo)man up to right a wrong, but an overly punitive criminal justice system in terms of self defense or defense of another person seems insane in these circumstances.
YayJess
I feel for you but you are right... There is an instinct to do the right thing that happens almost without thought. To be honest, if people thought it thru, most people wouldn't do the heroic thing. It is usually just a reaction before rational thought kicks in.. Lol. From now on, you are going to have to think about it before you help anyone... You can't just react and let your instincts kick in any more if anyone else were in trouble and that is complete bullshit...
Dan Thorne yeah your right as much I don't want to admit it....
This is a...
pretty long comment...
Its cool how u saved him and i would recommend u to do it again cause at the end of the day u saved a life no matter the charge and we should all stick together and help each other when ones in need
YayJess if there's a lesson to be learning, it's that we cannot trust the police to be doing the right thing.
we as citizen's need to take matters into our own hands and destroy all obstacles ourselves no matter what the consequences are.
I saved someone's life when he was unconscious and bleeding from his neck from a car crash. Never thanked for it, but I wouldn't do it any different. I was 17. What this man did was heroic in a situation dangerous to himself. That takes a different kind of courage to overcome fear to do the right thing. He should be held in the highest regard.
When we help others expecting gratitude we are are only helping ourselves. I don’t think this guy expected gratitude but he definitely didn’t expect this.
I'm gonna keep this in mind the next time I see a white person in trouble or need.
The racial divide is alive and well, and the jews are laughing at the hateful whites and blacks while they count their money. YAY America 2016. Still the real enemy is concealed.

Jesuferanmi Jebutu How is this victim blaming? Saying she should have spoke up for that man is NOT victim blaming.
bearisol The bitch was 15 and cops were on the bus she could have said something. No excuse
I feel sorry for this hero.
He punched someone in the face......
This hero might not even have been arrested, but detained. Seeing as how the police didn't know about anything that happened.
It's their job to analyze what occurred and file charges/make arrests accordingly. The guy got detained, not arrested. Job well done.
DatGreen if the guy was fondling your daughter, would you mind someone punching him in the face? 🤔
So men get falsely acused of rape but as soon as one of us does something to stop someone from actually getting raped, we get in trouble...
The girl didn’t stand up for her saver? This is one some people might hesitate to step in. Some people just like to be the pathetic victims that want to be protected by others but would never speak up for others.

Yes, but it's only a misdemeanor.
Yep
So basically, if we witness a person doing another person wrong, we aren't allowed to do anything but just watch?
Brendan Ramirez yup!!!
Of course you’re allowed. He wasn’t even arrested he was just cuffed until they figured out what had happened.
Exactly. But....you're also not allowed to NOT do anything, either. So your best bet would be to assist the wrongdoer. Like the saying goes "If you can't beat em, join em"
Apparently, you're not supposed to defend yourself either.
"He was just cuffed" ... I don't understand America honestly. Guilty until proven innocent?
If you don't help someone you're wrong
If you help you are still wrong
Defending the young girl was very selfless. He got cuffed...that sucks. He was involved and sometimes everyone gets cuffed or arrested till the law can sort it out. It sucks but it is what it is. To step in is easy......to accept the consequences like getting arrested or charged for doing the right thing is a whole other level of heroism. Thank you young man for helping that young girl.
Errick Flesch He should habe never helped that bitch. That bitch didnt even stand up and defend the guy who prevented the rape.
EverythingExposed she was practically just a child. She was in a scary and loud situation. Not that easy to step up among yelling adults.
Some people can't defend themselves. What if it was you? or your grandmother? I hope you never need someone to help you.....the way you think is selfish and cold.

Hauke Holst They didn't arrest him....
And european cops will do the same thing.... what are the alternatives?
+Hauke Holst
European cops would do exactly the same. First detain everyone, ask questions, then let him go. The cuffs might have been a little excessive but hey not unreasonable if you look at the other guy.
So them putting handcuffs on the guy, and putting him in a squad car isn't arresting him? Interesting
Hauke Holst To question people you have to isolate those suspected of a crime from those not and often split up groups. If you ask a group of people what happened you're going to get shit for an answer.
What happen to innocent until proven guilty, he did a great thing and still was handcuffed.
Dontaviousdbnobles Brevelle thats not how it works
Dontaviousdbnobles Brevelle handcuffed doesn't mean arrested they just detained him for questioning and later was released and given an award for his heroism
You are the most idiotic person I've ever seen.
In america youre guilty until proven innocent lmaooo i swear the american police needs to chill
According to the police both need to be cuffed to get to the bottom of the situation then when all is out they will uncuff the man line they originally did
that many is my hero, he just stood up for her when he didn't have to
This is the reason why I am afraid to help strangers now. I would get involved in the past but just like this black man, I was criminalized by the cops. Luckily my neighbor (who's a sheriff) came on the scene that day and knows I've never engaged in any criminal activity so he helped free me from those handcuffs. I wasn't even put in the system yet so I'm glad about that. But it's crazy because I was helping an elderly white woman when this 30 something year old Latino guy stole her wallet from her purse. I sprinted to the thief and pinned him down (I'm a 5'6 African American girl and he was 5'3 according to the police) so I was able to tackle him and take the wallet back while male bystanders restrained him till the police came. And I gave the wallet back to the elderly woman. The woman even told the police I helped her but the police didn't wanna listen until someone I knew helped free me. Honestly, I love to help people but as an African American in this country, I think it's best for me to mind my own business from now on. I'm sorry but if your child is getting kidnapped, you better hope a white privileged man is there to save the day... because that white man won't be arrested with question. It's the truth.
Arrested without question ***
G U Ikr crazy
@ G U - I would like to applaud you for helping your elder. 👏👏👏👏
TheMangoGaming :D I see your point. What that stat leaves out is white on white crime. People tend to victimize their own race more than others. You also don't see how many whites are harassed by the cops as often either. Does nothing for railings. If a cop instantaneously feel it is necessary to cuff the blk person based off the stats you gave that's not a justification. It reflects poorly on the individual.
G U you relize you weren't being arrested you were being detained so that the police could get all the facts and evidence they needed you would have been released once they found enough evidence and talked to the bystanders
That guy is a HERO, we need more like these !!!
JRL Gaming this is why nobody in america wants to help people lie and cops ready to arrest anyone for anything because of their quota

