@@Wizardofgosz yeah. I got they were Api style..had no luck communicating with capi, hence the seeking word on the street. Lol. I've built two full.racks of seventh circle audio, and am hunting a 500 rack full of capi and hairball pres now. :)

I built a JLM Audio LA500 comp a few months ago and have been loving it. Essentially an LA3A but with a slow attack option to get you in LA2A territory. They sell them fully assembled as well.
A pair of AML ez1073-500 (NEVE pre and eq) are great and really affordable! I changed the knobs on those for more authentic looking Neve knobs, looks great!
So satisfying to watch back a tedious process in time-lapse. I'm inspired to finish my cascode boards for the Hafler resurrection project. Thanks homie
Just wanna say your channel is absolutely fantastic I love everything you post and it's very inspiring for a 17 year old audio engineer looking to get into the field:)! Godbless you and your family!
three pieces I can recommend are rupert neve designs 511 pres, elysia xpressor500 and elysia xfilter 500, all of them superb, I'd like to get a pair of chandler/EMI TG2 500 pres as well, but I currently only have space for 6 units.
I'm in the process of building a dozen SSL 9000 preamp modules, and 12 VCA compressor modules. I have one of Jeff's racks but will need to build another right quick.
@@chrisdover8507 Oh, right. You get a circuit board and have to put your own parts list together. They're more complicated than most kits because you have to source your own parts, but it is a fun build, just a more advanced build. www.pcbgrinder.com/produktside/9k5-500-series-preamp
I love to see this man - absolutely awesome how you soldered that. I just bought my very first pre amp (tonebeast black) and power conditioner and two mogami cables and I plan to build my own studio rack out of wood. Can't wait to improve my sound on some quality outboard gear!
Retro doublewide ii, and retro 500 pre. Also the spectra 1964 stx 100 mic pre's that's what I got so they're my favorites haha! Cool video think I'm gonna build one now.
What are your thoughts on Elysia? Their Karacter module (2 slots) is the best saturator I've ever heard. Then they have the skulptor and mpressor, single slot. Then other than that it's mainly mastering or stereo bus stuff. I must confess I filled a rack with it all (nearly), last two slots will be Capi. Something for adding sparkle to vox and lead guitars and a preamp. My rack consists of; Skulptor - TDX transient designer - (Elysia) Xfliter - Xpressor - Karacter I use my chain in some cases for sculpting a single drum, but mostly as a bus chain. I recognise I need another less clinical sounding preamp and a simple 3 band EQ, pultec style even. 8 slots 2 ready and waiting for some Capi, based more or less entirely on your obsession and the sound of your mixes. peace
The Midas L6 and L10 are incredible cheap here in Germany. The L10 is 222€, approx. $250. Even less, than the Capi. Just fyi. I Love DIY videos by the way. Thanks.
@@ColtCapperrune No. You definitely want to put some blanks in there since not all modules are fully shielded, and the blank front panels provide shielding.
I definitely get a taste of your taste on mixes in this vid. Out on a limb here, but the hollow drop back then 3rds & 5ths predominant around 7:13 was nice.... I'm re-introducing myself to intervals, am I close? Whatever it is it sounds great!! Thanks for another great vid, Colt!!
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately I don’t compose any of the music in my videos as there simply isn’t time. I barely have enough time to make the videos themselves LOL. All the music comes from a sound library called epidemic sounds.
Understanding next to nothing about electronics I find these to be the musician equivalent of Legos. I got fed up with basic guitar electronics pretty quick but that was down to a low wattage soldering iron. Maybe I'll dabble in electronics in the future by picking up a few pedal kits and an amp project while I'm at it. But for now I just marvel.
Question for you, what power supply did you pick to power your new 500 rack? I am thinking about building on of these and I didn’t see anything about the power supply in your video. Did you just get their standard one, or something else?
Colt...I just purchased a WesAudio Dione stereo bus compressor (SSL comp). It's a great piece, sounds awesome is digitally controlled analog. You can also download and install the software that makes it possible to monitor, control, and save the settings via USB! WesAudio also makes several other pieces that a great! Check em out...!!!
Curious about some IGS stuff, and the cheaper of the trident eq offerings. There's a four band that runs something like 400 doll hairs, but that's just my curiosity. If I were in your seat, I'd probably continue filling it with CAPI because you like them, and I (unfoundedly) think there's something to the idea of building a cohesive rig. Not even informed enough to call it an opinion, but more of a thought centered around everything sharing the same power supply, and having the same final destination. Likely doesn't matter enough to bare consequence. Nice work assembling!
I have both actually. The small switching power supply works great as long as you have the rack with the filtered backplane. If you go without the filter in the rack then get the big power supply
@@ColtCapperrune Thanks for the light speed answer ! ;) i'm in France, i will then need to check if the filtered version of the rack is available in the EU. Cheers !
LC 25 for bass...LC 40 for? And what about those BT50’s? I’m very curious about CAPI EQ’s. I’m doing some research, can anyone help me out here?
