When adding thrusters, don't make one big slab. Create paper-thin sheets, as thin as the game will let you, then stack those sheets of thrusters so that what you end up with looks kind of like a radiator or accordion. This is a REALLY good way to generate immense amounts of braking and turning thrust at quite a low cost. Seriously, I have a mid-size mining ship with 180m/s brake thrust (not a typo). It's bloody amazing. This also works on solar panels, letting you get a dirt-cheap but very powerful energy source. Really the only downside is they need to be protected better because each one has microscopic amounts of health and will fall off if an enemy farts in your general direction.
RIGHT NOW the thruster logic is based on surface area, so smaller the volume of the block the more surface area it has (ratio wise). Which is why large blocks are worse than the small ones. However, at some point in the near future (i hope) the dev is fixing it to be based on volume instead, so hopefully it will be proportionally equal.
Lathrix, a bit of info for you. Making parts out of better material only effects their cost, hit points, and weight so a naonite generator is no better at making power than an iron one of the same size. This also means that if you don't plan on staying in a fight to the point that big chucks of your ship are falling off you can just make the armor out of the toughest material you have and the insides out of the lightest material possible (which for you is titanium and will later be trinium) to improve speed and maneuverability. Also a word of warning about a quest you will probably stumble upon later from various beacons called operation exodus. While it is worth while to do you shouldn't do it till you have a farther jump range (at least 7 which you prob could have gotten easily with the naonite you had especially since 24k+ shields are pretty overkill atm) and even then it will take a while to follow it all the way to the end. I did it not too long ago and I had to cross over three of the max zoomed out galaxy squares to complete it. Having better scanners to find the beacons more easily will also help completing it (I had an exceptional quality item scanner and that was a big help). As an aside, you are so lucky you could get your ai ship to follow you through a gate. I tried 4 times with an abandoned ship I claimed and ended up having to just to manual short jumps (due to its limited range).
There is a way to cheese energy production. 1. Stack a bunch of solar panels; 2. Copy&paste the whole stack; 3. Resize the copied stack before placing; 4. Stack multiple stacks and select them all (copy again...). No matter how many layers you end up with, you can always squeeze them together. Ps: this works with thrusters too. After a certain amount of density the whole stack becomes invisible. :D
Agreed mate! I am watching your co-op series and must say I'm loving it. I'm having a hard time starting off in my world, but I build to big for my own good. Any ideas on what's essential just to start?
Geoffrey Polley I learned from Kane that it's more important to start off with a basic shape on wich you bolt on upgrades and later when you are more rich you build a beautiful warship to protect the "starter" or to replace it
When I started with my friend, I was kind of a T shape. After seeing him using a ship that was effectively an umbrella (he basically built a giant, armor shield on the front of his ship, and placed his weapons on it), I decided to also try placing a shield on my ship. It worked extremely well until we got to the Trinium stage, where it went from being great to working just enough to get by. At around mid-way between Trinium and Xanion, I built kind of a giant, computerized cannon shell with a massive (energy) shield and decent firepower on anything that's unfortunate enough to get in front of it. Basically, the best plan is to build pretty defensively at the start. Your achieving late game REQUIRES you survive early game. Basically, I would say that to start, you should build a slightly more defensive craft than you're comfortable with. Think an extra layer of armor there can help? Slap that sucker on there.
I got this game yesterday and it only lags when there is a stupid amount of stuff so good job developers I wouldn't have expected it to run on my laptop.
so far I'm loving this game. your the first person I've found playing this and have started watching your other videos. really enjoying your playthrough style. keep it up, I know I'll be watching!
Lathrix, you got me playing this game and I decided to follow the beacons you occasionally find, (in hidden mass zones using the deep scanner upgrade chips) and I found something that you will really want at this point, no spoilers but you REALLY, REALLY want to find and follow those beacons! Will make a cool episode too! best of luck
Really enjoying this new series as well as your other content. If i may point out though the advanced trading upgrade is OP. When you mount it you get an extra little icon on the top right. When you press it it tells you the hauling (if any) you can do between that sectors traders. When you find the right sector you can go from 100k to 100m in no time.
