What I learned from being in LATAM for eight months is that people are happy with the simple things in life, friends, family, enjoying a meal together. These are the important things, not having the latest iPhone or some other material possession. I also learned to go with the flow, not rush around all the time and to slow down and enjoy my food :)

Hi! Great video! I am in Canada and the family next door to me is from Mexico. They have learned English but for the last 6 months or so I have been trying to learn Spanish. I am fascinated by the language, the food and the culture of Mexico because of them. I find I am scared to speak because I can't say exactly what I want to say in my head because my Spanish vocabulary is still quite small. My neighbours are literally the nicest people and I know they wouldn't make fun of me for messing up but I'm still having a hard time just doing it. Watching your videos helps and is very encouraging. Thanks for sharing.
I went to Rosarito over the weekend, and it was such a fun first time experience. I ordered Starbucks in spanish which I never thought I would do ever. You really push me to keep learning and studying as Im in the "struggling and wanting to give up" stage. Thank you Nate! Love your content.
I love Mexico too! My first trip was right after high school to take a summer course in San Luis Potosí. I was hooked! Now I've studied Spanish for over 50 years, and still learn something new every day.
I completely understand what you mean when you say that going to Mexico changed your life. I’ve spent a lot of time in Tijuana Mexico and seeing how thankful, kind, tender hearted everyone was it really changed the way I viewed life. Tijuana in general changed my life, I learned Spanish, experienced new culture, became really close with everyone down there, it seems like a second home now. I’ve learned more and experienced more than the average 18 year old American, and I truly owe it to Mexico.

I've been learning Spanish for close to 7 months with nothing but Duolingo. I had fun at first but lately I feel stuck as I've forgotten a lot already and honestly slowly losing the will to continue. But thanks to this video for giving me the inspiration to give another go with it.

I took 2 years of Spanish in high school, figured I’d NEVER use it and then decided to move to Chile to teach ESL after college. I live back in the states now, but I always love meeting someone Spanish speaking so I can ask “¿Le molesto si practico español con usted?” A person’s perspective on the world can only be helped by learning how strangers live and connect.

Llevo 43 años practicando el español, mi esposo es colombiano, miro televisión en español, hablo español por teléfono en mi trabajo, he pagado clases privadas, entiendo todo, pero en seguida la gente se da cuenta que soy gringa y dicen que es mejor que hablemos en inglés si saben inglés. No sé qué hacer para no sonar tan gringa y hablar tan "choppy".

Hola buenas tardes amiga lo que te puedo conseguir que hagas es que pongas un lápiz en tu boca y trata de hablar palabras o frases en español lo que sucede es que tu lengua no está acostumbrada o más bien los músculos de la lengua no están entrenados para hablar español y de esta manera forzaras tu lengua a los músculos de tu lengua a que se fortalezcan porque en inglés también pasa lo mismo cuando uno quiere hablar uno suena diferente porque los niños con los que usas cotidianamente no están acostumbrados al inglés y hay partes de la boca que no usamos Pero con este pequeño ejercicio comenzarás a sonar más nativa más natural practicando a mi me funcionó para hablar inglés saludos

New sub here! This is an awesome story to post Nate. I love your persistence to learn the language, having friends to help you is key. I took 2 years of Spanish in high school, figured I’d NEVER use it and then decided to move to Chile to teach ESL after college. I live back in the states now, but I always love meeting someone Spanish speaking so I can ask “¿Le molesto si practico español con usted?” A person’s perspective on the world can only be helped by learning how strangers live and connect.

Llevo 43 años practicando el español, mi esposo es colombiano, miro televisión en español, hablo español por teléfono en mi trabajo, he pagado clases privadas, entiendo todo, pero en seguida la gente se da cuenta que soy gringa y dicen que es mejor que hablemos en inglés si saben inglés. No sé qué hacer para no sonar tan gringa y hablar tan "choppy".

Hola buenas tardes amiga lo que te puedo conseguir que hagas es que pongas un lápiz en tu boca y trata de hablar palabras o frases en español lo que sucede es que tu lengua no está acostumbrada o más bien los músculos de la lengua no están entrenados para hablar español y de esta manera forzaras tu lengua a los músculos de tu lengua a que se fortalezcan porque en inglés también pasa lo mismo cuando uno quiere hablar uno suena diferente porque los niños con los que usas cotidianamente no están acostumbrados al inglés y hay partes de la boca que no usamos Pero con este pequeño ejercicio comenzarás a sonar más nativa más natural practicando a mi me funcionó para hablar inglés saludos

I lost my motivation. Estaba en un estado donde podía encontrar trabajo aprendiendo el idioma, me mudé, y ahora estoy en un lugar donde no necesito más de un idioma. Me deprime haberme mudado, y ahora me siento atorada aquí, extraño la ciudad, no tengo ganas de nada, ni siquiera tengo ganas de seguir practicando, solo quiero dormir. Hey Nate, if you see this what helped you the most with formulating sentences and word conjugations. So I when I talk its not "textbook" I guess slang ?? "Mexican dialect/ spanish
Hey! I think practicing with my friends (like Luis) really helped me with that. I recommend using a basic Spanish learning textbook to learn the basics of formulating sentences and verb conjugations. Then master them by speaking and using them constantly! Gracias por ver :)