Well done for protecting the girl from the sexual assaulter, those cops need to sort their shit out
Yall people knows why he got arrested? Because he is a black man that beat the hell out of that guy for messing with that little young lady.
He was not arrested, he was released at the scene. Putting someone in cuffs is not an arrest, its a temporary detainment.
He was cuffed (temporarily) because they need to defuse and assess the situation. They didn't know that he was protecting someone, they just knew that he was beating someone up. So they cuff him and the other person to keep them both under control while they question people and figure out what happened. Then they released him, because he did nothing wrong.
Gary D. Ford he was detained bimbo, not arrested
According to the police both need to be cuffed to get to the bottom of the situation then when all is out they will uncuff the man line they originally did

DatGreen Unorthodox shootings. Losing somebody you love even after the police admitted they made a mistake, I feel like I'm justified to dislike certain police after them taking away part of my family due to a mistake
For trying to get a semi-accurate reconstruction of events to find out which charges should be pressed/who needs to be arrested, while detaining the suspects until such reconstruction has been achieved? Same. *sarcasm intensifies (again)*
kinglevidevicus VG That's fine, I personally don't think if the person wasn't trying to leave the scene then just watch them, criminalising this person was wrong; say he was trying to run away, then yes arrest them to work things out. It wasn't necessary to put handcuffs on the man

Beat Lab ... it's not like we don't know about the same thing happening to First Nations in Canada, but that's never international news. Bigoted assumptions are too easy to fall into. Cops need training to the point where they can understand and rectify what are typically unthinking and unconscious biases.

@Page001 They don't necessarily enforce the law, its just their job to arrest those who don't abide by them.
Capricorn Llama so other people don’t break em if they didn’t have laws then Everyone would just take everything murders everywhere instead of like a handful of people
Lmao yeah, police definitely made laws😂
Police don’t make laws bud
this is called 'street legislation' just as some judges disagree with the law and make up their own 'interpretation' which all to often is not an interpretation of, but a repudiation of the actual law. I have seen it in court, and can name actual cases and judges. But that is a lot to go into here, and one of the reasons I was chased out of Mendocino County... the nerve of anyone expecting them to uphold the laws they were paid to uphold, it was an absurdity I tell you!
One thing you guys are missing is the fact that no matter how many times we all fight for justice, ignorant individuals will always be around and put a stink in society. As a black man, I focus on how these things operate. I've been teaching for about 15 years and in 2020 I was assaulted by a student. I responded by re moving the student from the classroom safely. I put two fingers on his sweater, not even touching his physical body and safely walked him out of the classroom. The principal fired me. He also wrote a false CPS report. I reported his false report to the police with evidence. They eventually took the report and put it on file, but the police officer was friends with the principal and tried to stop me because he didn't know or understand the penal code I referred to. Many times it doesn't matter if we are in the right. It's how the systems are set up. Many of the school districts and teacher commissions seem to operate like independent states. They don't even know the law. After the incident, I became a non certificated legal expert. LOL. Being Black especially, we have to think on our feet because Black people are Behind Enemy Lines. And everyone else is also subject to the police who are not always competent within their profession. We have to out smart them because identifying their disfunction and incompetence is never enough.
Hey man in Scotland my ex-wife and I were riding a bus and some rowdy drunk skinheads got on and the whole bus of maybe 10 avg folks all collectively acted to mitigate their behaviour like they were their parents verbally scolding them, it was amazing! ...IM GLAD HE DID....
Curtistine Miller yeah, if it was another country he'd of been shot dead on the spot... Instead, here in America, the police did the responsible thing, detained everyone, investigated what happened, then arrested the right person and gave praise to the black guy as they let him continue on his way. Police are not psychic and have no clue what's happening when they show up to an event they did NOT witness.
CamZillah Youre RIGHT!...😍
CamZillah cops are trained to arrest temporarily then interrogate.

The girl didnt even stick up for him.. maybe shes racist also lmao.. man this guy had the worst luck till he met that black cop.
I doubt it. She looked shy and most of time they aren't the type of person to yell she probably told the cops the story after they stopped yelling and being loud he even said that she didn't look comfortable when the drunk dude touched her. I am sure that if it was any other girl that wasn't shy or anything she would have yelled or defend herself or even verbally fight this guy but she was just sitting down looking at the floor when they showed her face.
she gave him a rose to thank him for saving her
something this regressive left media won't tell you
Lucky for him the black cop was really a "BLACK" cop cause most are whiter than the white ones in most instances.