I'm enjoying your series so far. I would suggest though, that you do a time-lapse on your building of your ships though, instead of just skipping it, because that's one of the more interesting aspects to this game for a lot of people.
I think the force gun is a gun that shoots force. Yes it's literal but that's how it works: shooting it creates force away, like throwing something in space. Its minor brakes/thrusters in gun form. if I'm right
LAthrix, fighters are interesting to say the least. If you are going to use them for combat then you will need a lot of them as they are little ships that are easily shot down (for fighting, the fighters are EXPENSIVE). It is better to use the fighters as mining and salvaging vessels. A fair bit of warning, if you jump with your fighters outside of the hanger, you might as well as consider them destroyed because you can not retrieve them once you leave the sector. If I was you, considering how "Smart" the AI is, I would dismantle the Sunfish and replace it with salvaging and mining fighters. I have herd numerous stories where AI ships rammed themselves to death in this game.
A naonite hyperspace drive will expand your jump range. Although it'll probably be something you'll want to invest in once you can produce more energy.
You should probably put some thin, but wide, armored plates at the top and bottom of your craft to protect your shields and generator from shield piercing weapons.
@lathrix. click on the icon next to the puzzle piece icon that shows up when you have the trading system in your systems slot. it'll make a lot more sense then.
From Naonite onwards, you get access to the Hyperspace Core block; this increases your jump range (but is pretty expensive). With regards to fighters, I recommend against combat fighters, they seem to die pretty quickly. I haven't tried out mining or salvaging fighters yet, but I imagine they would be much more useful.
You should have another ship with as many mining lasers and thrusters as possible - basically a ship that mines anything quickly and can run away very quickly (to any threat) EDIT: Oh he mentions that same idea at 15:05 Well I support that idea
Lath, you always seem to empty my wallet by showing me a new game! Curses! JK, you're an amazing RUclipsr and watching you is better than actually playing the game for me!
Have one ship following you that is just a Dedicated Salvaging-Fighter-Carrier, just for the sake of the idea of having a swarm of little robots following you taking apart the corpses of the people you killed.
it would be cool if you had cannons and broad side chain gun turrets, and the chain gun turrets would fire when you got close to the enemy but you fired the cannons manually.
I kinda want the "blueprint" of the brute. Looks like a good ship, Not over the top end game ship but something achievable in a couple of hours. And well built IMO. Care to post it on dropbox or drive?
Man... In my game, I ended up with a legendary and rare generator upgrades, I ended up with immense power generation (7.5GW on a 1k health ship)Also, I feel that integrity generators are underrated by everyoneA question for lath.. What distance to the core did you start getting Naonite?
btw lathrix i think the price of gates might be lower if the fation licks you and eventualy free i maxt rep with starting faction and thes one jump gat thats 4 sectors long went from 47 to 45 then 0

thats getting patched to were volume is more effective then surface area for all movement blocks
Argonwolfproject yeah but I think thats a glitch.
If you watch him coloring his ship you can see that the thruster is actually made of small sheets
RIGHT NOW the thruster logic is based on surface area, so smaller the volume of the block the more surface area it has (ratio wise). Which is why large blocks are worse than the small ones. However, at some point in the near future (i hope) the dev is fixing it to be based on volume instead, so hopefully it will be proportionally equal.
>enemy farts in your general direction
hilarious
Jesus you have a frigate sized ship with the shield of a battleship xD
Battlefrig
BATTLE FRIDGE!
oh god the youtube compression hates the shield effect xD
lol
Im so used to "Greetings, sirs and sirettes, and welcome back to from the depths" its hard to switch to Avorion.
Tbh, yeah

What......
Iron Generators??????.?.......
@@user-zm3wq9eq8q -- Generators of the Iron tier, or energy generators made of Iron, rather than Titanium or another material.

14:45 While that does make sense, what's actually happening here is that the laser isn't visible through the mirror thing.
This is literally the only thing i look forward to watching on a day to day basis
Maybe add the cannons to the space in between the two hull sections?
so far I'm loving this game. your the first person I've found playing this and have started watching your other videos. really enjoying your playthrough style. keep it up, I know I'll be watching!
Drue Kreft Kane hart has also very fun lets plays ;)
I find the shorter videos much better, and much more fun to watch than the previous 40 minute ones. Keep these going!
Love that the automatic subtitles for the beginning say "great things and threats and welcomes"
FINALLY I WAS SO BORED
After watching video: I feel so refreshed :)
i love this series
Lath, you have no idea how happy it made me when you mentioned the Borg!! I am a huge fan of Star Trek
Lathrix, you got me playing this game and I decided to follow the beacons you occasionally find, (in hidden mass zones using the deep scanner upgrade chips) and I found something that you will really want at this point, no spoilers but you REALLY, REALLY want to find and follow those beacons! I have no idea what ship that is in the thumbnail, but all I know is that I am really excited for this.
Aww when he says "Well I'm afraid..." and you realize the episode is over
i know right
I saw this exact comment on the previous episode 0.o
i like this. its a good replacement supplement to the lack of ""From the Depth" series.
I just imagine that thing being a borg ship for some reason, must be all the green and grey.
Love the Brute , the color scheme is cool too. I'm glad you started playing this.
On a scale of 1 to 10 what is your favorite letter in the rainbow?
Mine is Hedgehog
My is a Friendship Potato (Does anyone remember with Lathrix used to say that?)
"Ass spike" for they are the future evolution of this species!
Lord Kunal Only i can use a scale of 1 to 10!
Mine is stupid copy-pasted comments.
Mine is wierd buttstuff
You could call this one "Star bunker", because you know, its like a bunker.... in spaaaaaceee
Lathrix plz make a borg cube
Kiwi_Q. YES. I want him to do that. so bad. or a blocky. Galexy class enterprise
Rocket Legion yes 😄👍🏻
Kiwi_Q Yeah but it would require A LOT of rescources. Like im saying billions of credits and hundreds of thousands of rescource.
It would be cool if he made a small one to start with and could put to blue print in the shipyard to just adjust the size
Aidan Dixon the borg cube could be his series goal and he builds on to it every episode
I'm enjoying your series so far. I would suggest though, that you do a time-lapse on your building of your ships though, instead of just skipping it, because that's one of the more interesting aspects to this game for a lot of people.
MOAR Avorion. The Legion demands it!
I think the force gun is a gun that shoots force. Yes it's literal but that's how it works: shooting it creates force away, like throwing something in space. Its minor brakes/thrusters in gun form. if I'm right
yes the next part is here
Just what i needed, love the beginning of the new ship, you should slowly add parts to it making it bigger and badder =D
I really like the Brutes design. Can't wait to see drones.
oh my god lathrix built an overpowered battleship. that's so surprising lol
Lol just finished the other video, part 4! xD amazing timing lathland!
this series is amazing, when i fix my computer i'm definetly buying this game
This game reminds me of his early reassembly videos. Reassembly is a game for those who don't know.
LAthrix, fighters are interesting to say the least.

really enjoying this series. was upset when you never uploaded yesterday.
you should make a gallion ship! it could be made out of iron to give it a similar look to wood, but have a bunch of cannons for broadsiding!
dont worry about the colours- you get alot more as you go along. You get them for destroying enemies.
Such a good series. Keep them coming.
A naonite hyperspace drive will expand your jump range. Although it'll probably be something you'll want to invest in once you can produce more energy.
This is my favorite series!
Nice ship Lathrix, bit like a cold chisel. Btw maybe a glow block is better for lighting the surfaces, and that one is colour able.
You should probably put some thin, but wide, armored plates at the top and bottom of your craft to protect your shields and generator from shield piercing weapons.
So I bought this because you made it look so fun. My one and only complaint is the build mode, you make it look so easy, and it's so not that easy.
@lathrix. click on the icon next to the puzzle piece icon that shows up when you have the trading system in your systems slot. it'll make a lot more sense then.

Funnily enough, that's exactly what I say I will be doing in the next video, in regards to fighters! :)
You are probabally my favorite youtuber :D
Love it lath Keep it up!
To think this is the birth of your end game ship
always a sad moment when the video ends.
If you point mouse on your bar in building mode and scrool down you can choose which material you want to use to build :)
Lathrix the anointed has hyper space upgrades in the build menu
Love the series Lathrix!
been waiting all day =D
You should have another ship with as many mining lasers and thrusters as possible - basically a ship that mines anything quickly and can run away very quickly (to any threat)
EDIT: Oh he mentions that same idea at 15:05
Well I support that idea
please keep the cannons, they are more fun to watch. Btw keep the good work lath
Lathrix, what is your upload schedule? Because I want to try and watch ur vids as soon as I can!
Lath, you can increase your maximum jump distance with the hyperspace core (naonite and up)
this ship reminded me of the T.E.C corvette from sins of a solar empire
Look at ships from Galaxy on Fire 2. It's always inspired me for building space ships
Larsen Gallian it's a good game
Lath, you always seem to empty my wallet by showing me a new game!
Curses!
JK, you're an amazing RUclipsr and watching you is better than actually playing the game for me!
9:35 skips you past construction, etc.
Have one ship following you that is just a Dedicated Salvaging-Fighter-Carrier, just for the sake of the idea of having a swarm of little robots following you taking apart the corpses of the people you killed.
Lathrix, you should have bought that gree cannon in the beggining, it did 100+ damage!!
it would be cool if you had cannons and broad side chain gun turrets, and the chain gun turrets would fire when you got close to the enemy but you fired the cannons manually.
When you think you can build as good as Lathland/Lathrix but then you realize you have a space block as a miner.
you know you can check out what you picked up by mousing over it while holding the left shift (cursor unlock)
Lathrix - have you seen Aavaks Ferret Ship
I reccomend using the naonite you gathered and make yourself a decent generator from it to make up for the power you lost
got this game from watching you play, am a Homeworld fan so gona draw inspiration from there in ship design =D
I love this game! :D
i love this series so much!!!
Lathrix did you know that you can establish a mine on an asteroid after you claim it by getting close to one and hitting F
I kinda want the "blueprint" of the brute. Looks like a good ship, Not over the top end game ship but something achievable in a couple of hours. And well built IMO. Care to post it on dropbox or drive?
You need to set mining lasers to 1 a weapons to 2 otherwise it counts both weapons an mining turrets as a single category.
This thing reminds me of the Charnel from his...3rd? From the depths campaign.
Is it only me or is this very lightninghood inspired
I subbed to this series. Keep it up!
I ONLY WORK IN BLACK. AND SOMETIMES VERY, VERY DARK GRAY
Nice work Lathrix! keep it up :)
This series does seem to lower your production rate on videos... But it is sooo dang interesting.
Man... In my game, I ended up with a legendary and rare generator upgrades, I ended up with immense power generation (7.5GW on a 1k health ship)Also, I feel that integrity generators are underrated by everyoneA question for lath.. What distance to the core did you start getting Naonite?
I love this series more
I really want to see more of this!
plz Upload more eps I love your Avorion Vids
Hey, can you talk about build strategies and explore a bit more. I just want to see some information out of these
3 of your videos in a row have had names like Combat Chaos (CC) Naonite Nonsense (NN) Brutish Battleship (BB) was all that intentional?
at 2:58 it looks like the front of a y wing from starwars
I love your idea about the miner hoard but don't you need a lot of credits for that?
That ship looks very necronoid
btw lathrix i think the price of gates might be lower if the fation licks you and eventualy free i maxt rep with starting faction and thes one jump gat thats 4 sectors long went from 47 to 45 then 0
don't do the swarm tactic lath because you will have to pay for each of them through each warp gate
hey lathrix, if you get rockets would you make a new ship or just add them to one you've already made ; )
You can buy mining fighters when got some trinium they do exactly what you said
''Pocket Battleship'' is what I think you are looking for
i have name suggestion for the new flagship! due to its current unstoppable capabilities in this area, call it the juggernaut!
I love Lathland//Lathrex
lath add alot of small or some medium energy generators
